  • Studies on thermally induced microstructural modifications and electrical conductivity in glass RPC detector materials
    'Elsevier BV', 2020
    Co-Authors: Kumar K. V. Aneesh, Ravikumar H. B.
    Abstract:

Asahi and Saint Gobain float glass Resistive Plate Chamber (RPC) detector materials are subjected to isochronal annealing treatment. To explore the temperature induced microstructural modifications in glass RPC detector materials, Positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy (PALS), X-Ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic investigations were performed. The positron lifetime parameters viz., o-Ps lifetime (tau(3)) and void size (V-f) increased significantly due to thermal expansion of Si-O-Si bonds in the regular tetrahedral structure of glass network. The significant increase in the void size of glass RPCs above 150 degrees C annealing temperature is attributed to the thermal vibrations of Si-O-Si bonds. The temperature induced electrical conductivity and activation energy is correlated with the positron lifetime parameters in both the float glasses. The thermally induced structural changes at higher annealing temperature are more in Saint Gobain glass than Asahi float glasses

  • Effect of Ar(+)Ion Implantation-Induced Microstructural Modifications on Electrical Conductivity of Glass RPC Detector Materials
'Springer Science and Business Media LLC', 2020
    Co-Authors: Kumar K. V. Aneesh, Ravikumar H. B.
    Abstract:

Argon ions with energy of 1 MeV and 500 keV are implanted at various fluences into Asahi and Saint Gobain clear float glasses used for resistive plate chamber (RPC) detector fabrication. The decreased size of voids (V-f) in the selected glasses is interpreted as an increased short-range order of the glass structure at higher fluence of argon ion implantation. The increased local temperature influences the diffusion of argon ions via trapping in the silica glass voids for higher implantation fluence. The slight increase in bandgap energy (E-g) in the glass RPC detector materials at higher argon ion implantation fluence observed reduced electrical conductivity. The increased energy bandgap in the float glass RPC detector samples enhanced surface resistivity, consequently reducing the leakage current

  • Energieffektivisering av Saint-Gobain AB Sweden Gyprocs torksystem : energy efficiency of Saint-Gobain AB Sweden Gyprocs drying system
SLU Dept. of Energy and Technology, 2021
Co-Authors: Von Bergen Elsa, Christiansen Linus, Eriksson Jonathan, Israelsson Karin, Laurell Algot, Nedstrand Emma, Pettersson Anton, Werre Albin
    Abstract:

When producing gypsum boards at Saint-Gobain AB Sweden Gyproc an approximatly 200 m long oven is used in a drying process. In this process a lot of energy is wasted as hot flue gas and hot water. When investigating applicable heat recovery systems roughly 1 500 MWh/yr was found possible to reuse in their own facilites. To achieve this two heat exchangers need to be installed as well as insulating an already exsisting heat exchanger. In order to avoid high pressure drops in the heat exchangers an additional fan needs to be implemented. The study is done only on one product that Gyproc delivers, called GNE. To extract highest possible energy from the hot water a plate heat exchanger with water to water flow has been implemented. Since the hot flue gas contains a lot of steam a condenser has been used to fully utilize the latent energy. The results obtained in the study shows that with the suggested solutions Gyproc will use less energy and therefore emitt less CO2

  • Reorganização logística na Saint-Gobain Weber Portugal, S.A.
    Universidade de Aveiro, 2019
    Co-Authors: Marinho, Renato António Moreira
    Abstract:

This project was developed at the company Saint-Gobain Weber Portugal SA, during a curricular internship. It arises from the necessity to restructure the entire logistics layout, to improve both customer service and working environment, keeping it aligned with the safety standards Instituted. A study of times was carried out in first place that allowed the characterization of the current state of the expedition, understanding the methods and practices used. This led to the identification and discussion of the main wastes and problems, which culminated in the definition of a set of improvement actions, which included the implementation of kanban for production, acquisition of shelves, reorganization of storage spaces and construction of a new method to organize the queue of customers. The last stage was the evaluation of all new system. To do it so, a simulation was developed, allowing a savings quantification. Two simulation models using the Arena® software were constructed, representative of the current and proposed state. The results demonstrate a daily saving of more than 12 kilometres travelled by the forklift trucks, and 2 hours and 54 hours minutes of work. For customer service, earnings translate into less than 32 seconds per loaded pallet

    2022
    Co-Authors: Neves, Helena Sofia Morim
    Abstract:

This work was developed at Saint-Gobain Weber Portugal S.A., within the scope of the curricular internship by the Universidade de Aveiro. Its main objective is to reduce the existing stocks in the Carregado production center, in order to assist the implementation of the WMS, through parameterization in SAP. As foundation of this work, a literary review is presented that describes the main concepts related to Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Stock Management, Information Systems and Lean Thinking. In a first phase, data collection was carried out, as well as their screening, and the current situation was evaluated, showing the need to carry out this work. Then, ABC and XYZ analyzes were developed, indentifying where the most prominent products were, as well as their behavior. In the next phase, a stock management model is used, more specifically the model of continuous review to determine the economic batches of production/order, safety stock and replenishment/order point. That said, these values were rounded up to your sales unit and, after approved by the company, were introduced in SAP. The results obtained demonstrate that the main objective was reached, with a reduction of stocks of 30,1% in the month of May. However, it is expected that over the next few months there will be an even greater decrease.Mestrado em Engenharia e Gestão Industria
