A Stimulus-Response Model of day-to-day network dynamics
IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, 2005Co-Authors: Ming-chorng HwangAbstract:A general structure of Stimulus-Response formula is presented to specify the interacted network dynamics under the assumption of a daily learning and adaptive travel behavior. By taking the time derivative of system variable as a response term, the evolution is formulated as a dynamic system. Issues of existence, uniqueness, and stability for the proposed differential equations are briefly discussed. Approximation of a time-varying route-choice Model is derived from the addressed path-flow dynamics. Threshold effects on path-flow dynamics are encapsulated into the proposed general structure by incorporating a discontinuous stimulus term. Then, the quasi user equilibrium is achieved when all users feel indifferent between the experienced and predicted travel time provided by intelligent transportation systems, i.e., the whole system dynamics stay within a bounded range. The derived quasi user equilibrium is reduced to Wardrop's user equilibrium as the threshold effects of path-flow dynamics vanish.

By taking the time derivative of system variable as a reaction in Stimulus-Response equation the evolution of whole system is formulated as a dynamical system. Issue of stability for the proposed differential equations are briefly discussed. Approximation of time dependent route-choice Model is derived from the addressed path flow dynamics. The threshold effect on path flow dynamics is developed in term of defining a discontinuous stimulus. Quasi user equilibrium is researched to be a steady state when all users feel indifferent between experienced travel time and predicted travel time provided by Advanced Traveler Information Systems. The proposed quasi user equilibrium is reduced to Wardrop's user equilibrium if threshold effect is vanishing.

PIMRC - Information theory based region of interest extraction scheme with perceptual Stimulus-Response Model

However, most of them are complex and time-consuming. To solve this problem, a video ROI extraction algorithm based on information theory and cognitive features is proposed in this paper. Based on the information theory, the spatial and temporal information are computed to measure the spatial and temporal content of video sequences respectively. Utilizing the visual features fusion strategy (VFFS), visual information is obtained from the combination of spatial and temporal information. Then, perceptual Stimulus-Response Model (PSRM) is established to map the visual information to match the visual saliency. Regions with saliency scores, which are higher than a self-adaptive threshold, are regarded as ROIs. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme reduces 50% computation complexity, and can extract ROI more effective compared to Itti's method. Furthermore, the proposed ROI extraction scheme can be easily applied in the practical multimedia processing and pattern recognition system, such as video summarization.

Moderate to vigorous physical activity was only inversely associated with mean glucose (mmol/L; beta=−0.002; 95% CI −0.00250 to −0.00058; P=.002). CONCLUSIONS Evidence of an acute Stimulus-Response Model was observed between sedentary time, physical activity, and glucose variability in low fitness individuals, with sedentary time and light activity conferring the most consistent changes in glucose variability. Further work is required to investigate the coupling of movement behaviors and glucose responses in larger samples and whether providing these rich data sources as feedback could induce lifestyle behavior change.
