A Depletion-Mode a-IGZO TFT Shift Register With a Single Low-Voltage-Level Power Signal
IEEE Electron Device Letters, 2011Co-Authors: Seung Chan Choi, Yong Ho JangAbstract:We proposed and fabricated a new depletion-mode amorphous indium-gallium-zinc-oxide thin-film-transistor (a-IGZO TFT) Shift Register. Although only one low-voltage-level power signal (VGL) rather than widely used two ones was employed, the depletion-mode a-IGZO TFTs in the proposed Shift Register were turned off completely due to a series-connected two-transistor structure. The proposed Shift Register exhibited successfully a high-voltage output pulse. The power consumption of the Shift Register with ten stages is 1.67 mW at the high-voltage-level power signal of 20 V, the VGL of -5 V, and the clock frequency of 13.9 kHz.

A Depletion-Mode In–Ga–Zn–O Thin-Film Transistor Shift Register Embedded With a Full-Swing Level Shifter
IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, 2011Co-Authors: Seung Chan Choi, Yong Ho Jang, Soo Young YoonAbstract:We proposed and fabricated the Shift Register embedded with a full-swing level Shifter employing the depletion-mode In-Ga-Zn-O thin-film transistors (IGZO TFTs). In the level Shifter, two clock signals with 180° out of phase and one start signal were employed to obtain a full-swing output. Also, the depletion-mode IGZO TFTs in the Shift Register were successfully turned off by employing two low-voltage-level signals. The level Shifter and the Shift Register consist of six TFTs and one capacitor, and 11 TFTs, respectively. The depletion-mode IGZO TFT Shift Register embedded with a level Shifter exhibited a high-voltage output pulse without any distortion. The power consumption is 2.13 mW at a VGH of 20 V, a VGL1 of -10 V, and a clock frequency of 12.5 kHz.

A Novel Depletion-Mode a-IGZO TFT Shift Register With a Node-Shared Structure
IEEE Electron Device Letters, 2012Co-Authors: Woo Seok Choi, Soo Young Yoon, Yong-kee HwangAbstract:We proposed and fabricated a new depletion-mode amorphous indium-gallium-zinc-oxide thin-film-transistor (TFT) Shift Register with a node-shared structure. The proposed Shift Register requires 14 TFTs, 3 clock lines, and 3 power source lines for two output pulses, whereas the previous Shift Registers consisted of more than 22 TFTs, 4 clock lines, and 6 power source lines. The experimental results showed that the proposed Shift Register successfully generated two output pulses at one stage without any distortion. The circuit area of the proposed Shift Register is reduced by about 30%, as compared with that of the previous one.

New Depletion-Mode IGZO TFT Shift Register
IEEE Electron Device Letters, 2011Co-Authors: Chang-il RyooAbstract:A new Shift Register employing bottom-gate In-Ga-Zn-O thin-film transistors (IGZO TFTs) was proposed and fabricated. Depletion-mode IGZO TFTs were successfully turned off by employing two low-voltage-level signals. The IGZO Shift Register exhibited a high-voltage output pulse without any distortion and a maximum clock frequency of 417 kHz. The proposed Shift Register would be an important building block for a depletion-mode oxide TFT display.

Low Power Programmable Shift Register With Depletion Mode Oxide TFTs for High Resolution and High Frame Rate AMFPDs
Journal of Display Technology, 2014Co-Authors: Eunji SongAbstract:This paper demonstrates a programmable pulse width Shift Register using depletion mode oxide TFTs for high resolution and high frame rate displays. The proposed Shift Register is adopted for a pre-charging scheme in a multi-frame-rate display panel because the gate pulse width is programmable only by adjusting the start pulse width without any additional clock signals and reconfiguration of interconnection. To cope with the depletion-mode issue that TFTs are turned on even at zero gate-source voltage, the modified circuits are introduced, compared to the previous LTPS version of a programmable Shift Register. In addition, the power consumption is reduced significantly by means of a new inverter circuit. The proposed circuit is verified by SPICE for 50 stages and the estimated power consumption is 5.01 mW in the case of two line time pulse width, which is lower than 9.76 mW of a previous oxide TFT overlap Shift Register by 48.7%.
