This higher amount of lactic acid might be considered as the end product of anaerobic metabolism. The pyruvic acid level of the parasitic proglottides remained lower than lactate level. The intermediary carbohydrate metabolites, viz. lactate, pyruvate and the lactate/pyruvate ratio being indicators of high rate metabolism, their levels may notably infer the metabolic status of the parasite and also the interaction between the parasite species Stilesia globipunctata and the sheep host.

Intestines of 462 sheep and 48 goats were examined; 47.4% of sheep and 6.2% of goats were infected. The species identified and their prevalence were, among sheep, Avitellina centripunctata 38.7%, Moniezia expansa 15.4%, Stilesia globipunctata 16.7%, and Thysaniezia ovilla 0.4%. Among goats, they were M. expansa 6.2% and T. ovilla 2.1%. The prevalence of all species was not statistically different between dry and rainy seasons. The infections were single or multiple. Indeed, 56.2% of sheep were infected by a single species, 37.4% by two species, and 6.4% by three species. For goats, 66.7% were infected by M. expansa and 33.3% by both M. expansa and T. ovilla. Scanning electron microscopic (SEM) observations of tapeworms show the general diagnosis characters of these species.

Asian Journal of Biological Sciences, 2013Co-Authors: Sanjay Shamrao Nanware, Dhanraj Balbhim BhureAbstract:The present work was carried out to study the histopathological changes in the intestine of Capra hircus , naturally infected with the Anoplocephalidean cestode, Stilesia pandeyae . It has been seen that the cestode Stilesia pandeyae approach the villi floating in the lumen, some worms are seen attached to the tissues of the intestine, the villi of crypts of liberkuhn are ruptured, destructed and shifted apart by the penetrating the worm. Not much effort is put by the parasite to survive in the intestine and the scolex is not so much helpful. It seems that the environment of the intestine is quite favourable for the worm Stilesia Railliet, 1893 which is rich in protein, glucose and fat content. So the worm finds it easy to absorb the same through tegument for growth and nourishment.

Latur (M.S.) India. The present form comes closer to all the known valid species of this genus in general topography of organs but differs due to some characters i.e . Scolex rectangular, suckers four, large, muscular, arranged in two groups, neck long, mature proglottids 8 times broader than long, testes small, arranged in two groups, 4 in each groups, genital pore marginal, regularly alternate, vagina anterior to cirrus pouch, ovary compact and cylindrical.
