a synthetic signal varied Weight Indicator in bacteria
IEEE Access, 2019Co-Authors: Mei ChenAbstract:Biomolecular computing devices always work in a complex biochemical environment. The Weight which shows the importance degree of a specific signal may vary in different environments because it may be influenced by other signals even in the absence of direct interaction. To measure a signal accurately, several biomolecular computing devices always need to be used to detect environmental factors. This study describes a novel method to determine the varied Weight of a specific signal in different environments using the differential expression of a gene to avoid using several biomolecular computing devices. We constructed and verified a signal varied Weight Indicator (SVWI) in the bacterium Escherichia coli using the lac operon, Ptet promoter system, and the clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats/DNase-dead Cpf1 system. The SVWI could indicate the varied Weight of an isopropyl $\beta $ -d-thiogalactoside signal in three states: existing, non-existing, and existing with another signal of anhydrotetracycline, based on the controllable differential expression of the lacZ gene. It could also be used to indicate three different kinds of environments. The quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, which is a traditionally used method to detect gene expression levels, was used to detect the results. The experimental results in the wet lab showed that SVWI can implement the expected functions. The SVWI has great potential in the application of biomedical, biocomputing, biosensors, and environmental monitoring. It will also inspire further research on the construction of biomolecular computing devices using controllable differential gene expression.

Socioeconomic Differences in Low Birth Weight: Revisiting Epidemiological Approaches
Revista Espanola De Investigaciones Sociologicas, 2013Co-Authors: Sol Juárez, Bárbara A. Revuelta EugerciosAbstract:Epidemiological perspectives applied to the study of socioeconomic inequalities in health are characterized by a one-dimensional approach to social differences, as income, occupation, and education are used as interchangeable variables to capture social inequalities. This paper calls into question this assumption by exploring the impact of parent's education and occupation on their newborns' health status, using the low birth Weight Indicator. We show that occupation and education, although related, should not be used as interchangeable. This study also challenges the traditional perspective in epidemiology of studying perinatal outcomes focusing exclusively on mother's information, as it shows that, despite the slightly higher influence of the mother's socioeconomic information, both parents have a key role on their newborn's birthWeight. Neonatal Maximum Thigh Circumference Tape: An Alternative Indicator of Low Birth Weight
Nigerian journal of paediatrics, 2004Co-Authors: V C Ezeaka, M T Egri-okwaji, Jk Renner, Ao GrangeAbstract:Background: The birth Weight of an infant is a significant determinant of morbidity. Birth Weight measurement is not always feasible in developing countries thus necessitating alternative measurements as surrogates. Objective: This study was undertaken to determine the most appropriate maximum thigh circumference (MTC) measurements corresponding to birth Weights of Methods: Anthropometric measurements were carried out on 788 neonates within 24 hours of delivery. The MTC measurements were then correlated with other anthropometric values. Based on the results obtained, a maximum thigh circumference tape that would be capable of distinguishing neonates with birth Weights Results: The mean MTC of the neonates increased as the birth Weights (F statistics = 80.66; p Conclusion: Using the cut-off values obtained, the neonates were categorized into three risk groups (“high risk”, “moderate risk”, and “low risk”), and a tricoloured MTC Tape was subsequently designed, using these inferences. Key words: Maximum thigh circumference, low birth Weight, Indicator. Nigerian Journal of Paediatrics 2003; 30: 60-66.

Water Supply, Demand, and Quality Indicators for Assessing the Spatial Distribution of Water Resource Vulnerability in the Columbia River Basin
Atmosphere-ocean, 2013Co-Authors: Heejun Chang, Il-won Jung, Angela L. Strecker, Daniel R. Wise, Martin Lafrenz, Vivek Shandas, Hamid Moradkhani, J. Alan Yeakley, Robert Allen BeanAbstract:We investigated water resource vulnerability in the US portion of the Columbia River basin (CRB) using multiple Indicators representing water supply, water demand, and water quality. Based on the US county scale, spatial analysis was conducted using various biophysical and socio-economic Indicators that control water vulnerability. Water supply vulnerability and water demand vulnerability exhibited a similar spatial clustering of hotspots in areas where agricultural lands and variability of precipitation were high but dam storage capacity was low. The hotspots of water quality vulnerability were clustered around the main stem of the Columbia River where major population and agricultural centres are located. This multiple equal Weight Indicator approach confirmed that different drivers were associated with different vulnerability maps in the sub-basins of the CRB. Water quality variables are more important than water supply and water demand variables in the Willamette River basin, whereas water supply and ...

Research on Comprehensive Evaluation Index System of Software Outsourcing Personnel Training
Proceedings of the International Conference on Education Management and Information Technology, 2015Co-Authors: Jingxian WangAbstract:For the current status of the software outsourcing talent training and the lack of uniform evaluation criteria, this paper use AHP to research comprehensive evaluation index system of software outsourcing personnel training. First, from the foreign language knowledge, the overall quality, IT technology, software engineering, four areas, build a preliminary evaluation index system; Then study theoretical basis about how to use AHP to calculate the Weight Indicator system, including the construct matrix, single-level sort, level always sorts and so on; Finally, calculate the Weight of each index in the initial evaluation index system, get the final evaluation system. The establishment of a scientific evaluation system is a basis for rational evaluation work, it is important for human resources management on software outsourcing and personnel evaluation research.
