CattaneoAbstract:Viscera and muscle of a total of 40 wild 1-2kg European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) from Northeast Atlantic (FAO area 27) were examined for Anisakidae larvae detection by digestion method. Extracted parasites were counted and mean intensity was calculated. Parasites were identified by genetic/molecular markers (allozymes and sequences analysis of the mtDNA cox2 gene) as belonging to the species Anisakis simplex (sensu stricto). In viscera, the main localisations of the larvae were under the gastric serosa, where several parasites alive and dead were found, and intestinal serosa. The visceral prevalence was 0.950 and the mean intensity was 96.39. The main localisation of A. simplex (s.s.) in edible parts was in belly muscles, with a prevalence of 0.425 and a mean intensity of 1.9. This is the first record on the prevalence and mean intensity of A. simplex (s.s.) in European sea bass muscle. This finding has an important consequence on epidemiology of anisakiasis and public health risk assessment.

Food Control, 2009Co-Authors: Cristian BernardiAbstract:Abstract A total of 561 fresh European sea bass from North-East Atlantic Ocean (F.A.O. zone 27) were examined for Anisakidae larvae detection. It is the first record on the prevalence of Anisakidae larvae in this fish specie. An unexpected high prevalence was found. The prevalence range was between 65% and 85% in relation with the body weight of the subject. The results have an important consequence on epidemiology of anisakidosis and public health risk assessment.

EvaAbstract:Los peces pueden presentar larvas plerocercoides de Diphyllobothriidae y larvas infectivas de Anisakidae capaces de ocasionar infecciones a mamíferos marinos y al hombre, asimismo pueden albergar otras formas larvarias que parasitan mamíferos marinos y algunos mamíferos terrestres. El objetivo de este trabajo fue determinar la frecuencia de larvas plerocercoides Diphyllobothriidae y larvas infectivas de la familia Anisakidae, así como la identificación y frecuencia de otros géneros de helmintos que pudieran hallarse los peces muestreados, a nivel muscular y/o cavidad abdominal. Durante los meses de julio a setiembre de 1999, fueron muestreados 100 especímenes de cada una de las cuatro especies de peces marinos comerciales: caballa (Scomber japonicus; cachema (Cynoscion analis); coco (Paralonchurus peruanus) y lorna (Sciaena deliciosa) respectivamente, procedentes del terminal pesquero de Ventanilla- Callao, encontrándose larvas plerocercoides Diphyllobothriidae con frecuencia de 1% en lorna, larvas Anisakidae con 23% en caballa, de los 20% correspondieron a Anisakis physeteris, y 4% Anisakis simple. otras formas larvarias encontradas fueron Corynosoma obtuscens con 55% en lorna, 3% en caballa, 16% en coco, y 2% en cachema; Tentacularia coryphaenae con 4% en caballa, y Nybelinia sp. con 13% en lorna y 1% en cachema. todos los hemiltos fueron hallados sòlo a nivel de cavidad abdominal. La caballa fue la especie con más carga parasitaria seguida de la lorna; mientras que la forma larvaria de Corynosoma obtuscens fue encontrada en las cuatro especies de peces marinos muestreados

PRESENCIA DE FORMAS PARASITARIAS EN PECES COMERCIALES DEL MAR PERUANO.

EvaAbstract:Con el objetivo de evaluar infecciones por larvas plerocercoides de Diphyllobothriidae y larvas de Anisakidae, se estudiaron Trachurus symmetricus murphyi "jurel", Sarda sarda chiliensis "bonito", Mugil cephalus "lisa'', Odontesthes regia regia "pejerrey" y Sciaena deliciosa "lorna"; correspondiente a cinco especies de peces marinos comerciales, los mismos que fueron colectados del Terminal Pesquero del Callao en Lima-Perú durante abril a junio de 1997. La frecuencia de larvas plerocercoides de Diphyllobothriidae fue 4.29% (3/70) en jurel y de larvas de Anisakidae fue 8.6% (6/70), 47.1 % (33/70) y 20% (14/70) para jurel, bonito y lisa respectivamente. Las larvas de Anisakidae fueron Anisakis simplex (Larva Anisakis tipo I), Anisakis physeteris (larva Anisakis tipo II), Hysterothylacium aduncum y Contracaecum sp. Otras especies larvarias encontradas fueron: Corynosoma obtuscens, Tentacularia coryphaenae, N ybelinia sp. Proleptus sp

Parasitology International, 2017Co-Authors: Felipe B Pereira, Jose L LuqueAbstract:Abstract Genetic and morphological variations in two component populations of Raphidascaris ( Sprentascaris ) lanfrediae collected in the intestine of Geophagus argyrosticus and G. proximus (Cichlidae) from States of Para and Amapa, Brazil, respectively, were explored for the first time. A phylogenetic study including two genes (18S and 28S of the rDNA) plus morphological and life history traits of “anisakid-related” nematodes (Anisakidae, Raphidascarididae) was also performed in order to clarify taxonomic and systematic issues related to these taxa. Gene alignments were subjected to maximum likelihood (ML) and Bayesian Inference (BI), and combined data of the genetic and morphological datasets was subjected to maximum parsimony (MP) analysis. Despite of the subtle differences in the morphology (mainly in male caudal papillae) and morphometry between specimens of R. ( S .) lanfrediae from the two different hosts and from the type material of the species, no genetic variation was found among representatives of the newly collected material. This find may represent an example of gene-environment interactions, similar to that recently observed for Raphidascaroides brasiliensis . Phylogenetic reconstructions indicated the paraphyly of Anisakidae represented by two subfamilies, i.e., Anisakinae and Contracaecinae and the monophyly of Raphidascarididae. Analysis of the combined datasets revealed that some morphological traits may represent apomorphic characters of Raphidascarididae and Anisakidae, whereas others are highly homoplastic and some may be interpreted with careful to avoid errors. The results support the premise that taxonomists should consider Anisakidae and Raphidascarididae as separate families, and only two subfamilies of Anisakidae, i.e., Anisakinae and Contracaecinae.

Journal of Parasitology, 2015Co-Authors: Camila Pantoja, J N Borges, C P Santos, Jose L LuqueAbstract:Morphological and genetic data on the larvae of Anisakidae parasitizing the sandperches Pseudopercis numida and Pinguipes brasilianus were recorded from Cabo Frio, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (23°S, 42°W). Twenty-five specimens of P. numida and 25 specimens of P. brasilianus were necropsied. The 352 larvae collected included 1 Anisakis sp., 344 Hysterothylacium sp., and 7 Raphidascaris sp. We present mtDNA sequence data for Anisakis sp. and Hysterothylacium sp., and we sequenced the ITS ribosomal DNA (rDNA) of Hysterothylacium sp. and Raphidascaris sp. The morphological and genetic profiles confirmed the identification of Anisakis typica (Diesing, 1860). Hysterothylacium sp. and Raphidascaris sp. were not identified to the species level due to the absence of similar sequences for adult parasites. The mtDNA sequence of Hysterothylacium sp. from P. numida showed a high similarity to the sequence of Hysterothylacium deardorffoverstreetorum. However, a phylogenetic analysis demonstrated the presence of different clades under the same name as the larval H. deardorffoverstreetorum. Pseudopercis numida is a new host record for A. typica.

Thirty six specimens of L. gastrophysus were necropsied. The fishes were obtained in Cabo Frio, north coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro (23o S and 42o W) and the municipality of Rio de Janeiro, from the coast of Rio de Janeiro state (21-23° S and 41-45° W). We found five species of anisakid larvae: Anisakis type I, Terranova sp., Contracaecum sp., Hysterothylacium sp. and Raphidascaris sp. The larvae of Anisakis type I were found with prevalence (P) of 22.2% and mean abundace (MA) of 0.53 larvae per host necropsied. The third stage larvae of Terranova sp. were collected with a P=8.3% and MA=0.08. Contracaecum sp. was observed at P=8.3% and MA=0.08. Hysterothylacium sp. was observed at P=25% and MA=0.47. The larvae of Raphidascaris sp. were recorded with P=11.1% and MA=0.42. The present study is the first record of Anisakis type I, Terranova sp. and Contracaeum sp. parasitizing L. gastrophysus of the coast of the Rio de Janeiro state. portuguesO objetivo do presente trabalho e registrar e fornecer dados morfologicos e quantitativos de larvas de Anisakidae que parasitam Lophius gastrophysus Miranda-Ribeiro, 1915, uma especie de peixe marinho de importância comercial, no litoral do estado do Rio de Janeiro. Foram necropsiados 36 especimes de L. gastrophysus. Os peixes foram obtidos em entrepostos de pescados localizados no municipio de Cabo Frio, litoral norte do estado do Rio de Janeiro (23o S e 42o W) e no municipio do Rio de Janeiro, oriundos da costa maritima do estado do Rio de Janeiro, (21-23o S e 41-45o W). Foram encontradas cinco especies de larvas de nematoides Anisakidae: Anisakis Tipo I, Terranova sp., Contracaecum sp., Hysterothylacium sp. e Raphidascaris sp. As larvas de Anisakis Tipo I foram encontradas com prevalencia (P) de 22,2% e abundância media (AM) de 0,53 larvas por hospedeiro necropsiado. As larvas de terceiro estagio de Terranova sp. foram coletadas com P=8,3% e com AM=0,08. Contracaecum sp. foram observadas com P=8,3% e AM=0,08. Foi encontrado o tipo larval Hysterothylacium sp. com P=25% e AM=0,47. As larvas de Raphidascaris sp. foram registradas com P=11,1% e AM=0,42. O presente estudo e o primeiro registro da ocorrencia de Anisakis tipo I, Terranova sp. e Contracaeum sp. parasitando L. gastrophysusdo litoral do estado do Rio de Janeiro.
