Clinical application of Collagen Sponge Artificial dermis in repairing the wound after skin squamous cell carcinoma resection
Chinese Journal of Aesthetic Medicine, 2013Co-Authors: Zhang Xin-jianAbstract:Objective To study the effect of Collagen Sponge Artificial dermis in repairing deep skin and soft tissue deficiency after skin squamous cell carcinoma resection.Methods A total of 11 patients with skin squamous cell carcinoma of lower limb from our ward were selected.All patients had a certain pathological diagnosis before surgery.We used non-neoplasma touch technology all through the surgery.After the debridement,we removaled the cortex of the exposed bone,and sutured the Collagen Sponge Artificial dermis on the wound,fixed the Artificial dermis with continuous negative pressure equipment for 21days(observe the wound condition per 7days),and then did the autologous split-thickness skin transplantation.Results There were 5 patients with tibia exposure and 3 patients with tendon exposure after the Squamous carcinoma resection.After using the Collagen Sponge Artificial dermis for 21days,the exposed tissues were covered by the fast-growing granulation tissues,all of them received the skin transplantation then,and the wounds healed well after several days.Conclusions The effect of Collagen Sponge Artificial dermis in repairing deep skin and soft tissue defect after skin squamous cell carcinoma resection is good,and it is easy to be handled.The treatment is less damage and the scar of both wound and donor site are subtle so it is good for the late carcinoma treatment.

It is composed of two different kinds of collagen; fibrillar and heat-denatured collagen, which are freeze-dried to form a Sponge-like structure. These modifications reduce the inflammatory response and increase cellular affinity.We have been using this Artificial dermis in an out patient clinic and in this study, we investigated the effectiveness of this material for repairing tympanic membrane defects and external auditory canal skin defects.The findings show that the rate of successful repair was 90.9% (20/22 ears) for tympanic membrane defects, and 100% (7/7 ears) for external auditory canal skin defects. We consider this Artificial dermis to be very useful for middle ear operations in outpatients settings.
