The Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice, 2013Co-Authors: Nelson BarberAbstract:To explore how marketing practices should be adapted to today's technology-driven culture, this study investigated the differences in the Socialization of gender and two generational cohorts, using the established Agents of parents, peers, and traditional mass media, in conjunction with the Internet as a potentially new and important Socialization Agent. The findings suggest that normative (parents, peers, and the Internet) influences affect Generation Y more than Generation X. Conversely, as this study found, informative influences of parents, traditional media, and in particular, the Internet affect Generation X. Furthermore, the findings show that the Internet is an important normative Socialization Agent influencing men, while it acts as an informative Socialization Agent for women.

This study aims to examine the understanding and concepts about the environment in Islamic Boarding School and the process of learning about religious values in the environment, but also want to know the implementation of the learning. Data collection was done first in-depth interviews to the Islamic Boarding School manager and the two primary data from the students (male and female). The study found that: First, most students perceived the concept of the environment and agreed to cleanliness association as part of faith. Secondly, a small percentage of male or female students are resistant to the environmental concept and their studies are inseparable from the existence of patriarchal culture carried on the contextual conditions that enclosed it, therefor the way of thinking, behaving is much influenced by the conditions in where they live. Third, the learning process associated with keeping the environment socialized through some yellow book recitation, outing class, artworks contest related to environmental hygiene and learning comfort, voluntary work. Fourth, most students agree to work once a week and agree on the existence of punishment if not participate in voluntary work. Fifth, actions by students associated with violations (cleanliness work), most of them proposed a fine or punishment. Keywords : Ecology, Islamic Boarding School, Punishment, Socialization

Adolescents’ financial literacy: The role of financial Socialization Agents, financial experiences, and money attitudes in shaping financial literacy among South Korean youth

GrableAbstract:The purpose of this study was to test the relationships between financial Socialization Agents, financial experiences, money attitudes, demographic characteristics, and the financial literacy of Korean adolescents. Using the 2006 Korean National Financial Literacy Test Survey for Adolescents (N = 1185), a series of regression analyses were performed to determine the factors related to financial literacy. It was found that those who chose media as their primary financial Socialization Agent, and those who had a bank account, exhibited higher levels of financial literacy. Among the sample, those who saw money as good or as a reward for efforts tended to report higher levels of financial literacy, while those perceiving money in terms of avoidance or achievement had lower levels of financial literacy. Students with mid-range monthly allowances showed higher levels of financial literacy compared to the highest allowance group. Implications for financial educators, policy makers, and researchers are provided.

Determinant of The Financial Literacy: Case Study on Career Woman in Indonesia

The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of demographic factors (i.e., marital status, education level, income, and age) and financial Socialization Agent on financial literacy. Using online and offline questionnaire survey from 100 respondents in Surabaya, East Java, and the study revealed that education level, personal income, and financial Socialization Agent, give the positive effect, while the marital status and age does not affect financial literacy. This result implies that the government can focus on educating the development and improvement of financial literacy for the society. It is believed to be a step forward in practicing financial planning from an early age to solve problems with financial management using financial knowledge, financial attitude, and financial behavior.
