    Cross Country meet statisticsHead Coach: Kyle KeplerCross CountryLed by true freshman Ashley Licata, the Utah cross country team finished in fourth place; leading the pack for Utah was freshman Ashley Licata. In her first collegiate race, Licata finished the five-kilometer course in a time of 18:01.28 to claim sixth overall. Junior Sadie Wassum followed behind Licata placing 11th in a time of 18:21:03. Junior Shaylen Crook recorded a time of 18:22.98 to capture 13th place. Rounding out the top-five team scores for Utah were senior Kate Stringfellow and freshman Jade Mulvey. Stringfellow finished in 19th-place in time of 18:30.96 and Mulvey placed 29th in a time of 18:49.88. Junior Becky Sarmiento, junior Dakota Grossman, sophomore Caitlin Faust, freshman Nicole Griffiths, and sophomore Megan Spehar also competed for the Utes. Sarmiento earned 33rd with a time of 18:59.50, Grossman placed 37th in a time of 19:03.94, Faust finished in 43rd place in a time of 19:16.54, while Griffiths recorded 46th-place in a time of 19:25.18 and Spehar finshed in 56th place in a time of 20:27.90. Boise State finished in first place, followed by Utah State in second, while Southern Utah placed third ahead of the Utes. Dana Snell earned ninth after recording a time of 18:31.67. Redshirt freshman Claire MacMillan also made her collegiate debut after redshirting the 2014 season due to injury. MacMillan posted a time of 19:05.05 to claim 16th. Finishing first was Utah State and Westminster placed third.Ute Cross Country Captures Second at USU Aggie Invitational Sept. 5, 2015 LOGAN, Utah- Led by the performance of redshirt senior Susannah Hurst (Spencer), the Utah cross country team captured second overall as the Utes kicked off the 2015 season at the Utah State Aggie Invitational. "It was a very good day," Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. "I thought that everyone gave great efforts and I think that we will keep getting better and stronger as the season moves forward. We probably had a few kids be a little bit too aggressive at the beginning, but I am not going to fault anybody for being too aggressive and excited." Leading the charge for the Utes was Hurst, who was competing in her first race after redshirting last season. She finished the five-kilometer course in a time of 18:01.40 to claim third overall. "I am excited to come back home and run at Murray Park," Kepler stated. "It will be interesting to see how we are able to progress and get better there. We will probably have a few more of our top runners in the lineup, but will still not have everybody. It should be a good race. We are expecting Boise State, UVU and Westminster and will probably have a handful of individual, unattached kids as well. We might have some of our better kids race, but it might just be as a workout instead of an actual race.

The Utes wrapped up their annual home meet with seven runners in the top 20, including four runners in the top 10. Spencer finished the four-kilometer course in a time of 15:15.4 to claim second overall. Crossing the line fourth overall was junior Jessica Sams in a time of 15:22.5. Jocelyn Todd followed closely in her footsteps in fifth, recording a time of 15:28.9. Rounding out the top runners for Utah was Andrea Chavez and Dana Snell. Chavez finished with a time of 15:45.3 to earn tenth and Snell claimed 12th after posting a time of 15:51.5. Other noticeable finishes for the Utes include Becky Sarmiento (16th, 16:05.2), Makenzie Clark (19th, 16:23.1) and Kate Stringfellow (21st, 16:25.4).     Track & Field meet statisticsInaugural event at McCarthey Family Track & Field; Head Coach: Kyle KeplerTrack & FieldHosting the first meet on campus in over thirty years, the University of Utah women's track and field team posted a strong performance in the inaugural event at the McCarthey Family Track and Field Friday. Getting the day off to a quick start for the Utes was junior Anneli Stahl in the hammer throw. Stahl led the team with her second-place mark of 178-4.50 feet. Junior Nikkie Rudder finished second for the Utes and fourth overall after setting a new 10 foot personal record throw of 171-2.75 feet. Destanae Howerton-Davis and Lindsay John finished sixth and 12th overall, respectively. The shot put event featured the Utes capturing three of the top-five spots. Rudder led the charge finishing first with a throw of 47-3.75 feet. Earning third place was Alanna Nulph recording a mark of 44-11.00. Candus Aiello posted a fourth-place mark of 44-9.75 for the Utes. Making her final appearance in front of the home crowd was senior Brianna LeRoy. The high jump featured LeRoy dominating the field clearing the first-place mark of 5-7.00 feet. LeRoy also tried to clear the 5-10 barrier, but came up just shy of what would be a new personal record. In the long jump, she also was ahead of the field, recording a first-place jump of 19-4.75 feet. True freshman Andrea Chavez set a new personal record in the 800m finishing first place. Chavez outlasted fellow teammate Amanda Mergaert down the final 100m to capture first place, recording a time of 2:07.64. Mergaert finished second overall with a time of 2:08.36. Angela Kaplar fired out of the starting blocks to take a quick lead and never looked back in the 100m hurdles. Kaplar posted a dominating performance, recording a season best time of 13.81 seconds to finishing first overall. The distance events showcased freshman Macee Nielson finishing second place with a 5000m time of 18:13.09. Earning fourth place was Katelyn Stringfellow clocking a time of 18:37.51.     Track & Field meet statisticsHead Coach: Kyle KeplerTrack & FieldAfter the first day, Susannah Hurst finished first in the 3000m race, while Klaudia Rokossa won the pole vault. In her first collegiate race, Hurst controlled the 3000m event from start to finish. Hurst posted a time of 9:59.51 to finish first place. AuraLea Fain was the second Ute to cross the line and sixth overall with a time of 10:34.23. Katelyn Stringfellow earned ninth place with a time of 10:50.58. Rokossa dominated the pole vault posting a mark of 12-7.50. Rokossa's performance was two inches shy of her lifetime-best jump. Senior Brianna LeRoy finished third place in the pentathlon with 3,654 points. Suzie Vozarova set a personal-record with 2,910 points earning fourth place. Anneli Stahl led the way for the Utes in the weight throw. Stahl finished fourth with a mark of 56-11.25. Performing in her hometown, Nikkie Rudder finished sixth with a throw of 53-4.25. The Utes finish the Boise State Open with a combined five event titles. In her first collegiate race, Andrea Chavez clocked the second best one-mile time in school history with 4:52.55. Chavez earned second place and set a personal-best by over 23 seconds. In the 800m race, the Utes earned the top-three spots. Senior Lucy Yates finished first place with a time of 2:10.82. Freshman Ali Eisenbeiss clocked a second-place time of 2:12.04. Rosalie Griffin competed in the 800m event for the first time in her career. Griffin finished third overall with a time of 2:12.06. After the third leg of the 4x400m relay, the Utes were in second place. Yates ran the final leg of the race and passed Cal State Northridge's Shane Mullany-Banks to secure first-place for the Utes with a time of 3:46.76. The group's time is the top season opening performance in school history and ranks in the all-time top-10 best times. Coming off a third-place performance in the pentathlon on Friday, Senior Brianna LeRoy won the high jump with a mark of 5-6.00. The Utes finished with four of the top-six spots of the shot put. Alanna Nulph led the way with a second-place throw of 46-7.50. Destanae Howerton-Davis finished third with a mark of 45-11.25, while Candus Aiello earned the fourth spot recording a throw of 45-8.00.     Abstract:

    This work presents a constitutive model for metastable austenitic steels exhibiting Strain Induced Martensitic Transformation (SIMT). Based on the description of the kinetics of phase transformation proposed by Olson and Cohen [3], and later generalized to 3D by Stringfellow et al. [7] and Papatriantafillou et al. [4], this model includes the effect of temperature increase on the kinetics of SIMT and on the thermal softening of the phases. This allows capturing relevant phenomena exhibited by metastable austenitic steels when subjected to plastic deformation at high strain rates. A systematic procedure for the identification of the constitutive parameters has been proposed. The predictions of the constitutive description are compared with experiments for the austenitic steel AISI 304 provided by Rodríguez-Martínez et al. [6]. Good correlation between experiments and modelling are achieved in terms of macroscopic strain-stress curves and volume fraction of martensite formed during straining.

Na primeira parte da tese, parto de uma discussão com Michel Foucault e Giorgio Agamben para argumentar em favor da compreensão da instituição da escravidão colonial como um fenômeno biopolítico e um longo estado de exceção sustentado pelo discurso pastoral moderno. Na segunda parte, identifico a teorização dessa instituição biopolítica e desse estado de exceção escravista na obra de autores do Sul dos Estados Unidos no período antebellum, como Thomas R. Dew, John C. Calhoun , Thornton Stringfellow e George Fitzhugh. Em seguida, analiso a literatura memorial escrita no período postbellum como uma narrativa nostálgica sobre a decadência da civilização sulista e o fim da antiga ordem escravocrata. Por fim, na terceira parte, analiso como a narrativa de Gilberto Freyre sobre a história do Brasil lida com os legados e a memória da escravidão na formação da identidade nacional. ____________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTIn this work I discuss the formation and the development of a political vocabulary about the themes of slavery and race in the textualization of nation produced by authors of the Southern states of US and Brazil. What I search is understand how these themes was narrated in the texts which proposes and prescribes models of national or regional identities. In the same way I try to analyze how the intitution of slavery and the racial difference was articulated in the national 'master-narratives'. O que busco é compreender e analisar a forma como tais temas foram narrados no interior dos textos que tentavam definir, prescrever e fixar propostas de identidade, assim como encaixar a instituição da escravidão e a diferença racial na grande-narrativa nacional.     Abstract:

    The STAR Collaboration reports the first observation of exclusive rho 0 photoproduction, AuAu-->AuAu rho 0, and rho 0 production accompanied by mutual nuclear Coulomb excitation, AuAu-->Au [star] Au [star] rho 0, in ultraperipheral heavy-ion collisions. The rho 0 have low transverse momenta, consistent with coherent coupling to both nuclei.     Abstract:

    We report STAR results on the azimuthal anisotropy parameter v2 for strange particles K0S, Lambda , and Lambda -bar at midrapidity in Au+Au collisions at sqrt[sNN]=130 GeV at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The value of v2 as a function of transverse momentum, pt, of the produced particle and collision centrality is presented for both particles up to pt~3.0 GeV/c. A strong pt dependence in v2 is observed up to 2.0 GeV/c. The v2 measurement is compared with hydrodynamic model calculations.     Abstract:

    Data from the first physics run at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider at Brookhaven National Laboratory, Au+Au collisions at sqrt[sNN]=130 GeV, have been analyzed by the STAR Collaboration using three-pion correlations with charged pions to study whether pions are emitted independently at freeze-out. We have made a high-statistics measurement of the three-pion correlation function and calculated the normalized three-particle correlator to obtain a quantitative measurement of the degree of chaoticity of the pion source.
