IROS - A multi-camera person tracking system for robotic applications in virtual reality TV studio
2008 IEEE RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems, 2008Co-Authors: Suraj Nair, Giorgio Panin, Martin Wojtczyk, C. Lenz, T. Friedlhuber, Alois KnollAbstract:In this paper, an integrated multi-camera person tracking system for virtual reality Television Studios (VR-TV) is presented. The system robustly tracks the moderator while freely moving, sitting or walking around the studio, and the estimation result can be used in order to drive the main broadcasting camera mounted on a large robotic arm. Application of the proposed tracking system to real-time VR-TV results in an autonomous robot cameraman, able to keep the moderator inside the screen with jitter-free viewpoint adjustments, as required by the scene rendering engine.

a reconfigurable hardware platform for digital real time signal processing in Television Studios
Field-Programmable Custom Computing Machines, 2000Co-Authors: K Henriss, P Ruffer, R Ernst, Sieghard HasenzahlAbstract:By the continuous increase of speed and capacity of field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) it becomes possible not only to process digital video data by FPGAs in real-time but also to implement the logic of complex video algorithms in one FPGA. For Television (TV) Studios the adherence to the real-time constraint is a mandatory requirement. Besides the reconfigurability of FPGAs allows the execution of different algorithms on the same hardware. With the reconfigurable hardware platform introduced in this contribution different video standards including high definition Television (HDTV) can be processed in real-time. To realize a system with many complex video applications the platforms can be cascaded.

ISMAR - Dynamic Adaptation of Projected Imperceptible Codes
2007 6th IEEE and ACM International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality, 2007Co-Authors: Anselm Grundhöfer, M. Seeger, F. Hantsch, Oliver BimberAbstract:In this paper we present an innovative adaptive imperceptible pattern projection technique that takes into account parameters of human visual perception. A coded image is temporally integrated into the projected image, which is invisible to the human eye but can be reconstructed by a synchronized camera. The embedded code is dynamically adjusted on the fly to guarantee its imperceptibility and to adapt it to the current camera pose. Linked with real-time flash keying, for instance, this enables in-shot optical tracking using a dynamic multi-resolution marker technique. A sample prototype has been realized that demonstrates the application of our method in the context of augmentations in Television Studios.
