    Abstract:

    Pediatric surgery is much different from general surgery, even though the basic principles of surgery are the same. When compared to adults, the pediatric clients react or respond differently in surgery. The surgeries performed in children may be diagnostic, exploratory, curative and palliative etc. Careful post-operative monitoring is essential for a successful outcome of surgery. The main aim of care in the post-operative period is prevention of complications, early identification, and effective treatment of post-operative complications. Need for the study: Post-operative Respiratory Problems are higher in children with major life threatening events occurring in about 4% of children and in adult it is 0.5%. Breathing exercise had been found to be effective in strengthening the Respiratory muscles during post-operative period. Teaching patients about breathing exercises can prevent Respiratory Problems due to abdominal surgeries. Objectives: The main objective of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of blowing tarty whistle as a breathing exercise on the level of Respiratory Problem among experimental group. Conclusion: Breathing exercise in the form of blowing tarty whistle was found to be very effective in the prevention of postoperative Respiratory Problems in children, but it needs more practice and supervision to improve the quality of care. Nursing personnel must educate the children and parents about the appropriate breathing exercise methods.

    To assess the effect of using face mask and deep breathing exercise among cotton mill workers to check whether there is any improvement in Respiratory functions. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: To assess and compare the level of peak expiratory flow rate among cotton mill workers before and after intervention. To assess and compare the presence of self reported Respiratory Problems among cotton mill workers before and after intervention. To associate the peak expiratory flow rate of cotton mill workers with demographic variables (smoking status, experience, etc.) To assess and correlate the level of wearing face mask with Respiratory Problem. RESEARCH HYPOTHESIS: There is a significant difference in mean peak expiratory flow rate among cotton mill workers before and after intervention. There is a significant difference in presence of self reported Respiratory Problem among cotton mill workers before and after intervention. There is a significant difference in correlation of use of face mask and the Respiratory Problems. LIMITATION: The study is limited to 50 samples from cotton mills. Study is based on verbal report of the workers. Scope of the study: This study is to assess the effectiveness of using face mask and deep breathing exercise in which helps to improve peak expiratory flow rate and to reduce Respiratory Problems from moderate to mild. It is very important to practice the deep breathing exercise by the cotton mill workers. If the exercise has positive effect it can be practiced by all workers.

These Problems can impact their life and make them to develop powerlessness and finally hopelessness, especially when their resources are lost and decreased in energy after a long time care. However, nurses in empowerment model can be not only a resource person but also a resource mobilizer.     Abstract Adult Respiratory distress syndrome is a common Respiratory Problem with a wide array of precipitating causes and an overall mortality rate of more than 50%. Signs on physical examination tend to be nonspecific as do laboratory findings associated with the syndrome. Because of its diverse etiology, there is no one specific treatment for adult Respiratory distress syndrome. Therapy is primarily supportive and centers around the use of mechanical ventilator support. The authors discuss the pathogenesis and management of this syndrome together with some of the newer approaches to mechanical ventilation.

  • Prevalence and Associated Factors with Respiratory Problems among Industrial Workers

    Background: In food processing industry, hazardous contaminants are generated. Flour dust has been introduced as one of the effective factors in the prevalence of Respiratory disorders among the workers of the flour production factories. Objectives: To assess the prevalence and associated factors with Respiratory Problems among industrial workers. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was used for the study. Non- probability purposive sampling technique was applied to choose flour industry and consecutive sampling technique was applied to select the sample from the industry. Hundred fifty respondents were taken as sample and self-administered structured interview questionnaire was used to collect the data. Results: The study revealed that more than half 103 (68.70%) of the respondents had work-related Respiratory Problems. The prevalence of cough, phlegm, breathlessness, chest tightness and whistling Problems were 100 (66.67%), 58 (38.67%), 65 (43.33%), 9 (6.0%) and 4 (2.67%). Among different demographic variables, association of Respiratory Problems was found with religion (p value = 0.015), income per months of respondents (p value = 0.034) and the information they had about work-related Respiratory Problems (p value = 0.000). Conclusions: The study shows that there is higher prevalence of Respiratory Problems among industrial workers. Also, it shows there is association of Respiratory Problem with exacerbating factors and health checkup facility in the industry. J-GMC-N | Volume 11 | Issue 01 | January-June 2018 , Page: 46-51
