  • Retail Fuel Price Stabilization and Revenue Generation of Dynamic Taxation Policy
    Transportation Research Record, 2013
Co-Authors: Lei Zhang, Shin-pei Tsay, Yiwen Zhu
    Abstract:

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (CEIP), through its Leadership Initiative for Transportation Solvency, in 2011 released Road to Recovery: Transforming America's Transportation, a report that proposed a new Revenue mechanism to fund a reformed transportation program fully. The report recommends that Congress couple a per barrel oil fee with a variable, countercyclical gas tax. This paper discusses the dynamic impacts of CEIP's Revenue policy on household travel behavior, Revenue Generation for the federal trust fund, energy consumption, equity, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and air pollution at the national level from 2008 to 2010. The analysis developed econometric models: a multiple vehicle miles traveled (VMT) regression model and a discrete vehicle ownership model. Model results showed that the CEIP Revenue proposal could fill the Revenue shortfall regardless of the world oil price. During the historic study period of 2008 to 2010, the CEIP policy would have collected up to more tha...

  • On Revenue Generation When Auctioning Network Resources
Proceedings of the 44th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2005
    Co-Authors: Rajiv Maheswaran, Tamer Başar
    Abstract:

While efficiency of mechanisms for control of communication networks has been extensively investigated, little attention has been paid to the critical metric of Revenue Generation. In this paper, we pursue such an investigation within a class of allocation schemes with the minimal signaling and computation costs necessary in communication network domains. We show that, within this space, linear cost rules for proportional allocation mechanisms are optimal for symmetric agent populations and reserving a portion of the resource can increase Revenue even though less of the resource is being sold. While nonlinear cost functions can be better for asymmetric populations, intelligent agents can undermine this via signal splitting. We show how a resource can counter this phenomenon by declaring a linear cost.

  • A typology of beverage taxation: Multiple approaches for obesity prevention and obesity prevention-related Revenue Generation
Journal of Public Health Policy, 2013
Co-Authors: Jamie F Chriqui, Lisa M Powell, Frank J Chaloupka, Shelby Smith Eidson
    Abstract:

Obesity is a global problem. Sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB) are a leading contributor of added sugars in individual diets and thus to obesity. Governments have considered taxing SSBs to prevent obesity and generate Revenue, but no ‘one-size-fits-all’ taxation approach exists. We describes three key considerations for governments interested in exploring beverage taxation: (i) what type of tax to apply plus how and where the tax is collected and presented to consumers; (ii) what types of beverages to tax; and (iii) the amount of tax needed to affect consumption and/or obesity prevention-related Revenue Generation. We offer examples of existing beverage taxes in the United States and internationally. The information will be useful to policymakers at all levels of government, as they continue to consider beverage taxation policies.

  • RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN Revenue Generation STRATEGIES AND PERFORMANCE OF WATER SERVICE PROVIDERS IN KENYA, A CASE STUDY OF HOMA BAY WATER AND SEWERAGE COMPANY LIMITED
Strategic Journal of Business & Change Management, 2020
    Co-Authors: Mark Mwango, Dennis Juma
    Abstract:

To realise adequate reliable safe and sustainable water in Kenya is elusive for most water service providers with special reference to public utilities which are grappling with the reality of not being able to break even in their operations. Estimates showed that access to water in Kenya is currently at 59% and sanitation 32%. This situation is associated to inability by water service providers to meet the set Revenue Generation strategies, Homa-Bay water and Sanitation Company Limited (HOMAWASCO) included. The existing literature studies on the factors influencing Revenue Generation by water utilities have led to varied results ranging from those which support a low and significant relationship to those which are supporting moderate and insignificant relationship. This study therefore articulated the problem by finding the relationship between Revenue Generation strategies and performance of water services in Kenya guided by four objectives so as to establish the relationship between goal setting and performance of Water Service Providers in Kenya, to determine relationship between customer sensitization and performance of Water Service providers in Kenya, to establish relationship between staff capacity building and performance of Water Service Providers in Kenya and to establish relationship between service expansion and performance of Water Service Providers in Kenya. The study utilized simple random sampling technique to select the sample from the target population. The target population was from HOMAWASCO employees. The entire population of HOMAWASCO was selected and a structured questionnaire was used for data collection as the study used primary data. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used in analyzing the data where the results were presented in tabular form. Correlation analysis was conducted to establish the relationship between Revenue Generation strategies and performance of water service providers in Kenya. From the analysis done, the researcher found that Revenue Generation strategies greatly influence the performance of water service providers thus recommended that the water service providers should have clear policies governing the Revenue collection process as clear policies defines the channels to be used to reach the clients and how the clients are given services to their expectations thus customer satisfaction leading to more demand of the product as the company generates more income. Key words: Goal setting, Customer sensitization, staff capacity, Service expansion CITATION: Mwango, M. O. & Juma, O. D. (2020). Relationship between Revenue Generation strategies and performance of water service providers in Kenya, a case study of Homabay Water and Sewerage Company Limited. • Dynamics of Revenue Generation in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda: A Co-integration and error-correction modeling approach
    2015
    Co-Authors: Adam B. S. Mwakalobo
    Abstract:

The dynamics of Revenue Generation in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda are explored. Results demonstrate that Revenue Generation is sluggish in Tanzania compared to Kenya and Uganda. Macroeconomic environment, economic structure, and level of development are fundamental at explaining these differences. Results reveal that these countries have the potential for generating more Revenue, if could address weaknesses inherent in their tax systems. Computerization of tax collection; expansion of the tax base; address problems associated with tax Revenue leakages; and instituting strong legal enforcements should be at the fore in the ongoing tax reforms so as to enhance tax Revenue collection.
