The choice of individuals on mobility tools however may depend on the magnitude of a comparable cost. Home Renewable Energy Equipment like solar panel which generates Energy at home may potentially reduce the electricity expenditure of e-mobility. This paper therefore aims to investigate the choice behavior of individuals on their home Renewable Energy Equipment conditioning on the choice of mobility tools. More specifically, we identify the differences among individuals in their preferences and the latent groups. Using the stated preference data collected in the city of Weiz, Austria, we estimated a latent class choice model with social demographics representing the user group membership. Results show that the synergy effect between EV and solar panels and self-sufficient home Energy system is more attractive to people with low income although their willingness to buy are lower than people with high income.

It may also affect households’ investments in Renewable Energy Equipment, i.e. solar panels, heat pumps. Relatively little research has been conducted on how the decision to purchase electric vehicles affects the decision to invest in home Renewable Energy Equipment. This paper, therefore, aims to examine the effects of mobility tools decisions on the intention to invest in solar panels and heat pumps, based on the data collected through a stated choice experiment. A mixed logit model is estimated to capture unobserved heterogeneity among individuals. Results show that mobility tools significantly influence the choice of home Renewable Energy Equipment. Households who prefer to purchase electric vehicles have a higher probability to invest in solar panels and heat pumps than households who prefer other mobility tools. In addition, EV adopters’ intention to invest in solar panels are stronger than the intention to invest in heat pumps. This suggests that electric vehicle users are likely the early adopters of solar panels.

Two rounds of large-scale financial subsidy programs have been developed in China since 2010 to promote the adoption of green Equipment. However, how these subsidies attract Chinese families of different income levels is not fully explored. Given this knowledge gap, we conducted a self-completion questionnaire survey in 2012 to ask 526 respondents about their purchase of domestic EERE Equipment. We explored the effects of subsidy incentives and family incomes on the purchase attitudes and intentions of individuals toward the seven categories of EERE Equipment. We find that family income positively moderates the relationship between EERE Equipment purchase attitude and behavioral intention, and subsidy incentives positively affect the moderating effect of family income. In other words, a higher family income and better familiarization with subsidy incentives can promote the transformation of green attitudes into EERE Equipment purchasing intention. The results may indicate that the subsidized prices are still high in the view of the low-income families. This study contributes to the understanding of the effects of Chinese subsidy incentives and of the economic concerns of people about the purchase of domestic EERE Equipment.
