A 54-year-old woman, diagnosed as MDS the prior year after evaluation of anemia, visited our hospital with the chief complaint of epigastric discomfort. She also had dysgeusia, alopecia, atrophic nail change, and pigmentation of the palm, all of which began several months ago. Blood tests revealed severe hypoalbuminemia. Colonoscopy (CS) showed numerous, dense, red polyps throughout the colon and Rectum. Biopsy specimens showed stromal edema, infiltration of lymphocytes, and cystic dilatation of the crypt. Her clinical manifestations and histology were consistent with CCS. We prescribed corticosteroids, which dramatically improved her physical findings, laboratory data, and endoscopic findings. This is the first report of CCS in a patient with MDS.

Therefore, nested or semi-nested 16S rDNA PCR amplification has been the method of choice. In this study, we evaluate the potential use of whole genome amplification of total DNA isolated from human colon and Rectum Biopsy specimens, followed by 16S rDNA PCR amplification of multiple displacement amplified (MDA)-DNA. Subsequently, a H. pylori-specific 16S rDNA variable V3 region PCR assay was applied directly on MDA-DNA and, combined with pyrosequencing analysis; the presence of H. pylori in some biopsies from colon in patients with microscopic colitis was confirmed. Furthermore, temporal temperature gradient gel electrophoresis (TTGE) of 16S rDNA amplicons using primers flanking variable regions V3, V4, and V9, was used to establish bacterial profiles from individual biopsies. A variation of the bacterial profiles in the colonic mucosa in microscopic colitis and in normal rectal mucosa was observed. In conclusion we find the MDA technique to be a useful method to overcome the problem of insufficient bacterial DNA in human Biopsy specimens.

A 76-year-old Japanese woman was admitted to the Harima Hospital of Ishikawajima-harima Heavy Industries, Health Insurance Society for hematochezia. Colonoscopy showed two large elevated tumors, one in the cecum and the other in the Rectum. Biopsy was not diagnostic. Endoscopic snare loop Biopsy specimens from both tumors were diagnosed as MALT lymphoma. After staging to IIE, the patient underwent surgery. Macroscopically, the cecal tumor was elevated with a large and deep depressed region, measuring 40 × 35 mm. The rectal lesion was a large elevated tumor, measuring 80 × 70 mm. Histologically, both tumors were diagnosed as MALT lymphoma and there was no lymph node metastasis. The patient received chemotherapy and there is no evidence of recurrence 1 year after surgery. We present this case to show that colorectal MALT lymphoma can present as a large tumor, even in early clinical stages, that multiple lesions should be anticipated and that surgical treatment is needed in these cases.
