Increasing students' interest to explore science by integrating STEM in the learning process is the main agenda for the global education system to ensure the learning outcome for students to excel in the future is achieved. Therefore, the need to cultivate the attitude towards STEM and the motivation to learn science is the drive in the development of students' STEM Career interest. Hence, this research will 1) Identify the direct effect of attitude towards STEM and 2) Identify the effect of mediator which is motivation to learn science towards the development of students' STEM Career interest. This research is a quantitative research that uses questionnaire forms. The research respondents are comprised of 419 Form 4 science stream students in Selangor, Malaysia. The result from the study can answer the research questions by proving the influence of attitude towards STEM is significant (p=.002) and the huge effect of motivation in science as mediator (R2=.458) towards the development of students' STEM Career interest. The result of the study is hoped to be able to give meaningful input towards students' learning as well as the importance of attitude towards STEM, and the motivation to learn science as a mediator could contribute towards detailed curriculum design and the teaching of science so that it will become more meaningful towards students' future.

In Indonesia, Vocational High Schools (VHSs) are designed to prepare graduates for a specific job. Selecting the types of English that suits the needs of vocational students is paramount importance to support their vocational skill in the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). This study aims to reveal: (1) Vocational High School (VHS) students’ English perceived needs, (2) VHS students’ Career Aspirations toward study program they are taking, (3) the effect of students’ perception of their English program (EGP and ESP) on their Career Aspirations, and (4) the differences in the students’ perception of their English program (EGP and ESP) by demographic variables (gender and study program). This was quantitative research in the form of a correlational study. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, multiple regression, and multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA). The findings indicated that: (1) Most VHS students' English perceived need was ESP. Nevertheless, it was also undeniable that they also still needed EGP for their English before they took ESP. (2) Most VHS students did not have mature Career Aspirations related to the study program they were taking at vocational high school. (3) Furthermore, there was a significant effect of students' perception (EGP and ESP) on their Career Aspirations. (4) Regarding differences between male and female's perception of English program and differences in students’ study program, the results of this study revealed significant differences among them. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan: (1) persepsi kebutuhan Bahasa Inggris siswa sekolah menengah kejuruan (SMK), (2) kesesuaian aspirasi karir siswa SMK terkait dengan program studi yang mereka ambil, (3) pengaruh persepsi siswa SMK tentang program bahasa Inggris mereka (EGP dan ESP) terhadap aspirasi karir mereka. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif dalam bentuk penelitian korelasional. Subjeknya adalah 526 siswa dari 10 SMK negeri di Yogyakarta pada semester dua. Penelitian ini menggunakan dua angket: (1) angket persepsi dengan skala Likert 4 poin digunakan untuk mengetahui kebutuhan bahasa Inggris siswa: apakah bahasa Inggris untuk tujuan umum atau bahasa Inggris untuk tujuan khusus, yang diadaptasi dari Tabatabaei & Mokhtari (2014); (2) angket aspirasi karir dengan skala Likert 4 poin untuk mengetahui aspirasi karir siswa, yang diadaptasi dari Gregor & O'Brien (2016) menggunakan Skala Aspirasi Karir- Revisi. Data dianalisis menggunakan analisis deskriptif, Pearson product-moment, dan analisis regresi ganda dengan perangkat lunak SPSS versi 24. Hasil penelitian ini adalah sebagai berikut. (1) Sebagian besar kebutuhan bahasa Inggris yang dirasa dibutuhkan oleh siswa SMK adalah ESP. Namun demikian, tidak dapat dipungkiri bahwa mereka juga masih membutuhkan EGP untuk bahasa Inggris mereka sebelum mereka belajar ESP. (2) Sebagian besar siswa SMK tidak memiliki aspirasi karir yang matang terkait dengan program studi yang mereka ambil di sekolah. International Journal of Technology and Design Education, 2019Co-Authors: Cecilia K Y Chan, Nai Chi Jonathan Yeung, Peter Kutnick, Rosanna Yuenyan ChanAbstract:While many Career development theories (e.g., Gottfredson, in: Brown SD, Lent RW (eds), Career development and counseling: Putting theory and research to work, Wiley, Hoboken, 2005) posit that occupational perceptions are fundamental for understanding youngsters’ Career Aspirations, research relating school students’ perceptions of engineers and students’ Career interest in engineering has been scarce. This study sought to (a) identify the factors underlying the image of engineers to secondary school students, (b) test the invariance of the factors’ measurement model across gender and school years, and (c) examine the hypothesis that the factors mediate the effects of engineering experiences at school on students’ Career interest. Data were collected via a questionnaire from a representative sample of 3724 students at Hong Kong. A measurement model with four latent perception factors (innovation and entrepreneurship competencies; aptitudes related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics; hands-on work status; and Career prestige) fit the responses well and was replicable across gender and school years. Construct validity of the factors was supported by the pattern of their partial mediation effects in the relationship between students’ experiences and their Career interest in engineering. The results deepened the understanding of the image of engineers and the image’s influences on students’ Career Aspiration in engineering. The perception dimensions identified provide a framework useable for engineering education in school.

Hospitality service climate, employee service orientation, Career Aspiration and performance: A moderated mediation model
International Journal of Hospitality Management, 2017Co-Authors: Songshan HuangAbstract:Abstract This study tested a moderated mediation model involving hospitality employees’ service climate perception, service orientation, Career Aspiration and service performance. Using a sample of 500 frontline service employees in ten restaurants of a hospitality chain company in China, the study found that employees’ service orientation partially mediated the relationship between service climate and self-reported/supervisor-reported service performance. Furthermore, Career Aspiration moderated the mediation effect of service orientation between service climate and self-reported service performance. However, such a moderating effect was not confirmed when service performance was measured by supervisors’ ratings. The study highlights the importance of employees’ service orientation and Career Aspiration in hospitality human resource management practices.
