  • Relationship between types of mucosa contact and mucosal contact point headache

    Abstract:

    Objective To investigate the relationship between types of mucosa contact and mucosal contact point headache.Method A questionnaire on chronic headache and Nasal cavity examination were conducted among 494 patients with headache who received medical intervention and were followed-up for 1 week.Results Among the 494 patients,223 (45.14%) cases had headache.The occurrence rate of headache were 20.6%,15.3%,and 78.4% in middle turbinate contact with the Nasal septum,ethmoid bulla,and uncinate process;were 45.8% and 70.4% in uncinate process contact with the ethmoid bulla and Nasal septum;were 100.0% and 88.9 % in Superior Nasal Concha contact with the ethmoid bulla and Nasal septum;and were 74.5%,70.5%,and 71.0% in the mucosa of Nasal anatomy with multipoint contact.Conclusion Mucosal contact point headache is closely related to types of mucosa contact.

  • Epidemiological investigation of Nasal anatomical abnormalities and intraNasal contact point headaches in population undergoing physical examination

    Abstract:

    Objective To analyze the epidemiological characteristics of Nasal anatomical abnormalities and intraNasal contact point headaches in adults,and to provide evidence for clinical prevention and treatment. Methods A questionnaire on chronic headaches was conducted among 1 328 participants undergoing physical examination from July to November,2008.The participants with related symptoms according to the questionnaires were examined(811/1 328)for accurate diagnosis and the results were statistically analyzed.Results The rate of Nasal anatomical abnormalities was 61.07%(811/1 328).The abnormal rates of Nasal septum,middle turbinate,uncinate process,ethmoid bulla and Superior Nasal Concha were 59.71%,40.21%,20.18%,23.42% and 2.79% respectively.There was no difference in the abnormalities between man and woman.The prevalence rate of intraNasal contact point headaches was 1.96%.The rates of headaches were significantly different between adults with or without Nasal anatomical abnormalities(P0.05).Conclusion There is a high prevalence of the intraNasal contact point headaches in adults.The contact point headaches should be among considerations for headaches of unknown origin accompanied with Nasal anatomical abnormalities.

    Abstract:

    Almost all Nasal polyps orginate from the mucosa of the lateral walls of the Nasal cavity or from the paraNasal sinuses. Diagnosis of a choanal polyp is made by endoscopic and radiologic examinations. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging are very helpful to detect the origin and the extent of the polyp . Functional endoscopic surgery is the treatment of choice. Nasal polyps orginating from the Superior Nasal Concha with choanal extension are extremely rare. We report a case of choanal polyp that arised from the Superior Nasal Concha and extended down to the choana with its radiologic  and surgical findings.

    Abstract:

    Objective: To study the relationship between the types of mucosa contact and mucosal contact point headache.Methods: A questionnaire on chronic headache was conducted and eyeground examined among 494 cases of mucosa contact.Meanwhile,mucosal contact point headache patients were treated by drug and follow-up after a week.Results:The headache rate was 45.1% in 494 cases of mucosa contact.The headache rates of middle turbinate contact with the Nasal septum,ethmoid bulla and uncinate process were 20.6%,15.3% and 78.4% respectively.The headache rates of uncinate process contact with the ethmoid bulla and Nasal septum were 45.8% and 70.4% respectively.The headache rates of Superior Nasal Concha contact with the ethmoid bulla and Nasal septum were 100.1% and 88.9 % respectively.The headache rates of mucosa of Nasal anatomy with multipoint contact were 74.5%,70.5% and 71.0% respectively.Follow-up a week,headache released was 68.3%,headache disappeared was 21.4% and 13 cases unchanged.Conclusion: Mucosal contact point headache is closely related to the types of mucosa contact.The highest incidence of headache is the mucosa of Nasal anatomy with multipoint contact.There are differences in the mechanism of headache to the types of mucosa contact.

  • THE EPIDEMIOLOGY INVESTIGATION OF Nasal ANATOMY ABNORMALITY AND RHINOGENIC HEADACHE IN RHINOLOGY

    Abstract:

    Objective:To analyze the characteristic of Nasal anatomy abnormality and rhinogenic headache in rhinology.Methods:The patients of rhinology from December 2008 to January 2009 were analyzed by eyeground examination and the results were dealt with statistics.Results:The mutational rate of Nasal septum,middle turbinate gasification,abnormal middle turbinate,uncinate process,ethmoid bulla, Superior Nasal Concha,agger nasi and Haller nasi was 88.76%,28.37%,14.75%,29.23%,23.61%, 5.69%,1.39%and 3.11%respoctively.The rate of rhinogenic headache was 34.66%.The rate of mucosal contact point headache was 3.17%.No significant difference was observed between genders(P0.05),there was significantly different between the rate of headache among Nasal anatomy abnormality and normality(P0.05).Conclusion:There is a high rate of rhinogenic headache in the department of Otorhinolaryngology which should be paid affention.
