Minor digestive symptoms are common and dietary approaches such as probiotic administration or fibre and fermentable carbohydrate intake adjustments are often recommended. A Fermented Milk Product (FMP) containing Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis CNCM I-2494 and lactic acid bacteria has been shown to improve digestive symptoms after 4 weeks of consumption, but the speed of onset of this effect and its dependence on fibre intake or physical activity is unknown. To answer these questions, data from two previously published trials on FMP for minor digestive symptoms were combined. Methods. In total, 538 participants provided weekly assessments of bloating, abdominal pain/discomfort, flatulence, borborygmi/rumbling stomach from which a composite score was calculated. At baseline in one study (n = 336), dietary fibre consumption was recorded and physical activity classified as high, moderate or low. The speed of the FMP’s effect was assessed by a Repeated Measure Analysis of variance measuring the change from baseline for the composite score of digestive symptoms. Results. FMP consumption resulted in a significant decrease in the composite score of symptoms after only 2 weeks in both studies and the pooled data at week 1 (−0.35 [−0.69, 0.00]; p = 0.05), week 2 (−0.66 [−1.04, −0.27]; p < 0.001), week 3 (−0.49 [−0.89, −0.10]; p = 0.01) and week 4 (−0.46 [−0.88, −0.04]; p = 0.03). The interactions fibre intake-by-product group, physical activity-by-product group and time-by-product group were not statistically significant. Conclusion. FMP consumption leads to a rapid improvement in symptoms which is likely to encourage adherence to this dietary intervention. This effect is independent of dietary fibre and physical activity.

The present study aimed to examine the effect of sound pressure level (SPL) on serum cortisol concentration in three different times during the night shift. Methods This case–control study was conducted among 75 workers of an industrial and mining firm in 2017. The participants were assigned to one of the three groups (one control and two case groups), with an equal number of workers (25 participants) in each group. Following the ISO 9612 standard, dosimetry was adopted to evaluate equivalent SPL using a TES-1345 dosimeter. The influence of SPL on serum cortisol concentration was Measured during the night shift. The serum cortisol concentration was Measured using a radioimmunoassay (RIA) test in the laboratory. Repeated Measure Analysis of variance and linear mixed models were used with α = 0.05. Results The results indicated a downward trend in the serum cortisol concentration of the three groups during the night shift. Both SPL and exposure time significantly affected cortisol concentration ( p p p = 0.360, p = 0.62). Conclusion Based on the obtained results, increasing SPL will lead to enhancement of serum cortisol concentration. Given that cortisol concentration varies while workers are exposed to different SPLs, this hormone can be used as a biomarker to study the effect of noise-induced stress.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of Silybum marianum (L.) compared with placebo in women with hot flashes. Eighty women were randomly allocated into two equal groups (S. marianum extract [400 mg/d] or placebo capsules). Hot flashes frequency and severity were evaluated in 12 weeks with the Greene Climacteric Scale (GCS) and the Hot Flash Related Daily Interference Scale (HFRDIS). The data were analyzed in SPSS software using t-test, Mann-Whitney, chi-square test and Repeated Measure Analysis. Hot flashes frequency and severity decreased from 4.32 ± 0.20/day to 1.31 ± 0.15/day and from 5.25 ± 0.22 to 1.62 ± 0.08, respectively, during the study in test group (p < .001) which were significantly better than effects of placebo in all steps of study (p < .001). Significant decreases in GCS and HFRDIS scores were also detected in S. marianum group compared with placebo after 4, 8 and 12 weeks (p < .001). The results showed that S. marianum can decrease frequency and severity of hot flashes significantly. Considering the safety and high consumption of this herbal medicine worldwide, its use in women with menopausal symptoms can be helpful.

Also, there are some limitations and insufficiencies of drug therapy and surgical complications. This study has compared the effect ofSaussurea costus (qost) oil as an Iranian traditional medicine product and other contemporary medicine treatment methods on female urinary incontinence. Methods: A parallel double blinded placebo-controlled study was conducted. Thirty to 70 years old women with urinary incontinence were allocated in placebo and intervention groups, 41 patients in each group.Intervention and placebo groups received qost oil and placebo, respectively by local application twice daily below the navel without massage. The results were evaluated with valid questionnaires (ICIQ-SF and I-QOL). For evaluation, Chi-square test, independent-sample t-test and Repeated Measure Analysis of variance were used. Significant p value was Results: A significant decrease in mean scores of the questionnaires during the study was noted in the qost group compared to the placebo group (p<0.001). Before the intervention, thirty one patients in the placebo group and 33 patients in the qost group had mixed urinary incontinence (p=0.794). Urge symptom s(nocturia, urine frequency and urgency to urination) were completely discontinued in 25 patients in the qost group (78.1%) and 7 patients in the placebo group (22.6%) (p<0.001). Conclusion: The results suggested the oil to be effective in treatment of urinary inconsistence.
