  • WAS Separatism A VIABLE SOLUTION FOR THE SUDAN - SOUTH SUDAN CONFLICT?
    2014
    Co-Authors: Ciprian Sandu
    Abstract:

The following article is part of our special issue concerning the Separatism solution for the African conflicts. This article is focused on the prolonged conflict between North and South Sudan in order to prove that, at least for this particular conflict, Separatism was a viable solution in order to stop the conflict. At the same time, this article links the prolonged violence to the bad governance of the central authorities in Sudan after the independence, rather than accusing the British colonial legacy.

  • Separatism in the Eastern Provinces of the German Reich at the End of the First World War
    Journal of Contemporary History, 1994
    Co-Authors: Ralph Schattkowsky
    Abstract:

Rhineland and Ruhr which lasted until 1924 was undoubtedly one of the most noteworthy. Although not given the same emphasis by historians, the Separatism in the provinces of eastern Prussia was no less significant, especially in view of the impact it had on the Reich's increasingly difficult relations with Poland and the question of ceding territory to its eastern neighbours. Despite similarities among the politically influential groups in their attitudes towards the central Prussian government, the revolutionary events in Germany, and the expected peace terms, the separatist movements were each quite different. Their individual features were a result of the more or less locally restricted interests of certain groups, the ability of these groups to exert political influence, and the extent to which they were influenced by outside forces. Here we are faced with a wide spectrum of separatist efforts and autonomy movements whose conception of practical politics often could not be clearly differentiated. These ranged from efforts to become a free state, involving a complete break from the Reich, to demands of varying intensity for privileged treatment in governmental and economic issues. Therefore, the term 'Separatism' does not accurately describe the efforts in each instance, but for the purposes of this article will be used to cover them all. The government's position regarding Separatism was uniform. It strictly opposed all centrifugal movements and attempted to associate them with the dangerous demands of the Poles regarding the eastern provinces. Ebert formulated the fundamental standpoint of the German government at the joint meeting of the cabinet and the Central Council on 31 December 1918, to the effect 'that no

  • Separatism in East Asia—On the Separatist Movement in Taiwan(Continued)
Journal of Beijing Union University, 2005
    Co-Authors: Zhu Xian-long
    Abstract:

With an analysis of the evolution and expansion of the Taiwan Separatism or the “Taiwan independence”,it is pointed out that the Taiwan separatist movement is a non-mainstream and unstable element both within Taiwan Island and in international community; it also proves to be a threat to the peace and security on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and to the peace of the region and the world as a whole.

  • The Separatism in East Asia—A Brief Introduction (to be continued)
Journal of Beijing Union University, 2004
    Co-Authors: Zhu Xian-long
    Abstract:

The Separatism in East Asia began since the end of world War Ⅱ and is still alive today, as can been seen from the Activities for Independence of Taiwan in China, the Chechen movement for independence in Russia and various others forms of Separatism in Myanmar,Indonesia and South Philippines. It sorts the above to three different kinds:racial Separatism, religion Separatism and sovereignty Separatism. Because of the complexity of originality, they are quite difficult to deal with and will remain so for quite a long time. But,the cooperation between the big countries will hold back the Separatism and thus guarantee the stability of East Asia.

  • Scottish National Party Between Separatism and Secessionism
    Západočeská univerzita v Plzni, 2020
    Co-Authors: Hošinská Eliška
    Abstract:

V první části vysvětluji pojmy Separatismus, secesionismus a nacionalismus. V další (empirické) části práce nejprve popisuji skotský nacionalismus před vznikem SNP a události, které vedly k jejímu založení. Dále se věnuji historii této strany od roku 1934 až do února roku 2020 a zaměřuji se na období, kdy měla SNP secesionistické snahy a kdy spíše snahy separatistické. V závěru hodnotím získané poznatky a důvody separatistických a secesionistických snah SNP v daných obdobích.ObhájenoThe aim of the bachelor's thesis is to apply the concepts of Separatism and secessionism to specific examples in the Scottish National Party (SNP), in other words to observe efforts to become independent, or demands for greater autonomy in various periods of existence of this nationalist party. The method for achieving the given goal is the analysis of selected periods of SNP activity, for example election programs and their fulfilment in practice. The thesis is divided into two parts. In the first part I explain the concepts of Separatism, secessionism and nationalism. In the next (empirical) part of the thesis, I first describe Scottish nationalism before the SNP was founded and the events that led to its establishment. Then I deal with the history of this party from 1934 to February 2020 and focus on the period when the SNP had secessionist efforts and when rather separatist efforts. In conclusion I evaluate the acquired knowledge and the reasons for the separatist and secessionist efforts of the SNP in the given periods
