    Abstract:

    Work-life balance of couples with young children is a recurrent topic in Portuguese policy since the 1974 Revolution, which led to a growing promotion of the dual-earner/dual-carer model within an inclusive gender equality agenda. Drawing on the analysis of Portuguese family policies evolution, quantitative data (official statistics and ISSP 2012) and on the narratives of two dual-earner/ dual carer couples, we depict the exogenous and endogenous forces that are driving a less uneven work-life balance, but also gender ambivalences that are slowing down the pace towards equal sharing of home production and parenting for men and women. Results show that public and private spheres are becoming less gendered, owing to the strong commitment of women with full-time paid-work and to the increasing involvement of men in early childcare, and this comes along with a new Sense of Entitlement, for men and women, to negotiate gender roles in family life. On the other hand, they show that even if gender equality as a societal desideratum is a pervasive norm for young generations, and even if it´s evident the developing shift towards more equal sharing patterns among young dual-earner/ dual-carer couples, ambivalences regarding gender roles in mothering and fathering (and inherent gender privileges) are operating as a reflex of an incomplete revolution in Portuguese society.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    ABSTRACT With the current Constitution, many labor rights have been reduced, modified their policy statements and located outside the chapter of fundamental rights of the person, compared with the 1979 Constitution; however, as discussed in the course of this investigation, this does not prevent labor rights enshrined in the current Constitution are cataloged as fundamental rights, among which are the right to paid holiday break. In the current juncture, those people who are now working under a part-time contract are excluded from enjoying and exercising their right to rest holiday paid, because Article 12, subsection A of Legislative Decree No. 713 and Article 11 ° Supreme Decree No. 012-92-TR prescribed daily minimum day (04hrs) that a worker must labor to access this social benefit. So, the purpose of this study was to examine the legal, political and philosophical foundations that relate to grant the right to paid holiday break for part-time worker, for this purpose the category of fundamental right the right to paid leave was demonstrated, the constitutional status of the 52 Convention ILO develops the right to rest holiday paid was established, 52 Convention ILO related to the national regulatory framework right a paid holiday break, Article 12, subsection A of Legislative Decree No. 713 and article 11 of its rules on the principle-right to equality was judged, the role of social and employment policy guidance from 2012 to 2016 was estimated to understand the government's commitment in the protection of labor rights and regulations on the right to leisure holiday based on the theory of legal post-positivist was structured. Por lo que, el propósito de éste investigación consistió en conocer los fundamentos jurídicos, políticos y filosóficos que se relacionan para otorgar el derecho a descanso vacacional remunerado para el trabajador a tiempo parcial, para tal fin se demostró la categoría de derecho fundamental del derecho a descanso remunerado, se estableció el rango constitucional de los Convenio 52° OIT que desarrolla el derecho a descanso vacacional remunerado, se relacionó el Convenio 52° OIT con el marco regulatorio nacional del derecho a descanso vacacional remunerado, se juzgó el artículo 12° inciso A del Decreto Legislativo N° 713 y artículo 11° de su reglamento en base al principio-derecho a la igualdad, se estimó el rol del lineamiento político socio-laboral 2012-2016 para comprender el compromiso del gobierno en la protección de los derechos laborales y se estructuró la normativa sobre derecho a descanso vacacional en base a la teoría del post-positivista jurídico. Entre las conclusiones arribadas en éste investigación, se concluyó que el artículo 12° inciso A del Decreto Legislativo N° 713 y artículo 11° de su reglamento contravienen gravemente normas constitucionales y realizan un trato diferenciado no justificado a los trabajadores bajo contrato a tiempo parcial. La presente investigación tiene una justificación teórica porque brinda al operador jurídico razones para fundamentar la protección, aplicación y sentido interpretativo del derecho a descanso vacacional para la protección de los intereses del trabajador.     RESUMEN Con la actual Carta Magna, muchos derechos laborales se han visto reducidos, modificados en sus enunciados normativos y ubicados fuera del capítulo de derechos fundamentales de la persona, en comparación con la Constitución de 1979; no obstante, como se expone en el transcurso de ésta investigación, ello no impide que los derechos laborales consagrados en la Constitución actual se les catalogue como derechos fundamentales, entre los cuales encontramos al derecho a descanso vacacional remunerado. En la coyuntura actual, aquellas personas que se encuentran laborando bajo un contrato a tiempo parcial están excluidas de gozar y ejercer su derecho a descanso vacacional remunerado, debido a que el artículo 12° inciso A del Decreto Legislativo N° 713 y artículo 11° de su reglamento (Decreto Supremo N° 012-92-TR) prescriben la jornada mínima diaria (04hrs) que debe laborar un trabajador para acceder a éste beneficio social.   • Nurse academics' experience of contra-power harassment from undergraduate nursing students in Australia

    Background: There is growing concern around inappropriate behaviour being perpetrated by under-graduate nursing students towards nursing academics. Coined contra-power harassment, is defined as the harassment of individuals in formal positions of power and authority by those that are not. The type of harassment behaviours reported include: verbal and physical violence, character assassination through social media, stalking and sexually motivated behaviours. The most often cited reasons for the escalation in these behaviours are seen with course progression and the awarding of grades. Aim: The aim of this study is to better understand the extent to which nursing academics experience contra-power harassment from under-graduate nursing students. Method: A convenience sample of nursing academics were in Australia were contacted and provided with an introductory letter, a participant information sheet and a link to an online questionnaire. A 41-item Likert scale (Strongly agree-strongly disagree) was used to elicit responses to statements on academics' experiences of and the contributing factors associated with contra-power harassment. Results: The main contributing factor identified from this study was seen as the consumerism of higher education; in particular paying for a degree gave a Sense of Entitlement with academics experiencing the highest levels of student harassment around grades. Conclusions: Contra-power harassment is becoming common place in higher education especially in nursing education. The competitive nature of obtaining employment post-university has meant that some nursing student's behaviours are becoming increasingly uncivil, challenging and unprofessional

    Abstract:

    Using both qualitative longitudinal data collected 20 years after the original Unequal Childhoods study and interview data from a study of upwardly mobile adults, this address demonstrates how cultural knowledge matters when white and African American young adults of differing class backgrounds navigate key institutions. I find that middle-class young adults had more knowledge than their working-class or poor counterparts of the “rules of the game” regarding how institutions worked. They also displayed more of a Sense of Entitlement to ask for help. When faced with a problem related to an institution, middle-class young adults frequently succeeded in getting their needs accommodated by the institution; working-class and poor young adults were less knowledgeable about and more frustrated by bureaucracies. This address also shows the crucial role of “cultural guides” who help upwardly mobile adults navigate institutions. While many studies of class reproduction have looked at key turning points, this address argues that “small moments” may be critical in setting the direction of life paths.

    Abstract:

    Although family life has an important impact on children’s life chances, the mechanisms through which parents transmit advantages are imperfectly understood. An ethnographic data set of white children and black children approximately 10 years old shows the effects of social class on interactions inside the home. Middle-class parents engage in concerted cultivation by attempting to foster children’s talents through organized leisure activities and extensive reasoning. Working-class and poor parents engage in the accomplishment of natural growth, providing the conditions under which children can grow but leaving leisure activities to children themselves. These parents also use directives rather than reasoning. Middle-class children, both white and black, gain an emerging Sense of Entitlement from their family life. Race had much less impact than social class. Also, differences in a cultural logic of childrearing gave parents and their children differential resources to draw on in their interactions with professionals and other adults outside the home. Middle-class children gained individually insignificant but cumulatively important advantages. Working-class and poor children did not display the same Sense of Entitlement or advantages. Some areas of family life appeared exempt from the effects of social class, however.
