PENINGKATAN PEMAHAMAN SISWA SMP PADA TEKS NARRATIVE MELALUI STRATEGI Semantic Mapping
2020Co-Authors: Durratul Hikmah, Mohammad Sofyan Adi PranataAbstract:Narrative texts imply life lessons in each of their stories. Hence, students are expected to understand the text and capture the moral message of life contained in the text. Reading narrative text needs particular strategy to determine the moral message behind text. One of the strategies is Semantic Mapping. Semantic Mapping helps teachers direct the students not only to focus on the details of each keyword but also on the structure of the text. It shows a connection between ideas and story components. This study investigated the effectiveness of using Semantic Mapping strategy for improving students’ reading skill on narrative text. It used a quasi-experimental design. The population of this study was 51 students of SMP Nurul Jadid Paiton Probolinggo consisting of 25 students from class VIII-H as experimental class and 26 students from class VIII-I as control class. In this study, the pre-test, treatments, and post-test given to both experimental and control classes. The data were analyzed by using T-test for using SPSS 16.00 Windows to know the sinificant difference of the students’ reading comprehension text between experimental and control class. The finding showed that Semantic Mapping strategy is an effective way in improving students’ comprehension on reading narrative text.

READING NARRATIVE BY Semantic Mapping: A STRATEGY TO ENHANCE STUDENTS’ COMPREHENSION
LEKSEMA: Jurnal Bahasa dan Sastra, 2019Co-Authors: Durratul Hikmah, Mohammad Sofyan Adi PranataAbstract:This study attempted to investigate the effectiveness of using Semantic Mapping strategy for improving students’ reading comprehension skill on narrative text. This study employed a quasi-experimental design by dividing the research group into control and experimental group. In this study, a pre-test and post-test experimental design with control group was used. The instruments used to collect the data were reading comprehension tests before and after the treatment. The study was conducted at grade VIII of SMP Nurul Jadid Probolinggo at which the students were identified as having problem in comprehending English narrative text. The finding showed that Semantic Mapping strategy can improve students’ comprehension on reading narrative text.

Zero-Shot Recognition using Dual Visual-Semantic Mapping Paths
arXiv: Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, 2017Co-Authors: Donghui Wang, Yuetan Lin, Yueting ZhuangAbstract:Zero-shot recognition aims to accurately recognize objects of unseen classes by using a shared visual-Semantic Mapping between the image feature space and the Semantic embedding space. This Mapping is learned on training data of seen classes and is expected to have transfer ability to unseen classes. In this paper, we tackle this problem by exploiting the intrinsic relationship between the Semantic space manifold and the transfer ability of visual-Semantic Mapping. We formalize their connection and cast zero-shot recognition as a joint optimization problem. Motivated by this, we propose a novel framework for zero-shot recognition, which contains dual visual-Semantic Mapping paths. Our analysis shows this framework can not only apply prior Semantic knowledge to infer underlying Semantic manifold in the image feature space, but also generate optimized Semantic embedding space, which can enhance the transfer ability of the visual-Semantic Mapping to unseen classes. The proposed method is evaluated for zero-shot recognition on four benchmark datasets, achieving outstanding results.

Teaching Vocabulary Through a Semantic Mapping Technique.
Zimbabwe Journal of Educational Research, 2009Co-Authors: Isaac. MachakanjaAbstract:This study compared teaching vocabulary through a definition and explanation technique with a Semantic Mapping technique, specifically to see which of the two techniques was more effective in achieving accurate and appropriate use of selected vocabulary and generating an awareness that words are related in meaning. A group of 40 Form 1 students were randomly selected. These were taught using a definition and explanation technique and later pre - tested. They were then taught through a Semantic Mapping technique, and were post - tested. The results showed a significant improvement in the performance of the students in respect to accurate and appropriate use of words as well as understanding meaning relations among words after being taught through a Semantic Mapping technique than after being taught with a definition and explanation technique
