The availability of food in schools is extremely important, especially in developing countries, such as Chad. This activity allows schoolchildren to eat in order to remain focused during classes and have better results, to raise the level of education in Chad, and to consequently develop the economy of the country. The quality of foods sold in schools has been little researched so far in Chad. The objective of the study conducted in N'Djamena, Chad, was to assess the level of food safety and hygiene on the one hand, and to identify the diversity and quality of the foods that are provided by vendors in private primary schools on the other, in order to reveal gaps and guide recommendations. The study conducted from May to June 2018 included 45 vendors located within 10 schools and 10 administrators of private primary schools located in N'Djamena. The level of hygiene, the diversity and the quality of foods was evaluated using observations and a questionnaire administered to vendors based on an instrument and framework previously used to evaluate street foods vendors in Chad. An interview was conducted with school administrators to evaluate their knowledge and perceptions about the hygiene, diversity and quality of foods sold at their school. Our study found that 86.7% of vendors were women, 81.9% were aged between 18 to 40, 64.4% were married, and 35.6% had no formal education. In terms of sanitation and hygiene, 77.8% of sales took place on an unsanitary table, 6.7% near garbage cans, 2.2% near latrines and 4.4% near gutters. Furthermore, 64.4% of food sales took place under sun exposure, 77.8% in the open air with the presence of flies (55.6%), Stray Animals (20%) and pests (26.7%). As for the dress code and hygiene of the salesmen, most wore their own city outfit (95.6%), practices for hand hygiene were not followed by 62.2%, 73.3% did not have their nails well-kept and 97.8% did not practice any medical follow-up on a regular basis. With regard to utensils and hand washing, only 53.3% reported washing utensils after each use and most did not offer any individual or collective device for hand washing. For diversity, the following food groups were found in all the schools studied: cereals, pulses, dairy products, fruits and vegetables, tubers, meat, fish, pastries and beverages, and sweet drinks. Observations indicates that the sale of cereals took place in eight schools out of ten, legumes were sold in nine schools, dairy products in six, fruits and vegetables in nine, tubers, seafood and meat products in seven, beverages in eight, candy and sweets in six schools, and baked goods in all of schools. Regarding food preparation, the majority of food sold is prepared in a traditional way. However, for salty foods, sellers tended to add powdered flavors (Maggi cube) in their preparations, and use sweet powders to make juices. These additions are all considered ultra-processed products and are associated to poor diet quality and adverse effects on health. The results of this school-based study showed that, overall, the safety and hygiene of the foods offered are not adequate, whereas there is a relatively good diversity in the food supply, despite the use of various ultra-processed products in culinary preparations. Measures should be taken to address health and hygiene issues, but also to maintain diversity and to educate sellers about methods of preparation and the use of healthy ingredients to avoid ultra-processed products. It would be important to conduct a comprehensive and systemic assessment of the safety and quality of food and cooking offered by school vendors, both to ensure the health of schoolchildren and to ensure its importance in the local econom

'Dipartimento di Economia Universita di Perugia (IT)', 2019Co-Authors: Deiver Alexander, Marcelo Rodríguez.Abstract:ABSTRACT The main objective of this thesis is to contribute to the solution of the proliferation of Stray domestic Animals, in this way we will no longer have abandoned Animals roaming the streets causing health problems and bites or attacks on the population. To this end, the architectural design of an Integral Attention and Refugee Center for Domestic Animals in a state of neglect and street in the Province of Trujillo is proposed; whose objective is to determine how passive acoustic comfort criteria influence the design of the architectural object. For this, the research uses information relevant to the analysis of the variable, the techniques used in this investigation were the collection of case analysis and the preparation of their respective files, analysis of theoretical bases, taking into account research principles and different tools linked to the variable. Passive acoustic comfort criteria are very important as a sustainable tool, noise is considered a very important environmental factor that seriously affects the quality of life of people. In this way, with the study of the variable it is possible to determine that the acoustic wellbeing that intervenes in people is achieved when the acoustic conditions are adequate for health and the activity that takes place in a certain space. Likewise, product of the investigation determines that the veterinary attention of quality has many similarities with the medical attention for the people. For this, several studies have made known the benefits that can be obtained in healthy acoustic environments; the main benefit is to improve the quality of sleep in people, likewise reduce the blood pressure of blood in the body and generate a lower level of stress; conceiving a satisfaction in the work performance, managing to increase the emotional well-being in people. The present architectural fact will be located in the outskirts of Trujillo, in this case in a land in the Sector Barraza, in the District of Laredo, the land has the conditions and with the sufficient area to build the Center of Integral Attention and refuge of Stray Animals. Finally, the results determined the direct relationship that the study variable has to apply to the project, obtaining different design criteria to design an infrastructure of Animals according to the needs of the user, which in this case is proposed for the Province of Trujillo.

Information Needs of Women Subsistence Farmers in a Village in KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa
'UNISA Press', 2020Co-Authors: Zimu-biyela, Acquinatta Nomusa, Van Der Walt Thomas, Dube LuyandaAbstract:This article reports on findings of a study that was conducted to establish the information needs of women subsistence or smallholder farmers and the various information sources they consulted to resolve their information needs. The study was qualitative, and a grounded theory design was used. Focus group interviews and observation were used to collect data from 14 women crop farmers and three women livestock keepers. The farmer-to-farmer extension (FFE) model was adopted to understand the information-seeking behaviours of women farmers and how they can be improved, if need be. The findings revealed that while the women crop farmers needed help with seeds, soil treatment and the protection of crops from pests and Stray Animals, they needed more information on drought preparedness and management, and, on how to transform from subsistence to commercial farming. Women livestock keepers needed information on livestock feeds, the treatment of various ailments, and disaster preparedness and management. In addition, they needed the reintegration of the extension officer. It also transpired that local libraries were not responding to the information needs of farmers. The main source of information was oral communication. The use of radio, television, cell phones and extension officers was limited. This study echoes other studies which propose it is important that libraries, non-government organisations (NGOs) and extension officers respond to the information needs of smallholder farmers, especially women.Information Scienc

Animals Rights Code : What the Draft Law States
'Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona', 2019Co-Authors: Pittalis MargheritaAbstract:The draft law, called "Code on the protection of pets" by the Italian deputy Michela Brambilla has been proposed to the Italian Chamber of Deputies on March 23, 2018. This draft law is the results of several precious legislative proposal, made by the above-mentioned deputy, concerning various aspects about Animals' protection and prevention of Stray Animals' phenomenon in a way desirably more effective than previous law n.281/1991 provided. The goals this latter provision fixed have not been achieved at all. The "Brambilla Code", as the draft laws is renamed, composed by 50 articles aims at solving the problem of kennels' overcrowding and poor hygiene conditions kennels rage on, together with the problematical increase of pets abandoning caused by several factors, such as, the unconsciousness and lack of care people have when it comes to adopt or have in custody a pet, or problems caused by the fact that pets are often not allowed to access public transports and areas. Broadly speaking, the draft law aims at spreading a different sensitiveness about care people take for their pets which are more and more involved in people daily life. The draft, in fact, comes up with a full-fledged status for pets, claiming them to be "sentient living beings" and to have a full-fledged "right to wellness" with due respect of their biological and ethological features.
