Antimicrobial Screening of selected medicinal plants from india
Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 1997Co-Authors: R Valsaraj, Palpu Pushpangadan, Ulla Wagner Smitt, Anne Adsersen, Ulf NymanAbstract:From the Indian traditional medicines 78 plants were selected on the basis of their use in the treatment of infectious diseases. Different concentrations of 80% ethanol extracts were tested, using the agar dilution method, against four bacteria: Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa and, using the agar-well diffusion method, against two fungi: Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger. In the lowest tested concentration of 1.6 mg/ml, 10% of the plant extracts were active; 44% in a concentration of 6.25 mg/ml and 90% of the plant extracts were active against at least two bacteria in a concentration of 25 mg/ml. Only 13% of the plant extracts were active against at least one fungus in a concentration of 50 mg/ml.

Synthesis of some new substituted iodoquinazoline derivatives and their Antimicrobial Screening
Journal of Saudi Chemical Society, 2011Co-Authors: Ahmed M. Alafeefy, Adel S. El-azab, Menshawy A. Mohamed, Mohamed Afroz Bakhat, S.g. Abdel-hamidAbstract:Abstract A new series of 6-iodo-2-thienylquinazolin-4(3H)-one and its fused heterocyclic analogs were prepared and screened for their Antimicrobial activity. Compounds 4, 8, 14 and 24 showed remarkable broad spectrum Antimicrobial activity. The fused heterocycles, 1,2,4-triazino[3,4-c]quinazoline, benzimidazo[1,2-c]quinazoline and quinazoline-bearing thiazolidinone moiety proved to contribute for Antimicrobial activity. The detailed synthesis and their Antimicrobial Screening are reported.

Antimicrobial Screening of Cichorium intybus seed extracts
Arabian Journal of Chemistry, 2016Co-Authors: Tauseef Shaikh, Rukhsana A. Rub, S. SasikumarAbstract:Abstract Medicinal plants play an important role in the field of natural products and human health care system. Chemical constituents present in the various parts of the plants can resist to parasitic attack by using several defense mechanisms. One such mechanism is the synthesis of Antimicrobial compound. Cichorium intybus is one of the important medicinal plants which belong to Asteraceae family. In the present work, Antimicrobial Screening of C. intybus seed extract was studied by agar well diffusion assay by using aqueous and organic extracts. The pathogenic microorganisms tested include Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans and Escherichia coli. All the seed extracts showed Antimicrobial activity against tested microorganisms whereas S. aureus was found to be most sensitive against aqueous extract and had the widest zone of inhibition. Ethyl acetate and ethanol extract were found to be significant against P. aeruginosa and S. aureus. The results obtained from Antimicrobial Screening scientifically support the effectiveness of the medicinal plant.
