Isothermal Thermogravimetric Analysis of Recycled Carbon Fiber Composites
2019Co-Authors: Seyed Hossein Mamanpush, Azadeh Tavousi TabatabaeiAbstract:Isothermal Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) is a technique in which the mass of a substance is monitored as a function of time as the sample specimen is subjected to a controlled temperature program in a controlled atmosphere. In this research, isothermal TGA was carried out to determine the thermal stability of the recycled epoxy-based and vinyl ester-based carbon fiber composite (CFC). The specimens were heated at constant temperature under nitrogen and air. We evaluate the influence of different temperature on the degradation of recycled CFCs. Results indicate that different temperature has significant influence on the degradation of the recycled CFC under nitrogen.

Dynamic Thermogravimetric Analysis of Recycled Carbon Fiber Composites: Mini Review
2019Co-Authors: Seyed Hossein Mamanpush, Azadeh Tavousi TabatabaeiAbstract:Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) is one of the most popular Analysis techniques to study the decomposition process of polymeric materials in controlled atmospheres at various temperatures. In this review, dynamic TGA was carried out to determine the thermal stability of the recycled epoxy-based and vinyl ester-based carbon fiber composite (CFC). The specimens were heated from ambient to 800 oC under nitrogen and air at different heating rates. Results indicates that different heating rates has no significant influence on the degradation of the epoxy- based CFC.

Thermogravimetric Analysis of Single-Wall Carbon Nanotubes
2010Co-Authors: Sivram Arepalli, Pavel Nikolaev, Olga GorelikAbstract:An improved protocol for Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) of samples of single-wall carbon nanotube (SWCNT) material has been developed to increase the degree of consistency among results so that meaningful comparisons can be made among different samples. This improved TGA protocol is suitable for incorporation into the protocol for characterization of carbon nanotube material. In most cases, TGA of carbon nanotube materials is performed in gas mixtures that contain oxygen at various concentrations. The improved protocol is summarized.

Thermogravimetric Analysis of single-wall carbon nanotubes ultrasonicated in monochlorobenzene
Chemical Physics Letters, 2002Co-Authors: M Zhang, Aya Koshio, Masako Yudasaka, S. IijimaAbstract:The single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) purified by nitric acid were ultrasonicated in monochlorobenzene solution. Thermogravimetric Analysis complemented by transmission electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy was used to analyze the thus ultrasonicated SWNTs. The results show that two kinds of modified SWNTs and one modification-free SWNT coexist in ultrasonicated SWNTs and burned in three different temperature ranges. The different chemical modifications of SWNTs are likely to arise from their different structures. This provides a possible way to analyze and separate different structures of SWNTs.
