  • Comparison of gdh sequences of Streptococcus suis type 2 isolated from human and pig
Chinese Journal of Public Health, 2010
    Co-Authors: Pang Xing-lin
    Abstract:

Objective To study the difference of gdh gene seqences between Streptococcus suis type 2 isolated from human and pig and the reference sequence in order to detect Streptococcus suis type 2.Methods A pair of primers was designed with the aid of NCBI and literatures, and then the aimed gene was amplified with PCR.After purified, the amplified products were cloned to pMD19-T vector and sequenced. Results The gdh gene sequences of Streptococcus suis type 2 isolated from human and pig were so conserved that just two bases were different. They were found to be identical except one base difference with reference sequence analyzed by DNAstar program. The gdh gene sequences of Streptococcus suis type 2 isolated from human is T but the reference is C at the position 828.The gdh gene sequences of Streptococcus suis type 2 isolated from pig is C but the reference is T at the position 662.Conclusion The gdh gene sequences of Streptococcus suis type 2 isolated from human and pig are highly conservative.

  • A multiplex PCR assay application in identification of Streptococcus suis type 2
Chinese Journal of Public Health, 2009
    Co-Authors: Pang Xing-lin
    Abstract:

ObjectiveTo develop a rapid identification method for Streptococcus suis type 2 with multiplex PCR assay.MethodsAccording to specific sequence of Streptococcus suis type 2,two pairs of multiplex PCR primers were designed for Streptococcus suis amplification and identification. Then the amplification conditions were optimized.ResultsThe aim gene fragment for 17 isolates and 1 reference of Streptococcus suis type 2 were amplified with multiplex PCR assay, but it could not be amplified for 6 other reference bacteria.ConclusionThe multiplex PCR assay could be used to identify and provide a new methodology for Streptococcus suis type 2 identification.

  • Isolation and identification of a strain of Streptococcus suis and its drug sensitivity test
Chinese Journal of Public Health, 2006
    Co-Authors: Li Jingji
    Abstract:

Objective To report the results of microbiological examination and drug sensitivity test of Streptococcus suis type Ⅱ fulminant infection in swine in Jilin province in spring of 2005.Methods From ill or dead pigs, suspicious strains of Streptococcus suis were isolated. These strains were identified as Streptococcus suis type Ⅱ bated on the results of Gram staining and microscopy, and slide agglutination test with specific diagnostic antiserum. Results The isotates of Streptococus suis type Ⅱ were sensitive to five of the tested antibiotics such as Ampicillin and were resistant to six of the tested antibiotics such as gentamycin. Conclusion By disinfection of breeding environment and feed, isolation of the ill pigs,Ampicillin and Rifampicin used as their apeutic drugs, the fulminant epidemic of Streptococcus suis type Ⅱ was successfully controlled and non of the persons was infected with the microbe.

  • Streptococcus suis meningitis in the Netherlands
    The Journal of infection, 2008
Co-Authors: Diederik Van De Beek, Lodewijk Spanjaard, Jan De Gans
    Abstract:

We present four patients with Streptococcus suis meningitis identified during a 3.5-year prospective surveillance study in the Netherlands. All cases were associated with exposure to pigs. Patients presented with classic symptoms and signs of bacterial meningitis. Outcome was characterized by severe hearing loss. Physicians should be aware of occupational exposure with S. suis and risk of meningitis associated with this pathogen.

  • EPIDEMIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS AND PREVENTION OF THREE HUMAN CASES OF Streptococcus suis INFECTION IN JIANGYAN
    Modern Preventive Medicine, 2009
Co-Authors: Wang Hongjun, Qin Caizhen, Zhang Xiao
    Abstract:

[Objective] To research on the infection source and spread way of Streptococcus suis Infection,so as to provide prevention and control strategies.[Methods] By epidemiological methods, all patients and their family were investigated. The clinical data were checked and related laboratory tests were performed.[Results] Three cases were infected with pigs Streptococcus disease. It is the first outbreak of Streptococcus suis in Jiangyan. After timely rescue, all of them were recovery.[Conclusion] It is necessary to strengthen monitoring of pig disease to effectively control pig disease.Correctly handling illness died pig,and strengthening prevention for slaughtering and processing for staff is the effective way to prevent the spread of Streptococcus suis.
