Journal of Computer Applications, 2006Co-Authors: Chen TianziAbstract:A new hierarchical data structure was presented to maintain the Topological consistency between different LOD.Based on Bertolotto's seven atomic topological operators,the data structure was represented as a tree.The root node was used to store the coarsest level of the Spatial Entity.The height of the tree equaled with the levels.Except root node,the other nodes were also organized as trees with the height of two.The root nodes represented the atomic topological operator while the leaf nodes stored the Spatial Entity and topological relationships in an ordered sequence.The data structure can not only maintain topological consistency,but also promote the efficiency of Spatial Entity's reconstruction.It can be widely used in WebGIS applications.

Design: Conceived as an anatomical enhancement of the UMLS Semantic Network and Metathesaurus, the anatomical ontology was formulated by specifying defining attributes and differentia for classes and subclasses of physical anatomical entities based on their partitive and Spatial relationships. The validity of the classification was assessed by instantiating the ontology for the thorax. Several transitive relationships were used for symbolically modeling aspects of the physical organization of the thorax. Results: By declaring Organ as the macroscopic organizational unit of the body, and defining the entities that constitute organs and higher level entities constituted by organs, all anatomical entities could be assigned to one of three top level classes (Anatomical structure, Anatomical Spatial Entity and Body substance). The ontology accommodates both the systemic and regional (topographical) views of anatomy, as well as diverse clinical naming conventions of anatomical entities. Conclusions: The ontology formulated for the thorax is extendible to microscopic and cellular levels, as well as to other body parts, in that its classes subsume essentially all anatomical entities that constitute the body. Explicit definitions of these entities and their relationships provide the first requirement for standards in anatomical concept representation. Conceived from an anatomical viewpoint, the ontology can be generalized and mapped to other biomedical domains and problem solving tasks that require anatomical knowledge.

The influence of physical-geographical factors on planning and landscape design of the infrastructure corridor of highway route Belgrade - Novi Sad

Главни акценат је на изучавању односа пута и природе која је саставни део просторне целине којој аутопут припада. Рад има за циљ да укаже на важност изучавања физичко-географских фактора приликом изградње саобраћајнице, ради остваривања што безбеднијег саобраћаја. Посебан осврт је на климатске елементе, као не толико видљиве, али врло угрожавајуће факторе безбедности одвијања саобраћаја. Установљено је да се утицај климатских елемената може врло успешно контролисати вегетацијом, те је и ток истраживања био усмерен ка том правцу. Климатски подаци су преузети из CARPATCLIM базе, након чега се приступило њиховој евалуацији. Добијени резултати су потврђени израдом ЧЕК-ЛИСТИ на терену и графичком обрадом података у GIS софтверском програму.Потом тога је уследило и анкетно истраживање безбедности одвијања саобраћаја на аутопутевима у Србији, посматрано из угла возача. Резултати су обрађени у SPSS софтверском програму. На крају, истраживање је истакло деонице саобраћајног инфраструктурног коридора Београд – Нови Сад, најугроженије утицајима климатских елемената.Истакла се могућност ублажавања утицаја климатских елемената на безбедност одвијања саобраћаја предочавањем адекватног модела пејзажног уређења леве и десне стране коловоза пута.Istraživanje u ovom radu usmereno je na saobraćajni infrastrukturni koridor Beograd -Novi Sad, Srbija. Glavni akcenat je na izučavanju odnosa puta i prirode koja je sastavni deo prostorne celine kojoj autoput pripada. Rad ima za cilj da ukaže na važnost izučavanja fizičko-geografskih faktora prilikom izgradnje saobraćajnice, radi ostvarivanja što bezbednijeg saobraćaja. Poseban osvrt je na klimatske elemente, kao ne toliko vidljive, ali vrlo ugrožavajuće faktore bezbednosti odvijanja saobraćaja. Ustanovljeno je da se uticaj klimatskih elemenata može vrlo uspešno kontrolisati vegetacijom, te je i tok istraživanja bio usmeren ka tom pravcu. Klimatski podaci su preuzeti iz CARPATCLIM baze, nakon čega se pristupilo njihovoj evaluaciji. Dobijeni rezultati su potvrđeni izradom ČEK-LISTI na terenu i grafičkom obradom podataka u GIS softverskom programu.Potom toga je usledilo i anketno istraživanje bezbednosti odvijanja saobraćaja na autoputevima u Srbiji, posmatrano iz ugla vozača. Rezultati su obrađeni u SPSS softverskom programu. Na kraju, istraživanje je istaklo deonice saobraćajnog infrastrukturnog koridora Beograd – Novi Sad, najugroženije uticajima klimatskih elemenata.Istakla se mogućnost ublažavanja uticaja klimatskih elemenata na bezbednost odvijanja saobraćaja predočavanjem adekvatnog modela pejzažnog uređenja leve i desne strane kolovoza puta.The research in this paper focuses on the highway corridor Belgrade - Novi Sad, Serbia. The main issue is relationship between the highway and surrounding nature, as an integral part of the Spatial Entity which the highway belongs to. In order to achieve high level of the traffic safety, the paper emphasizes a high importance of studying the physical-geographical factors in the process of highway construction. Particular attention was directed to, not so visible, but very endangering factors of road safety - climate elements. It was found that the influence of climate elements is strong and it could be successfully controlled by vegetation. Data were taken from CARPATCLIM database and their evaluation was confirmed by obtained field data in CHEK-LISTS and by data evaluation in GIS. This was followed by a survey on the traffic safety of the highways in Serbia,from the driver's aspect of view. Results were processed in the SPSS. Finally, the research emphasized the most endangered sections of the traffic infrastructure corridor Belgrade - Novi Sad,affected by the climate elements. Landscape design of left and right side of the highway has been highlighted as a possibility of mitigating the influence of climate elements

The paper emphasizes a high importance of studying the physical-geographical factors in the process of highway construction in order to achieve high level of traffic safety. Particular attention was directed to climate elements - the factors that are not so visible, but still may pose a great risk to road safety. Data were taken from CARPATCLIM database and their evaluation was confirmed by the data obtained from CHEK-LISTS. It was found that the climate elements have a strong influence, but it can be successfully controlled by vegetation. Landscape design of both sides of the highway may offer a possibility of mitigating the influence of climate elements, which was also pointed out in the paper

Spatial Entity matching with geoalign demo paper

Cartographic providers usually represent these POI with a Spatial Entity. However, the description of these entities may significantly vary from one provider to another (e.g., missing properties, outdated information, conflicting values). Spatial Entity matching (or record linkage) aims at detecting correspondences between entities referring to the same POI. Most existing approaches have a fixed function for combining similarity measures, thus limiting customization. Besides, evaluating the matching quality is a difficult task since a ground truth dataset cannot be built for all entities and providers. In this paper, we describe GeoAlign, an application that allows fine-grained tuning for Spatial Entity matching. A merging step is also provided using different strategies. Finally, we propose to estimate the quality of correspondences based on the differences between combination functions and to visualize this estimation in GeoAlign.

LBS providers use maps to locate Spatial entities referring to points of interest (POI), for instance restaurants or locations of events. In our study, we specifically focus on places that tourists can get through LBS. The multiplication of these providers has an impact on the quality of data: Spatial entities referring to the same POI may include Spatial and terminological properties with incomplete, inconsistent, inaccurate or even wrong data. Thus, Entity matching approaches have been proposed to discover correspondences between Spatial entities, and experimental validations are traditionally performed to demonstrate the performance of these approaches in terms of effectiveness and efficiency. However, the datasets used in these experiments are rarely available, thus limiting their reuse and a fair comparison between the proposed approaches. This paper introduces PABench, a benchmark for Spatial Entity matching, which is available for researchers to assess their algorithms. Our benchmark includes a taxonomy of observed differences, inconsistencies and errors, which enables the characterization of different LBS providers. PABench can provide a complete and accurate evaluation of the different aspects of Spatial Entity matching approaches, and also facilitate an understanding of their weaknesses and abilities with respect to Spatial integration. This paper provides a conceptual platform to enable LBS interoperability.

Multiple cartographic providers propose their visualization tool for displaying points of interests. However, the data describing Spatial entities is often incomplete and contradictory from one provider to another, thus limiting further applications such as geoSpatial data mining. Recent works in Entity matching tackle this issue by discovering correspondences between Spatial entities that refer to the same real world location. To evaluate and compare these works, we propose GeoBench, a tool which facilitates the building of a benchmark for Spatial Entity matching.
