  • biotransformation of β myrcene by the larvae of common cutworm Spodoptera litura
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2000
    Co-Authors: Mitsuo Miyazawa, Takeshi Murata
    Abstract:

β-Myrcene was mixed in an artificial diet at a concentration of 1 mg/g of diet, and the diet was fed to the last instar larvae of common cutworm (Spodoptera litura). Metabolites were recovered from frass and analyzed spectroscopically. β-Myrcene was transformed mainly to myrcene-3(10)-glycol and myrcene-1,2-glycol. Each pair of double bonds of β-myrcene was converted to the corresponding diol by oxidation, respectively. The 3,10- and 1,2-double bonds of β-myrcene were respectively oxidized. Keywords: Common cutworm; Spodoptera litura; biotransformation; β-myrcene; myrcene-3(10)-glycol; myrcene-1,2-glycol

  • Biotransformation of (+)- and (-)-menthol by the larvae of common cutworm (Spodoptera litura).
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 1999
Co-Authors: Mitsuo Miyazawa, Shingo Kumagae, Hiromu Kameoka
    Abstract:

(+)-Menthol was mixed in an artificial diet at a concentration of 1 mg/g of diet, and the diet was fed to the last instar larvae of common cutworm (Spodoptera litura). Metabolites were recovered from frass and analyzed spectroscopically. (+)-Menthol was transformed mainly to (+)-7-hydroxymenthol. Similarly, (−)-menthol was transformed mainly to (−)-7-hydroxymenthol. The C-7 position of (+)- and (−)-menthol was preferentially oxidized. Keywords: Common cutworm; Spodoptera litura; biotransformation; menthol; (+)-7-hydroxymenthol; (−)-7-hydroxymenthol

  • Biotransformation of (+)- and (-)-Limonene by the Larvae of Common Cutworm (Spodoptera litura).
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 1998
Co-Authors: Mitsuo Miyazawa, Takashi Wada, Hiromu Kameoka
    Abstract:

(+)-Limonene was mixed in an artificial diet at a concentration of 1 mg/g of diet, and the diet was fed to the last instar larvae of common cutworm (Spodoptera litura). Metabolites were recovered from frass and analyzed spectroscopically. (+)-Limonene was transformed mainly to (+)-p-menth-1-ene-8,9-diol (uroterpenol) and (+)-p-mentha-1,8-dien-7-oic acid (perillic acid). Similarly, (−)-limonene was transformed mainly to (−)-p-menth-1-ene-8,9-diol (uroterpenol) and (−)-p-mentha-1,8-dien-7-oic acid (perillic acid). The results indicate that there is little difference in metabolic pathway between the (+)- and (−)-forms. Keywords: Common cutworm; Spodoptera litura; biotransformation; limonene; uroterpenol; perillic acid

  • UJI EFEKTIVITAS EKSTRAK DAUN MIMBA (azadirachta indica Juss) TERHADAP MORTALITAS ULAT GRAYAK (Spodoptera litura) SEBAGAI SUMBER BELAJAR BIOLOGI
    2019
    Co-Authors: Yunardi, Atsrul Mawahib
    Abstract:

Farmers rely heavily on the use of synthetic chemical pesticides. Unwise use of synthetic insecticides can cause adverse side effects, as well as the occurrence of pest resistance, resurgence and environmental pollution. One of the plants that can be used as organic insecticide is the Mimba leaf. Many Mimba leaves contain active ingredients of azadiraktin, Salanin, Meliantriol and Nimbin. Mimba leaves can be an alternative to organic pesticide making materials. The study aims to determine the effectiveness of Mimba leaf extract (Azadirachta indica Juss) against the mortality of Caterpillar Grayak (Spodoptera litura) and its utilization as a source of learning biology. This type of research is True experimental research. This research sample is the larvae of Spodoptera litura. The sampling techniques used are simple random sampling. This research was conducted in laboratory of Muhammadiyah Malang University. Research was conducted on 13-18 may 2019. The results of the research on the effectiveness of Mimba leaf extract (Azadirachta indica Juss.) to the mortality of Worm Grayak (Spodoptera litura) showed significantly there was an influence of Mimba leaf extract (Azadirachta indica Juss) against the morphology of the caterpillar Grayak (Spodoptera litura). Centrality which has the highest level of Grayak (Spodoptera litura) Caterpillar mortality is at a concentration of 25%. Abstract:

Farmers take control of Spodoptera litura using chemical pesticides that can stick to plants, but farmers have not used organic pesticides in pest control. The use of organic pesticides needs to be maximized by farmers with proper concentration. This study aims to determine the influence of various concentrations of basil leaf extract (Ocimum sanctum) against the mortality of Spodoptera litura. This type of research is true experimental research. The total sample of 480 tail Spodoptera litura instar II, which is divided into 6 treatment groups is 0%, 25%, 35%, 45%, 55%, and 65% with 4 times the repetition. The sampling techniques used are simple random sampling. Research conducted in the Biology Laboratory of Muhammadiyah Malang University. The study took place on 23-27 December 2019. Analyze data with Anova's one-line test and difference of real-life distance of Duncan (BJND) to. The results showed that there was the influence of the most effective basil leaf extract concentration for Spodoptera litura is a concentration of 65% with an average mortality of 18.2 (91.25%).
