Organizational re-engineering includes the identification of the Target Organization and the design of the Organizational change plan for a problematic business process. Current re-engineering methodologies do not use fuzzy cognitive maps for identifying the Target Organization or formal tools for designing the Organizational change plan. Reengineering a manufacturing system consists of integrating the productive resources of a current business process so that the products made are focused on the Target market and generate the expected profits. Reengineering includes the selection and description of a problematic process, the identification of a Target Organization, the design and cost evaluation of the Organizational improvements and the follow-up of their implementations. This paper presents a macromolecular approach for reengineering a problematic process by a group of distributed experts. The originality of the macromolecular approach is the use of fuzzy cognitive maps, named intelligent reference models, for reorganizing the Target Organization.

Detecting Organization-Targeted Socialbots by Monitoring Social Network Profiles
Networks and Spatial Economics, 2018Co-Authors: Abigail Paradise, Asaf Shabtai, Rami PuzisAbstract:Advanced attackers use online social networks in order to extract useful information about Targeted Organizations, including the names of the Organization’s members, their connections, affiliations, positions, etc. Using artificial profiles (socialbots) attackers connect to real members of the Organization, thus establishing a foothold inside the Organization and greatly increasing the amount of sensitive information they can collect. The connection methods used by attackers are versatile, ranging from random friend requests to carefully crafted, manually operated social engineering attempts. In this paper we provide an analysis of the cost-effectiveness of strategies used to monitor Organizational social networks and detect the socialbots that penetrate a Target Organization. These strategies were evaluated against heterogeneous attackers with different levels of knowledge about the monitoring strategies, using simulation on actual social network data and data from a real scenario of socialbot intrusion. The results demonstrate the efficacy of the monitoring strategies in detecting less sophisticated attackers and slowing down attackers that deliberately avoid the monitored profiles.

Socialbots are artificial, machine-operated, social network profiles that connect to real members of an Organization, greatly increasing the amount of information an attacker can collect. To connect socialbots, attackers can employ several strategies. The authors' approach hunts socialbots using a carefully chosen monitoring strategy by intelligently selecting Organization member profiles and monitoring their activity. Their results demonstrate their method's efficacy--specifically, when attackers know the defense strategy being deployed, the attack they will most likely use is randomly sprayed friend requests, which eventually lead to a low number of connections.

Implementing an IS strategy—A team approach
Long Range Planning, 1997Co-Authors: Gregory MentzasAbstract:Abstract Although information systems strategy planning (ISSP) is vital to continuing Organizational success and despite the existence of a multitude of frameworks and methods, Organizations are still failing to deal effectively with IS planning problems. In order to help alleviate this problem, this article proposes an ISSP process. The article identifies separate process elements: phases, stages and modules of elementary activities. The proposed process aims to satisfy the need for a consistent linkage of IS strategy with corporate strategy by adopting elements of the corporate strategic planning literature. It provides a framework for enforcing the participation and involvement of managerial staff of the Target Organization and supports a structured team approach during the process's implementation. A case study of the approach illustrates the merits and pitfalls of the process.

ICSM - Transferring re-engineering technology to a software development and maintenance Organization: an experience report

Researchers need to get more actively involved in "pushing technology out of the door." This paper describes an experiment that we conducted in 1993 to facilitate technology transfer. There are two aspects of this experiment: the integration of a re-engineering process into an existing software development and maintenance Organization; and the evaluation of a research prototype in a "real world" situation. The experiment resulted in recommendations on adaptation of the tool functionality and on a configuration for use by different teams within the Target Organization. >
