  • a web based decision support system for intermodal port and dry port facilities
    Journal of Transportation Technologies, 2017
Co-Authors: Chrysostomos D Stylios, George Georgoulas, Petros Karvelis, Branislav Opacic, Fabrizio Simeoni, Srecko Maksimovic, Walter Gerreto
    Abstract:

This paper presents a Web-based Decision Support System (Web-DSS) that was designed and developed to support and provide suggestions on the procedures taking place between a port and a dry port, which have to collaborate, work concurrently and optimize their joint operation. The system operates at the highest hierarchical Level supervising a number of different components dealing with three different time scale horizons so as to provide assistance at operational, tactical and Strategic Level. The Web-based DSS coordinates and integrates the subsystems operating at lower Levels and it interfaces with all the involved actors: customers, suppliers, relevant authorities so as to receive all the necessary information to come up with “optimal” suggestions and decisions. In this paper, the overall architecture is presented and the individual modules are described.

  • a decision support system for airport Strategic planning
Transportation Research Part C-emerging Technologies, 2004
Co-Authors: Miltiadis A Stamatopoulos, Konstantinos G Zografos, Amedeo R Odoni
    Abstract:

This paper describes an integrated set of models for the estimation of the capacity of an airfield and the associated delays. The aim is to develop a decision support tool suitable for airport planning at the Strategic Level. Thus, the emphasis is on obtaining reliable approximations to the quantities of interest quickly and with a limited set of inputs. The models account for the dynamic characteristics of airfield capacity and demand, as well as for some stochastic aspects of airfield operations. They are sensitive to airfield geometry, the operational characteristics of the airfield and of the local air traffic control system, and the characteristics of the local air traffic demand for airport access and services. Through its integrated structure, the decision support tool can account for interactions among operations at different parts of the airfield.

  • data analytics in operations management a review
    Social Science Research Network, 2019
Co-Authors: Velibor V Misic, Georgia Perakis
    Abstract:

Research in operations management has traditionally focused on models for understanding, mostly at a Strategic Level, how firms should operate. Spurred by the growing availability of data and recent advances in machine learning and optimization methodologies, there has been an increasing application of data analytics to problems in operations management. In this paper, we review recent applications of data analytics to operations management, in three major areas -- supply chain management, revenue management and healthcare operations -- and highlight some exciting directions for the future.

  • analysis of pavement condition survey data for effective implementation of a network Level pavement management program for kazakhstan
    Sustainability, 2019
Co-Authors: Antonio Pantuso, Giuseppe Loprencipe, Guido Bonin, Bagdat Teltayev
    Abstract:

Pavement roads and transportation systems are crucial assets for promoting political stability, as well as economic and sustainable growth in developing countries. However, pavement maintenance backlogs and the high capital costs of road rehabilitation require the use of pavement evaluation tools to assure the best value of the investment. This research presents a methodology for analyzing the collected pavement data for the implementation of a network Level pavement management program in Kazakhstan. This methodology, which could also be suitable in other developing countries’ road networks, focuses on the survey data processing to determine cost-effective maintenance treatments for each road section. The proposed methodology aims to support a decision-making process for the application of a Strategic Level business planning analysis, by extracting information from the survey data.
