    Abstract:

    The purpose of this study is to investigate the present state of worker's recognition and attitude about hazard materials and occupational disease in his workplace. In general worker's view of hazard materials and occupational disease that sis recognition and attitude is Related to worker's health behavior for preventing occupational disease and improving his health status. The study subject is composed of workers in the asbestos Related Industry for example brake lining manufacturing Industry, asbestos fiber manufacturing Industry, and asbestos slate manufacturing Industry. The result of the study are follows : 1. The most of workers in the asbestos Related Industry have taken health education and safety education, and the more than half of workers recognized the usefulness of preventive device, and ventilatory device in workplace. 2. About 70% of workers have always taken the preventive device. 3. About 80% of workers have recognized occupational disease in the asbestos Related Industry, and about 64% of workers have recognized that hls workplace have harmful effect on his health. 4. Recognition about the usefulness of ventilatory device in work place has not Related with any variables. But recognition about the usefulness of repiratory protector has Related with recognition of hazard materials in his workplace, for example asbestos. 5. Attitude about severity and susceptability of occupational disease in the asbestos Related Industry have Related with knowledge about hazard materials and occupational disease.

  • Incentive Contracting When Boards Have Related Industry Expertise

    Abstract:

    We posit that presence of informed directors, by enhancing the board's information and ability to advise and monitor management, will affect the nature of incentive contracts offered to CEOs. In particular, we study the effect of directors from Related industries (DRIs) i.e., downstream or upstream industries: our premise is that DRIs contribute information about product-market prospects. Using a simple optimal-contracting model to develop testable predictions, we hypothesize that DRIs reduce a firm's reliance on stock-based incentives. Our empirical evidence is strongly supportive: CEO pay and replacements are less sensitive to stock performance, particularly when Industry-Related information is crucial and when stock price is less informative.

  • To Delegate or Not to Delegate to Stock Markets? The Case of Boards with Related Industry Expertise

    Abstract:

    I examine the extent to which boards with expertise in the firm’s Related industries, i.e., downstream (customer) or upstream (supplier) industries, delegate their monitoring and advisory functions to stock markets. Directors from Related industries (DRIs) are argued to acquire information about product markets more readily. This, in turn, is predicted to alleviate the need for stock-based incentives particularly for firms with greater dependence on product markets and those with less informative stock prices. The evidence documented in this paper is largely consistent with these predictions. A number of additional tests suggest that this evidence is not likely to be explained by the potential conflict of interests between the firm’s stockholders and DRIs. Hence, I conclude that boards with Related Industry expertise delegate to stock markets to an optimally lesser extent due to their informational advantages.

    The recent progress of Business Process Management (BPM) is reflected by the figures of the Related Industry. Wintergreen Research estimates that the international market for BPM-Related software and services accounted for more than USD $1 billion in 2005 with a tendency towards rapid growth in the subsequent couple of years [457]. The relevance of business process modeling to general management initiatives has been previously studied in the 1990s [28]. Today, Gartner finds that organizations that had the best results in implementing business process management spent more than 40 percent of the total project time on discovery and construction of their initial process model [265]. As a consequence, Gartner considers Business Process Modeling to be among the Top 10 Strategic Technologies for 2008.

    Abstract:

    Coal mining and Related industries each leave their characteristic "metal fingerprint" in the surrounding soils. Although geochemical investigations of such soils most often indicate heavy contamination with certain metals and bioassays point to their cytotoxic and genotoxic effects, the majority of studies are based on only one of the mentioned approaches. Here, the presented study investigated the effect of coal mining activities and Related Industry on surrounding soils by means of both geochemical and biological tools. The multielement composition of soils and associated eluates were used for the assessment of soil contamination level and the element bioavailable fractions, respectively. For cytotoxicity and genotoxicity evaluation, shallot (Allium ascalonicum L.) roots were exposed to selected soil eluates. Root growth, frequency of mitosis, mitotic and chromosomal abnormalities in root meristem cells, level of lipid peroxidation, and DNA damage evaluated by a comet assay were scored as toxicity endpoints. The results point to significant differences in the composition of collected soils and a variety of factors that contribute not only to their total metal load but also to the observed cytotoxic and genotoxic effects; all of which emphasize the necessity of a multidisciplinary approach in assessing the impact of anthropogenic activities on the environment, especially in historical mining areas.
