    'Oecologia Australis', 2018
Co-Authors: Sovrano, Lorena Vanesa, Beltzer, Adolfo Hector, Regner, Silvia Alejandra, Ceppi, Guillermo Nicolas, Molina Maldonado, Maria Belen
    Abstract:

Species of Philornis (Diptera, Muscidae) are Neotropical dipterans that include parasitic larvae which feed on nestling birds. No information exists about the Striated Heron Butorides striata (Aves, Ardeidae) as a potential host for Philornis. Here, we present the first report of the occurrence of Philornis sp. in B. striata. Young specimens of the Striated Heron had about 17 larvae of this parasite. Larvae were observed from the 4th - 5th day after the hatching of the herons. Further investigation is needed to determine the impacts of this parasite on this new host, which occurrence may be related to environmental factors.Fil: Sovrano, Lorena Vanesa. • RIQUEZA DE AVES EN EL PARQUE ECOLÓGICO MUNICIPAL JOSÉ GAZZANO (PARANÁ, ENTRE RÍOS, ARGENTINA)
    Universidad Nacional del Litoral, 2017
    Co-Authors: Sovrano, Lorena Vanesa
    Abstract:

    Oecologia Australis, 2018
Co-Authors: Lorena Vanesa Sovrano, Adolfo H. Beltzer, Silvia Alejandra Regner, Guillermo Ceppi, María Belén Molina
    Abstract:

    UNED Research Journal, 2013
Co-Authors: Rodrigo Ezequiel Lorenzon, Ana Laura Ronchi Virgolini, Adolfo H. Beltzer
    Abstract:

Feeding ecology of Great Egret Ardea alba (Pelecaniformes: Ardeidae) in a wetland of the Parana River, Argentina.  Herons as a group have contributed substantially to the field of evolutionary ecology through studies that have helped elucidate mechanisms that allow coexistence of sympatric species. Detailed descriptions of feeding ecology are essential for understanding mechanisms of coexistence. Despite being one of the most common species in Argentina, detailed studies on the feeding ecology of Great Egrets Ardea alba are scarce. We studied Great Egret feeding ecology through an analysis of the stomach contents of 38 individuals captured between 1990 and 1993 in a wetland on the Parana River, Argentina. The diet included a total of 33 taxa, with fishes as the predominant prey item. The predominance of fishes in the diet agrees with results of previous studies.  There was, however, no evidence of dietary selectivity. The largest proportion of prey (40%) were 21 – 30mm in length. Distribution of prey sizes differed between the Great Egret and the sympatric and congeneric Cocoi Heron (Ardea cocoi).Great Egrets primarily foraging in areas characterized by aquatic vegetation and in areas with open water.KEY WORDSArdea alba, Ardeidae, diet, Great Egret, Parana river, stomach content, wetland.

    Abstract:

Kata kunci: Ardeidae, burung, Kibang Pacing, populasi ABSTRAK BAHASA INGGRIS Kibang pacing village with 83,55 km2 area, is located at the East of Menggala Timur sub district. This area is valley which most of the area has been used for coconut oil cultivation. The changed of this area made the vegetation cover this area changed from a multi stration area to the mono stration. This changed over the area caused the hampered of nature habitat component and the population of kinds of animals, especially Ardeidae water bird. To know the Ardeidae population in this research with use point count three method. This research done for 18 days effectively with stayed at the point and noted the birds founded. The result of research done analyze and can be used to count this population and distribution pattern of Ardeidae species. Based on the research showed the population is 64 birds blekok rice, 4 Cinnamon Bittern bird, 11 red cangak birds, 89 great egret birds, 333 little egret birds, 112 buffalo birds. The mean of all Ardeidae family was 133 birds. The lowest population of Ardeidae was 4 birds Julyanto and the highest was 333 birds. The distribution patern of Ardeidae population at Kibang Pacing village is group pattern. Keywords : Ardeidae, bird, Kibang Pacing, population
