A study for safety and health management problem of Semiconductor Industry in Taiwan.
Industrial health, 2008Co-Authors: Chin-jung Chao, Hui-ming Wang, Wen-yang Feng, Feng-yi TsengAbstract:The main purpose of this study is to discuss and explore the safety and health man- agement in Semiconductor Industry. The researcher practically investigates and interviews the input, process and output of the safety and health management of Semiconductor Industry by using the questionnaires and the interview method which is developed according to the frame- work of the OHSAS 18001. The result shows that there are six important factors for the safe- ty and health management in Taiwan Semiconductor Industry. 1. The company should make employee clearly understand the safety and health laws and standards. 2. The company should make the safety and health management policy known to the public. 3. The company should put emphasis on the pursuance of the safety and health management laws. 4. The company should prevent the accidents. 5. The safety and health message should be communicated sufficiently. 6. The company should consider safety and health norm completely.

A Markov regime-switching model for the Semiconductor Industry cycles
Economic Modelling, 2006Co-Authors: Wen-hsien Liu, Yih-luan ChyiAbstract:Abstract Because of the huge fluctuation in the Semiconductor business, it has been a challenging work for the Industry researchers to predict the turning points of the Semiconductor Industry cycles. To catch the cyclical behavior of the Semiconductor business, we propose a Markov Regime-Switching model with two regimes representing expansion and contraction. The simple nonlinear, two states, regime-switching model shows a successful in-sample prediction on the contraction of Semiconductor Industry sales during the period of 1990:01–2003:08.

Determinants of the Semiconductor Industry Cycles
Social Science Research Network, 2005Co-Authors: Wen-hsien LiuAbstract:This paper aims at identification of the main explanatory factors of the global Semiconductor Industry cycles. The empirical results from a 12-variable Vector Autoregressive (VAR) model confirm that both the Semiconductor inventory and the fab capacity play important roles in signaling the future state of the Semiconductor business. This finding is also consistent with the Industry practitioners' observations, such as McClean (2001a), that the Semiconductor Industry cycles were mainly caused by the Industry overcapacity.
