  • modelling the hurried bug report Reading Process to summarize bug reports
    Empirical Software Engineering, 2015
Co-Authors: Rafael Lotufo, Zeeshan Malik, Krzysztof Czarnecki
    Abstract:

Although bug reports are frequently consulted project assets, they are communication logs, by-products of bug resolution, and not artifacts created with the intent of being easy to follow. To facilitate bug report digestion, we propose a new, unsupervised, bug report summarization approach that estimates the attention a user would hypothetically give to different sentences in a bug report, when pressed with time. We pose three hypotheses on what makes a sentence relevant: discussing frequently discussed topics, being evaluated or assessed by other sentences, and keeping focused on the bug report's title and description. Our results suggest that our hypotheses are valid, since the summaries have as much as 12 % improvement in standard summarization evaluation metrics compared to the previous approach. Our evaluation also asks developers to assess the quality and usefulness of the summaries created for bug reports they have worked on. Feedback from developers not only shows the summaries are useful, but also points out important requirements for this, and any bug summarization approach, and indicates directions for future work.

  • optimal framed aloha based anti collision algorithms for rfid systems
    IEEE Transactions on Communications, 2010
Co-Authors: Lei Zhu, Takshing Peter Yum
    Abstract:

The anti-collision algorithm is an important part of the Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) system. Of the various possible algorithms, the Framed Aloha based (FA) algorithms have been most widely used due to their simplicity and robustness. Previous studies have focused mainly on the tag population estimation, choosing the frame size based on the classical results of Random Access (RA) systems. We show that a new theory is needed for algorithm design for RFID systems, because RFID and RA systems are fundamentally different. The Philips RFID system is studied in this paper. We model the Reading Process as a Markov Chain and derive the optimal Reading strategy by first-passage-time analysis. The optimal frame sizes are derived analytically and numerically.

  • the optimal Reading strategy for epc gen 2 rfid anti collision systems
    IEEE Transactions on Communications, 2010
Co-Authors: Lei Zhu, Takshing Peter Yum
    Abstract:

The anti-collision mechanism is an important part in Radio-frequency Identification (RFID) technology. Recently, many anti-collision algorithms were designed based on the EPCglobal standards. These works mainly focused on the tag population estimation. But they chose frame size based on the classical results of Random Access (RA) systems. We show that a new theory is needed for the optimization of the RFID systems as they have characteristics very different from the RA systems. We model the Reading Process as a Markov Chain and derive the optimal Reading strategy through first-passage-time analysis. We show that the optimal strategy can be easily incorporated into the EPCglobal standards to give significant performance improvement.

  • the Process of stress assignment in Reading aloud critical issues from studies on italian
    Scientific Studies of Reading, 2015
Co-Authors: Simone Sulpizio, Cristina Burani, Lucia Colombo
    Abstract:

In polysyllabic languages the assignment of stress is crucial for understanding the Reading Process. Here we review empirical evidence, drawn mainly from studies on Italian, and discuss critical issues in understanding Reading. We first discuss the lexical and sublexical mechanisms responsible for stress assignment and propose that the former is based on item-specific knowledge and the latter on the statistical-distributional knowledge that readers have acquired about their language. Then we examine the idea that stress and phonemes pertain to two dimensions of the word, which can be placed at two different representational levels. Finally, we analyze the effects of stress assignment on word articulation, a promising field for future investigation. These issues are addressed by reviewing the studies conducted in adult and young readers to outline the developmental trajectory of stress assignment and discuss how it operates in the Reading system.

  • dynamics of the Reading Process of a quantum memory
    arXiv: Quantum Physics, 2013
    Co-Authors: Milrian S Mendes, Pablo L Saldanha, J W R Tabosa, D Felinto
    Abstract:

The mechanism of extraction of information stored in a quantum memory is studied here in detail. We consider memories containing a single excitation of a collective atomic state, which is mapped into a single photon during the Reading Process. A theory is developed for the wavepacket of the extracted photon, leading to a simple analytical expression depending on the key parameters of the problem, like detuning and intensity of the read field and the number of atoms in the atomic ensemble. This theory is then compared to a large set of experimental situations and a satisfactory quantitative agreement is obtained. In this way, we are able to systematically study the saturation and spectrum of the Reading Process, as well as clarify the role of superradiance in the system.
