  • Availability Comparison of Various Power Substation Automation Architectures
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2013
    Co-Authors: Hamze Hajian-hoseinabadi
    Abstract:

This study aims at quantitatively assessing the availability indices of various Substation Automation systems. In order to illustrate the proposed technique, first, nine types of Substation Automation architectures are reviewed. The reliability block diagrams of various Substation Automation architectures are then developed. Subsequently, comparative studies are performed to demonstrate the most reliable architectures in comparison with the others. The results obtained by the proposed approach show the impact of repair on availability indices of the Automation system. Finally, different sensitivity analyses are conducted for all architectures, where the impact of varying availability of all components on reliability indices of the Automation system is illustrated.

  • Reliability and component importance analysis of Substation Automation systems
International Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems, 2013
    Co-Authors: Hamze Hajian-hoseinabadi
    Abstract:

Abstract This paper aims to present a comprehensive technique to quantitatively assess the reliability of Substation Automation systems. The technique is based on the tie-sets methodology. In order to demonstrate the application of the proposed technique, a variety of Substation Automation architectures is first introduced. The associated reliability block diagrams as well as the exact system reliability are then given. The impacts and the degree of importance of various components on the reliability of Substation Automation systems are presented. Two suitable measures of importance are selected. The first is the Birnbaum’s measure used to determine the bottleneck of the system reliability. The second measure uses criticality importance to diagnose failures and generating repair or inspection checklists.

  • Disposal and Test of Abnormal Malfunctions in Substation Automation System
    Guangdong Electric Power, 2008
    Co-Authors: Gao Xin-hua
    Abstract:

A few abnormal software malfunctions often appear in Substation Automation system, which has brought about grave hidden troubles to the safety and stability of Substations.Based on thorough analysis of the abnormal malfunctions caused by negligence in software development and incorrect on-site configuration, corresponding solution is brought forward, and the introduction of software engineering testing into Substation Automation system is approached to perfect the testing job.

  • Analysis of Network Malfunction of Substation Automation System
    Guangdong Electric Power, 2008
    Co-Authors: Gao Xin-hua
    Abstract:

The paper focuses on the recent malfunction of a Substation Automation system in China.Through on-site investigation and simulation test of the accident, the paper analyses the network structure, exchange functionality and abnormal communication flow of the Substation Automation system, sorts out the main cause of the malfunction and proposes a corrective scheme and suggestion on the basis of the actual situation.

  • Discussion on Substation Automation system based on IEC 61850
    Guangdong Electric Power, 2006
    Co-Authors: Gao Xin-hua
    Abstract:

Standard IEC 61850 for Substation communication, which was worked out by International Electrotechnical Commission(IEC),is one of the bases of seamless communication system standard for power system in the future. With a description of the communication network for Substation Automation system(SAS) and the main content of IEC 61850,a method, based on extensible markup language(XML),for transition from IEC 60870-5101 telecontrol protocol to IEC 61850 is introduced in this paper, which is helpful for tracking international development trend of Substation Automation technique and designing new systems.
