  • miniplant tests of hcl technology of Alumina Production
TMS Annual Meeting & Exhibition, 2018
Co-Authors: Andrey A. Smirnov, Dmitriy Kibartas, Alexander Senyuta, Andrey Panov
    Abstract:

To reduce transportation costs of bauxite to Alumina refineries and Alumina to aluminium smelters RUSAL is developing effective alternative technology of Alumina Production from local non-bauxite ores. Following the completion of the laboratory tests of the acid technology of Alumina Production, the miniplant tests were carried out. Parameters and consumption rates of the technology were determined for the stages of kaolin acid leaching, filtration and washing of silica residue, crystallization of aluminium chloride hexahydrate and its calcination, rectification of hydrochloric acid. Corresponding chemical and physical processes were studied. Data for technology implementation in industrial scale were obtained.

  • Alumina Production Technologies - Current Status and Prospective Trends
    2015
    Co-Authors: Andrey Panov, Alexander Senyuta
    Abstract:

World aluminium oxide (Alumina) Production exceeds 150 million tons per year with > 95 % of it being used for manufacturing of primary aluminium and accounts for about 40 % of Production cost of the latter. Making Alumina cheaper and in a sustainable way is an urgent need of mankind. During over 150 years of industrial Alumina Production, the industry became mature and there seems to be little room for major improvement. Nevertheless, several companies in the world are developing innovative processes that could make a breakthrough in the years to come. The presentation describes state of the art and potential for improvement of established Alumina technologies in fields of energy efficiency, residue generation, capital and operation cost, as well as status of new developments in the process of Alumina Production from different raw materials by different methods, including gaps that need to be covered and potential benefits of new processes.

  • Sub-theory model about prediction of first trough temperature in sandy Alumina Production
The Chinese Journal of Nonferrous Metals, 2001
    Co-Authors: Chen Jin
    Abstract:

According to the practice of sandy Alumina Production, a sub theory model is deduced based on the principle of thermodynamics and kinetics and the hypothesis of the steady state process of producing. By gathering the local data of producing, including the particle distribution φ(r c), temperature ( T ), caustic ratio( R p), the concentration of sodium caustic and sodium Aluminate ( c (NaOH), c (NaAl(OH) 4)) and so on, the model parameters K 1, K 2, K 3 can be obtained using the method of statistics regression. The first trough temperature is then conveniently predicted from the model.

  • The Effect of Quality of Calcined Lime on Alumina Production
    Mining and Metallurgical Engineering, 2000
    Co-Authors: Chen Jin
    Abstract:

The first and second flash vaporization pipes of the digestion system of Pingguo Bayer alamina plant scared considerably in the early period of operation. The analytical results showed that the scar′s major composition is Na 2CO 3. It was found that incompletely calcined lime enters the circuit and causes anti causticizing reaction, resulting in formation of the scars. Therefore, the quality of calcined lime is of great importance to Alumina Production.
