dictator game giving and norms of redistribution does giving in the dictator game parallel with the supporting of income redistribution in the field
Journal of Socio-economics, 2013Co-Authors: Timo TammiAbstract:The dictator game is a tool for analyzing generosity in a simple experimental environment. The susceptibility of the results to relatively small changes in the experimental design has cast doubt on the interpretation of the game within the framework of the traditional economic Theory of Preferences. Another concern attached to the game is that patterns similar to those found in experiments are difficult to find outside experiments. Consequently, the recent discussion has ranged over using the dictator game as a tool for investigating social norms rather than as a setting to test the Theory of Preferences. Any progress in this discussion presupposes more empirical work using various data and taking various theoretical perspectives. This paper contributes to such research by comparing giving in the dictator game with supporting income redistribution in the field. In particular, the paper provides a simple data-analysis of three developed countries (Spain, Sweden and the USA) to find a data pattern similar to data patterns in dictator game experiments. A symmetrical resemblance is found in the case of Sweden, an asymmetrical one in the case of the USA, and a non-resemblance in the case of Spain.

Econophysics and individual choice
2020Co-Authors: Robert F BordleyAbstract:Abstract The subjectivist Theory of probability specifies certain axioms of rationality which together lead to both a Theory of probability and a Theory of preference. The Theory of probability is used throughout the sciences while the Theory of Preferences is used in economics. Results in quantum physics challenge the adequacy of the subjectivist Theory of probability. As we show, answering this challenge requires modifying an Archimedean axiom in the subjectivist Theory. But changing this axiom modifies the subjectivist Theory of preference and therefore has implications for economics. As this paper notes, these implications are consistent with current empirical findings in psychology and economics. As we show, these results also have implications for pricing in securities markets. This suggests further directions for research in econophysics.

'Universidad Externado de Colombia', 2020Co-Authors: Beltrán Beltrán, Jenny Paola, Medina Arias, Yuliana Andrea, Muñoz Muñoz, Luisa Fernanda, Villada Urbano, Karen VivianaAbstract:After observing how the rise of the Internet has affected a generational change in customs and forms of consumption that has resulted in the birth and in turn the closure of multiple businesses worldwide, this work aims to recognize whether the new companies supported in the information and communication technologies that are dedicated to electronic commerce, apply the Theory of Preferences at the time of financing. Therefore, this document develops a bibliographic exploration of small and medium enterprises focused on e-commerce and the evolution in Colombia between 2015 and 2017. The main indicators of indebtedness are evaluated based on the financial information reported to the Financial Superintendence of Colombia. It’s concluded that the analyzed companies don’t have a scale of preference between financing with own resources and indebtedness with financial entities as the Theory explains.

'Universidad Cesar Vallejo', 2021Co-Authors: Vela Meléndez Lindon, Gonzales Cruz, Kathy Amalia, Castillo Seminario, Lucinda EsperanzaAbstract:Based on bibliometrics and analytical review of the literature, a review of the state of the art of the gender pay gap phenomenon has been developed. First, a keyword search argument has been prepared in Scopus, with which the statistics of publications such as: evolution over time, types of publication, area of knowledge and countries have been elaborated; then, using ATLAS.ti, an analytical reading of the theoretical and methodological contributions and trends in the approach to the phenomenon has been carried out. It is concluded that according to the Scopus database, the subject has been dealt with since 1993, but since 2002 there has been greater interest by researchers, the publications are mainly original articles, book chapters and reviews, which are approached from the social, administrative and economic sciences, and the interest of medical sciences in recent years stands out. In the explanation of the phenomenon, there coexist classic orthodox views based on the Theory of Preferences and individualism and a heterodox view of social provisioning that analyzes the institutional framework that maintains wage differences and considers that the wage gap is not a natural phenomenon and, therefore, must be examined within a specific social and historical context. Finally, with respect to the factors that statistically explain the existence of the wage gap, there is convergence of several authors in the valuation of contributions by Oaxaca - Blinder and Reimers, as well as Neumark, Jhun’s decomposition and a widely used technique in statistical decomposition is quantile regression.

satisfaction in action hume s endogenous Theory of Preferences and the virtues of commerce
Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, 2021Co-Authors: Erik W MatsonAbstract:Abstract Hume's Theory of Preferences would, from a contemporary point of view, be labelled an endogenous Theory. He sees Preferences largely as comparative desires that are formed and affected by the psychological process of sympathy. His view of Preferences relates to his economic philosophy. Despite his understanding of Preferences, Hume is, unlike some other thinkers with related perspectives like Thorstein Veblen, optimistic about the prospects of commercial society, claiming in one of his essays that the ages of commerce and refinement are both the happiest and the most virtuous. An important reason for his optimism lies in the fact that he understands happiness or well-being to largely consist in the process of actively pursuing one's Preferences, not simply in the state of having one's Preferences satisfied.
