Arc resistance test of Synthetic Resin.
Journal of The Society of Materials Science Japan, 1991Co-Authors: Tadao IkejiriAbstract:In the deterioration of Synthetic Resin caused by low voltage high current arc, it is considered that arc behaves inherently as a heat source. So, the arc resistance is usually evaluated from the viewpoint of deterioration by the equivalent heat source. In this paper, several new test methods including the modified one by the equivalent heat source were examined to evaluate effectively the arc resistance of insulating materials. From the combined use of these test methods, the right evaluation of arc resistance seems possible. As the new test methods, the arc resistance test by a gasoline torch lamp, the rotary type one by chemical flame, the arc resistance one by an instant infared heating apparatus among others were employed. The comparison of the experimental results by these test methods was made, and it was observed in all cases that the Resins such as silicone-glass and melamine-glass laminates showed high arc resistance and the Resins such as PVC and phenol Resins showed low arc resistance.

Derivation of arc resistance time-applied voltage curve for Synthetic Resin.
Journal of The Society of Materials Science Japan, 1991Co-Authors: Tadao IkejiriAbstract:In order to discuss the arc resistance of Synthetic Resin, it is quite important to know the relation between arc resistance time and applied voltage. In this study, an attempt was made to derive the arc resistance time-applied voltage curve under the consideration that the arc deterioration of insulating materials is completed when the sum of deterioration caused by each discharge becomes above a limiting value. Several assumptions were used in the present step, but it is considered that those assumptions must be improved and be proven by the experimental and theoretical studies in future.Furthermore, the progress of deterioration was defined here and the tendency of its variation with the elapsed time was clarified.

A trial of new tracking resistance test for Synthetic Resin.
Journal of The Society of Materials Science Japan, 1991Co-Authors: Tadao IkejiriAbstract:Many tracking resistance tests of Synthetic Resin have hitherto been proposed, but no satisfactory test method has been derived because of the complication of tracking phenomena. In this paper, a new tracking resistance test was tried under the adequate consideration of various previous tests. In the test, commercial frequency A.C. voltage was applied between two electrodes with the maximum secondary voltage in high voltage transformer being 15kV and the capacity of transformer 1.5kVA. The progress of carbonized track from only one electrode was taken into consideration and the other electrode was floated. Under this electrode arrangement, the variation of length of track was measured by changing the applied voltage, the electrode gap length, etc. Test samples wetted thinly and uniformly with the mixture of 0.1% NH4Cl solution and 0.5% sodium dodecinyle benzen sulphonate solution were used. The length of carbonized track in the experiment was examined from the view point of tracking resistance. The results agreed reasonably well with those by the previous tracking test methods, confirming the applicability of the present method.

Cation exchange for mercury and cadmium of xanthated, sulfonated, activated and non-treated subbituminous coal, commercial activated carbon and commercial Synthetic Resin: effect of pre-oxidation on xanthation of subbituminous coal
International Journal of Coal Science & Technology, 2014Co-Authors: Lewis Gomez, Fredy Colpas-castillo, Roberto Fernández-maestreAbstract:A subbituminous coal was oxidized with air at 150 °C on a fixed bed for 4 h and xanthated with carbon disulfide in a basic solution, at 30 or 5–10 °C. This xanthated coal was evaluated for the removal of Hg2+ and Cd2+ from 7,000 mg/L aqueous solutions; metal concentrations were determined by atomic absorption spectrometry. The ion exchange of the xanthated coal was compared against those of the original subbituminous coal, a sulfonated subbituminous coal, activated carbon, commercial activated carbon, and commercial Synthetic Resin. The commercial Synthetic Resin showed the highest exchange capacity (concentration factor 98 %) followed by the xanthated coal (concentration factor 96 %). The retention of cadmium on the sulfonated subbituminous coal was lower (exchange capacity 0.56 meq/g) than that of xanthated coals (1.85 ± 0.09 meq/g). Our xanthated coal showed a better Cd2+ removal (81 % against 15 %) than a non preoxidized 40-h-xanthated coal, which shows that oxidation of coal increased the amount of oxygenated groups which enhanced xanthation.

method of manufacturing a framed keytop sheet for a push button switch
1996Co-Authors: Jiro Inagaki, Atsushi Hari, Nobuyuki Kikuchi, Takashi ShinokiAbstract:A keytop sheet of a push-button switch includes a keytop made of Synthetic Resin that is molded on a sheet of Resin film. A portion of the film sheet surrounding the portion thereof on which the keytop is molded is provided with a curved projection protruding in a downward and/or upward direction from the surface of the film sheet. Such curved projection can be replaced by providing the portion of the film sheet surrounding the portion thereof on which the keytop is molded with a cut-out to form a hinge portion. A nameplate provided with a hole shaped so that the keytop may be passed therethrough is attached to the film sheet so as to cover the cut-out and hinge portion of the film sheet. The nameplate can have an outer diameter greater than that of the film sheet. A frame made of Synthetic Resin is fixed to an underside of the film sheet on an outer peripheral portion thereof. An outer peripheral portion of the nameplate is bent and fixed to an outer peripheral side surface of the frame.

keytop sheet for push button switches
1993Co-Authors: Jiro Inagaki, Atsushi Hari, Nobuyuki Kikuchi, Takashi ShinokiAbstract:A keytop sheet of a push-button switch includes a keytop, which is made of Synthetic Resin, molded on a sheet of Resin film. A portion of the film sheet surrounding the portion thereof on which the keytop is molded is provided with a curved projection protruding in a downward and/or upward direction from the surface of the film sheet. Alternatively, a cut-out separates the portion of the film sheet on which the keytop is molded from the remainder of the film sheet while leaving a hinge portion, and a nameplate through which the keytop passes is attached to the film sheet so as to over the cut-out and hinge portion of the film sheet. The nameplate may have an outer diameter greater than that of the film sheet, and a frame made of Synthetic Resin is fixed to an underside of the film sheet on an outer peripheral portion thereof. The outer peripheral portion of the nameplate is bent and fixed to an outer peripheral side surface of the frame.

A study on neurobehavioral performance of workers occupationally exposed to solvent in Synthetic Resin manufacturing
Toxicology International, 2014Co-Authors: Asim Saha, TripathiAbstract:Background: One major effect of occupational solvent exposure is central nervous system (CNS) impairment, ranging from depression to encephalopathy with cognitive, behavioral changes. Exposures in industries being varied, classification of health outcomes for different exposures is important. Objectives: This study assessed neurobehavioral performance of Synthetic Resin manufacturing workers exposed to organic solvent, mainly formalin. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study selected subjects by random selection from all such workers of an Indian city. Questionnaire survey and assessment by a neurobehavioral test battery (NBT) was undertaken. Results: Comparison between actual and allied workers observed significant difference in tweezer dexterity, card sorting and backward memory scores. Significant effect of exposure was observed on tweezer dexterity, card sorting, and hand dynamometer scores. Conclusion: Changes of neurobehavioral performance might occur following solvent exposure and these changes might have a relationship with the quantum of exposure. Periodic examination of workers with NBT is needed for detection of early neurotoxic effects.
