  • Evaluating imaging quality of optical dome affected by aero-optical transmission Effect and aero-thermal Radiation Effect.
    Optics express, 2020
Co-Authors: Wang Hui, Shouqian Chen, Wang Zhang, Fanyang Dang, Zhigang Fan
    Abstract:

The imaging quality of the aerodynamically heated optical dome was evaluated under the comprehensive influence of aero-optical transmission Effect and aero-thermal Radiation Effect. The ray propagating algorithm based on the fourth order Runge-Kutta method was used to trace the target ray and the thermal Radiation ray of the optical dome. Three imaging quality evaluation parameters were proposed to evaluate aero-optical Effect: Modulation transfer function (MTF), irradiance, peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) of distorted images. The results show that: as the flight speed increased, the MTF decreased observably compared with the diffraction-limit MTF, the irradiance on the photosensitive surface of the detector increased gradually, and the distorted imaging quality under the influence of the comprehensive aero-optical Effect gradually deteriorated. However, as the thickness of the optical dome increased, the MTF decreased sharply and the irradiance decreased gradually, that indicated the aero-optical transmission Effect was reinforced and the aero-thermal Radiation Effect was weakened. The imaging quality improved with thickness increasing. The influence of aero-thermal Radiation Effect on the PSNR of the image was more serious than that of the aero-optical transmission Effect.

  • Bevacizumab for the Treatment of Post-Stereotactic Radiosurgery Adverse Radiation Effect
    Surgical Neurology International, 2016
    Co-Authors: Andrew A. Fanous, Andrew J. Fabiano
    Abstract:

Background: Adverse Radiation Effect (ARE) is one of the complications of stereotactic radiosurgery. Its treatment with conventional medications, such as corticosteroids, vitamin E, and pentoxifylline carries a high risk of failure, with up to 20% of lesions refractory to such medications. In addition, deep lesions and those occurring in patients with significant medical comorbidities may not be suitable for surgical resection. Bevacizumab is an antiangiogenic monoclonal antibody against vascular endothelial growth factor, a known mediator of cerebral edema. It can be used to successfully treat ARE.

  • The Use of Treatment Response Assessment Maps in Discriminating Between Radiation Effect and Persistent Tumoral Lesion in Metastatic Brain Tumors Treated with Gamma Knife Radiosurgery.
    World neurosurgery, 2020
Co-Authors: Selçuk Peker, Yavuz Samanci, Murat Serhat Aygün, Furkan Yavuz, Mert Emre Erden, Aziz Emre Nokay, Ali İhsan Atasoy, Yasemin Bolukbasi
    Abstract:

Background Traditional imaging modalities are not useful in the follow-up of irradiated metastatic brain tumors, because Radiation can change imaging characteristics. We aimed to assess the ability of treatment response assessment maps (TRAMs) calculated from delayed-contrast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in differentiation between Radiation Effect and persistent tumoral tissue. Methods TRAMs were calculated by subtracting three-dimensional T1 MRIs acquired 5 minutes after contrast injection from the images acquired 60–105 minutes later. Red areas were regarded as Radiation Effect and blue areas as persistent tumoral lesion. Thirty-seven patients with 130 metastatic brain tumors who were treated with Gamma Knife radiosurgery and who underwent TRAMs perfusion-weighted MRI were enrolled in this retrospective study. Results The median age was 58 years and the most common primary diagnosis was lung cancer (n = 21). The median follow-up period of patients was 12 months. The overall local control rate was 100% at 1 year and 98.9% at 2 years. The median progression-free survival was 12 months. The mean overall survival was 27.3 months. The radiologic and clinical follow-up showed a clinicoradiologic diagnosis of a persistent tumoral lesion in 3 tumors (2.3%) and Radiation Effect in 127 tumors (97.7%). There was a fair agreement between clinicoradiologic diagnosis and TRAMs analysis (κ = 0.380). The sensitivity and positive predictive value of TRAMs in diagnosing Radiation Effect were 96.06% and 99.2%, respectively. TRAMs showed comparable results to perfusion-weighted MRI, with a diagnostic odds ratio of 27.4 versus 20.7, respectively. Conclusions The presented results show the ability of TRAMs in differentiating Radiation Effect and persistent tumoral lesions.

  • Evaluation method for aero-thermo-Radiation Effect of IR window
    Infrared and Laser Engineering, 2016
Co-Authors: Wang Yahui, Wang Qiang, Zhang Bochuan, Zheng Wenjuan, Liu Yan
    Abstract:

The windows of IR detection systems becomes the main factor of the aero-thermo-Radiation Effect, which reduces the performance of these IR systems, or even makes these systems fail. By analyzing thermal Radiation propagating in IR windows, a participating medium, an evaluation method for aero-thermo-Radiation Effect of the non-isothermal IR windows was proposed, based on the experimental results of the isothermal state, include self-Radiation and transmittance. Aim to an MWIR detection system of a hypersonic vehicle, aero-thermo-Radiation Effect of a sapphire IR window was evaluated in 3.7-4.8m. The results indicate that, as the sapphire IR window is exposed in high-temperature and high-speed airflow, the aero-thermo-Radiation Effect of the window intensifies as temperature rises rapidly, the transmittance drops about 10%, still bigger than 0.9, otherwise the self-Radiation enhances 458 times approximately, equal to that of blackbody about 125℃. For sapphire windows in 100-350℃, which thickness are smaller than 20 mm, as thickness increases, the transmittance decreases, self-Radiation increases, and total Radiation behind sapphire windows is increased, of which the ratio of self-Radiation increases. So, self-Radiation would drive detector into saturation easily, of which the influence on the MWIR detection system is bigger than that of transmittance.

  • Research of Pulse Gamma Ray Radiation Effect on Microcontroller System
Nuclear Instruments & Methods in Physics Research Section B-beam Interactions With Materials and Atoms, 2012
    Co-Authors: Liu Yan
    Abstract:

An experimental result of power chip LM7805 and microcontroller EE80C196KC20 based on the EE80C196KC20 testing system was presented. The pulse gamma ray Radiation Effect was investigated using "Qiangguang-Ⅰ" accelerator.Latchup threshold of the microcontroller was obtained, and the relationship of supply current and I/O output with the transient dose rate was observed. The result shows that the restrainability of power chip on pulse gamma ray Radiation induces microcontroller latchup Effect.
