  • development and validation of an instrument for multidimensional Top Management Support
International Journal of Productivity and Performance Management, 2017
Co-Authors: Riaz Ahmed, Noor Azmi Bin Mohamed
    Abstract:

Purpose Literature reveals that there is a paucity of instruments to measure multidimensional Top Management Support (TMS). The multidimensionality and the complexity of the TMS cannot be reflected by a single-dimensional construct. The purpose of this paper is to develop and validate an instrument for the measurement of multidimensional TMS. Design/methodology/approach In this cross-sectional study, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were performed to check the validity and model fitness based on sample data collected from the PMI community. Ordinary least square and structural equation modeling techniques were used to test the research hypotheses and validate multidimensional TMS. Findings The findings revealed a significant positive correlation among all dimensions of Top Management and their significant influence on project success, especially on project efficiency and team dimensions. Research limitations/implications Based on the existing knowledge through a coherent and refined process, the development and validation of a Top Management Support questionnaire (TMSQ) made a significant contribution to theories and research methods. Practical implications Multidimensional TMS provides an opportunity to ensure provision of apt assistance throughout the implementation of projects for improving organizational performance across the industries. Originality/value This study targeted a sample size of 300 to develop and validate an instrument, which is in line with previous research studies on the development and validation of a reliable instrument. To operationalize TMSQ, this study adopted an online survey and received 208 responses (69 percent) from the PMI community.

  • Top Management Support and project performance an empirical study of public sector projects
    Social Science Research Network, 2016
    Co-Authors: Riaz Ahmed
    Abstract:

The performance of public sector projects is comparatively low. Top Management Support is one of the critical success factors that adversely affect performance of projects in organizations. A large number of studies have been conducted on Top Management Support as a single dimensional construct in the field of engineering Management and project Management. However, a very few studies have explored Top Management Support as a multi-dimensional construct. The objective of this study is to investigate the relationship between multiple dimensions of Top Management Support and project performance. This quantitative study employed random sampling techniques on cross sectional data collected through an online survey from public sector projects. The respondents were the project managers and project directors working on public sector projects in Pakistan. Explanatory and confirmatory factor analyses were employed to test the validity of the construct. For testing of research hypotheses, correlation and regression analyses were conducted. Findings indicate that all dimensions of Top Management Support have significant positive influence on project performance in the public sector of Pakistan. The study provides implications for academicians and practitioners in policy formulation, to gain apt Support from Top Management and improve project performance. The study provides directions for future research.

  • exploring relationship between multi dimensional Top Management Support and project success an international study
    Social Science Research Network, 2016
Co-Authors: Riaz Ahmed, Noor Azmi Bin Mohamad
    Abstract:

The role of Top Management Support in achieving project success has gained much attention in research and practice. A number of studies on single dimensional Top Management Support have been conducted. In engineering Management literature, Top Management Support has rarely been studied as a multi-dimensional construct. This research examines the relationship between multiple dimensions of Top Management Support and project success. Different data analysis methods were employed to test research hypotheses and validate multi-dimensions of Top Management Support. Findings indicate a significant and positive relationship between multi-dimensional Top Management Support and project success.

  • effect of multidimensional Top Management Support on project success an empirical investigation
    Social Science Research Network, 2016
Co-Authors: Riaz Ahmed, Noor Azmi Bin Mohamad, Muhammad Shakil Ahmad
    Abstract:

During the last three decades, substantial research has been conducted with Top Management Support as a single dimensional construct. The significance of Top Management Support as a critical success factor is well recognized in the literature. Yet, Top Management Support has rarely been used as a multidimensional construct to measure project success. This paper examines the effect of multidimensional Top Management Support on project success through cross-sectional data collected from 208 project Management professionals across the world. In addition, regression analysis reveals that ‘provide resources’ and ‘power’ dimensions of Top Management have significant influence on project success.

  • Top Management Support external expertise and information systems implementation in small businesses
    Information Systems Research, 1996
    Co-Authors: James Y L Thong, Cheesing Yap, K S Raman
    Abstract:

Top Management Support is a key recurrent factor critical for effective information systems (IS) implementation. However, the role of Top Management Support may not be as critical as external IS expertise, in the form of consultants and vendors, in small business IS implementation due to the unique characteristics of small businesses. This paper describes an empirical study of the relative importance of Top Management Support and external IS expertise on IS effectiveness in 114 small businesses. Partial least squares (PLS) was used for statistical testing. The results show that Top Management Support is not as important as effective external IS expertise in small business IS implementation. While Top Management Support is essential for IS effectiveness, high quality external IS expertise is even more critical for small businesses operating in an environment of resource poverty. These findings call for more research efforts to be directed at selecting and engaging high quality external IS expertise for IS implementation in small businesses.
