Pressure evaluation of 3D seamless knitted bras and conventional wired bras

The fitting evaluation of these products remains unknown and there is limited knowledge about the effects of knitting parameters on the bra tension. This study developed 3 styles of seamless knitted bras with various loop length and elastic yarn tension based on a 2 2 full factorial experimental design with one additional centre level. Therefore, a total of 3 × 5= 15 new seamless bra samples have been knitted. The skin pressure exerted by the new bras was compared with 4 commercial bras including 2 "cut and sewn" wired bras and 2 seamless knitted bras. Six women subjects of breast size 75B*in our newly developed breast Sizing System were invited to wear all the bra samples. The skin pressure exerted by the bra was measured by the Novel pliance-X pressure sensors on 11 body positions. The results indicated that newly developed seamless bras showed lower pressure than the commercial bras, but had a considerably higher pressure at the cup base point. The new seamless bras with the largest loop length presented the lowest pressure values. Furthermore, empirical equations were established to predict 2 critical pressure points at "apex" and "side bottom band" from two major knitting parameters. This study provides the new knowledge of seamless knitted bra fitting and the resulted bra pressure, as well as some guidelines for seamless knitted product design and manufacturing.Institute of Textiles and Clothin

Development of a new chinese bra Sizing System based on breast anthropometric measurements

Woman's breast is however a very complex 3D geometry, the existing Sizing System based on just two girth measurements may be inappropriate in the categorization of breast sizes for bras. Through analyzing the nude breast measurements from 456 subjects aged between 20 and 39, we hereby propose a new bra Sizing System for Chinese women. The new Sizing System uses underbust girth and the breast depth width ratio as the classifying parameters. They were identified through principal component factor analysis and K-means cluster analysis as the two most critical parameters out of 98 measurements obtained from 3D body scanning and 5 supplementary manual measurements as well as other relevant breast parameters including breast angles, distance, width, thickness, volume and curvature. Relevance to industry: The existing bra Sizing System is inadequate in classifying breast sizes for bras. This paper presents a method for classifying nude breast shape for establishing a new bra Sizing System. The application of the new Sizing System will be important to improve fitting comfort in intimate apparel.Institute of Textiles and Clothin

Applied Ergonomics, 2000Co-Authors: Pierre Meunier, Shi YinAbstract:Two-dimensional, image-based anthropometric measurement Systems offer an interesting alternative to traditional and three-dimensional methods in applications such as clothing Sizing. These automated Systems are attractive because of their low cost and the speed with which they can measure size and determine the best-fitting garment. Although these Systems have appeal in this type of application, not much is known about the accuracy and precision of the measurements they take. In this paper, the performance of one such System was assessed. The accuracy of the System was analyzed using a database of 349 subjects (male and female) who were also measured with traditional anthropometric tools and techniques, and the precision was estimated through repeated measurements of both a plastic mannequin and a human subject. The results of the System were compared with those of trained anthropometrists, and put in perspective relative to clothing Sizing requirements and short-term body changes. It was concluded that image-based Systems are capable of providing anthropometric measurements that are quite comparable to traditional measurement methods (performed by skilled measurers), both in terms of accuracy and repeatability.

A Suggestion of the Size-designation for the Underweight Women's Tops in their 20s-30s
2016Co-Authors: Jiyoung LimAbstract:Abstract: This study helps out-size consumers purchase tops and improve the fitness of unde-weight women in their 20s-30s and by the establishment of a size System. The criteria for subjects in this study were those under 18.5(kg/m 2 of the BMI; subsequently, a total of 233 females were enrolled. The results were: First, the nominal size for female adult formal dress suggested by the KS standard is suggested in 20 sections. The sections for underweight women are 7, (34 women who accounted for 14.59 % out of 233 in total). The cover efficiency was 2.08 % (which was very low). Second, tests showed that the average difference between the reference part body size of 7 sections for underweight women in the normal size section of bust cir.- hip cir.- height, and KS standard, waist cir. among reference sizes was rather small in the case of a nominal size for long height. Therefore, there is a significant difference with size in the KS standard and a Sizing System proven improper for underweight woman. Third, the basic body sizes and reference body sizes were dif-ferent due to the size System establishment according to measurements of underweight subjects. The research findings suggest that it is necessary to understand underweight types according to bust girth and hip girth sizes that represent basic sizes as well as to design patterns that consider the underweight body shape characteristics when women's top

analysis of the facial anthropometric data of korean pilots for oxygen mask design

Background: It is important to design an oxygen mask based on facial anthropometric data of pilots in terms of wearing comfort, oxygen supply effectiveness, and safety. Method: Twenty two facial dimensions were selected from a literature review and an expert panel discussion. The faces of 284 Korean pilots and 52 female cadets were measured by the Martin's anthropometer and a 3D scanner. The facial anthropometric data of the Korean pilots were compared with those of Korean male civilians, US Army personnel, and US Air Force pilots. Results: The average face width of Korean male pilots was narrower than that of US Air Force pilots. The average face length of Korean pilots was longer than those of Korean male civilians and US Air Force pilots. The average lip width of Korean male pilots was wider than those of Korean male civilians and US Air Force pilots. The average head breadth of Korean male pilots was wider than those of Korean male civilians and US Army personnel, whereas the average head length of Korean male pilots was shorter than that of US Army personnel. Conclusion: The facial comparison results show that the Korean pilots are significantly different from those of Korean civilians, US Army personnel, and US Air Force pilots. Application: The identified facial features of Korean pilots would be applied to develop a proper Sizing System and an ergonomic design of an oxygen mask for Korean pilots.

대한인간공학회 학술대회논문집, 2011Co-Authors: Eunjin Jeon, Seikwon Park, Jeongrim JeongAbstract:Objective: The present study is to conduct a survey of the wearing characteristics of flight suits from current pilots and to design from this survey a new flight suit pattern suitable for the physical characteristics of Korean pilots. Background: It is important to design an flight suit based on anthropometric data of pilots in terms of wearing comfort, Movement, and safety. Method: A pool of 563 pilots was surveyed in order to analyze the wearing characteristics. In order to confirm the improved effects of the newly designed suit compared to the current one, an evaluation was conducted by assessing the subjective satisfaction and objective functionality through a measurement of the range of motion. Results: Results of the evaluation have shown that significant improvements have been made in the areas of suit that many of the respondents had indicated as being uncomfortable, such as neck circumference, armscye circumference, and crotch. This was achieved through increasing the ease in respective parts of the suit using anthropometric data of the pilot in the design process, thus correcting the pattern of the uncomfortable areas. The areas that showed the greatest improvements were the ones associated with lengthwise mobility; the fit and the mobility of the overall flight suits have ameliorated by a significant degree. Conclusion: The improved Sizing System using the Korean pilots’ anthropometric data was revealed that it accommodates 96% of Korean pilot population and provides better results of objective and subjective evaluations than those of the previous Sizing System. Application: The identified anthropometric features of Korean pilots would be applied to develop a proper Sizing System and an ergonomic design of an flight suit for Korean pilots.
