    Abstract:

    Catenaria anguillulae parasitized and killed the eggs and second stage juveniles (J2) of Meloidogyne graminicola under natural conditions. The percentage of infection in eggs was higher than J2 of M.␣graminicola, which ranged between 0–50.3% and 0–18.9% in 2004 and 0–46.6% and 0–21.7% in 2005, respectively. The higher parasitism of eggs and J2 was recorded from those fields in which plants were severely infected with M. graminicola. The degree of parasitism of eggs and J2 by C. anguillulae varied with severity of root knot disease. The fields with a higher root gall index recorded a higher percentage of infection in eggs and J2 of M. graminicola. In general, old galls when teased and incubated, recorded higher parasitism of eggs and juveniles than young galls.

    Abstract:

    The parasitism of eggs of Meloidogyne incognita by the zoospores of Catenaria anguillulae was differed between isolates collected from different agroclimaric zones of cultivated soils. Maximum eggs were parasitised by zoospores of VF isolate of C. anguillulae with increasing temperature i.e., 6.33, 57.57, 65.33 and 79.11% at 25, 30, 35 and 40°C respectively after 48 hrs of inoculation. Eggs containing second stage juveniles were invaded by zoospores and killed within 24 hrs of inoculation. At 40°C,zoospores of VF isolate parasitised and killed 53.66% juveniles followed by 50.66, 47.66 and 46.66% respectively of three week, two week, one week and freshly hatched in 48 hrs if inoculation. Among the three organic substrates, FYM amended soil recorded maximum increase in the population of C. anguillulae followed by wheat bran and neem oil-cake. Mass culture of C. anguillulae (Isolate VF) effectively reduced the number of root-knots/galls in brinjal, when applied in combination with organic substrates in nematode infested soil.

    Abstract:

    Growth, morphology, visibility of sporangia and colony colour of 10 isolates of Catenaria anguillulae were compared on six media: linseed oil-cake agar, mustard oil-cake agar, neem oil-cake agar, beef extract agar, Emerson agar and YPSS agar with a view to selecting the best growth medium. In general, maximum radial growth of most of the isolates was recorded on linseed oil-cake agar medium, whereas neem oil-cake agar medium supported least growth of all the isolates of C. anguillulae. Linseed oil-cake agar medium also maintained the typical characters of the fungus and clear visibility of morphological details.

    Abstract:

    A survey of soils from 39 different locations from 12 states of India for the presence/absence of Catenaria anguillulae indicated a wide distribution of the fungus in Indian soils. Out of 490 soil samples, 451 yielded C. anguillulae. Further, it was also noted that the fungus is present throughout the year in soils from the different locations irrespective of soil types and crops grown. This is the first report of this kind on distribution of C. anguillulae from India.

    Abstract:

    Catenaria anguillulae has been reported to cause disease of nematodes and may be a potential biocontrol agent. Brans of wheat, rice, pea, pigeonpea, lentil and chickpea; meals of maize, soyabean and chickpea; straws of mustard, linseed, wheat and rice; and saw dust, farmyard manure and molasses were tested to identify a substrate that is most suitable for mass culture of C. anguillulae. Only six substrates supported the growth of the fungus, with maximum growth on wheat bran agar medium followed byfarmyard manure agar. Different concentrations of wheat bran were tested and a concentration of 6% supported maximum growth of the fungus. Wheat bran and sand along with 0.5% linseed oil-cake were tested in different ratios 3:97, 6:94, 12:88, 18:82, 24:76, 30:70, 50:50 and 75:25 for the mass culture of C. anguillulae. Wheat bran and sand (w:w) 12:88 showed very good growth of the fungus. Farmyard manure, pea bran and maize meal were also tested for mass culture and compared with wheat bran in the aboveratio (12:88). Wheat bran was superior to other substrates for mass culture of C. anguillulae.

    Abstract:

    Risers sao estruturas tubulares utilizadas em sistemas de producao de petroleo offshore para transportar os fluidos produzidos da cabeca do poco no solo marinho a uma unidade flutuante no nivel do mar. Essas estruturas podem ser fabricadas com diferente materiais, incluindo diversos tipos de aco, titânio e materiais compositos, e instalados em diversas configuracoes, desde Catenaria livre a configuracoes que incluem boias e flutuadores. Independente do material e configuracao, todos os risers estao sujeitos a diversos carregamentos, incluindo pressao interna e externa, correntes, ondas e movimento da plataforma (offset). O projeto de um riser envolve muitos parâmetros, considerando tambem aspectos relacionados ao custo e a seguranca. Assim, a selecao de um riser com desempenho estrutural aceitavel para determinado cenario pode se tornar um processo exaustivo, e, portanto, deve ser tratado como um problema de otimizacao. A utilizacao de algoritmos de programacao matematica nao e viavel nesse caso, pois alguns dos parâmetros do design de um riser podem assumir valores discretos. E necessario entao utilizar algoritmos metaheuristicos, como Algoritmos Geneticos (AG) e Otimizacao por Enxame de Particulas (PSO). Nesse contexto, esse trabalho apresenta um estudo da aplicacao de algoritmos bio-inspirados, incluindo AG e PSO, para otimizacao de risers de aco em Catenaria. O modelo de otimizacao proposto visa reduzir o custo de fabricacao do riser. As variaveis de projeto sao o material e espessura do riser, que pode possuir multiplos trechos com propriedades diferentes. A analise e feita utilizando modelo de cabo inextensivel. Diferentes casos de carga sao considerados e as restricoes sao definidas de acordo com normas tecnicas internacionais. Risers para tres cenarios distintos, com diferentes lâminas d’agua, foram otimizados e os resultados obtidos demonstram a adequacao do modelo.

    Abstract:

    Risers sao tubos que conectam uma estrutura flutuante offshore aos equipamentos e dutos situados no fundo do mar, tanto para fins de producao quanto para perfuracao, injecao ou exportacao. Com a crescente demanda por petroleo e gas, lâminas d’agua cada vez maiores sao exploradas, o que acaba encarecendo a producao dessas estruturas, alem de problemas de fadiga e altas tensoes de topo. Os materiais compositos, entao, surgem como alternativa. As altas relacoes resistencia/peso e rigidez/peso e boa resistencia a corrosao e fadiga os tornam bastante atrativos para a fabricacao de riser. E objetivo deste trabalho, utilizando metodos computacionais, propor um modelo de otimizacao capaz de encontrar projetos otimos de risers de material composito em Catenaria, visando a reducao do custo de fabricacao do riser atraves da minimizacao da quantidade de material composito necessario, sem comprometer a seguranca, durabilidade e estabilidade da estrutura. As variaveis de projeto sao de natureza discreta, seja por restricao de fabricacao ou nao, sao elas: numero de lâminas, espessura e orientacao de cada uma delas. Utilizaram-se, para tanto, dois dos mais conhecidos algoritmos bioinspirados: os Algoritmos Geneticos e a Otimizacao por Enxame de Particula. O modelo simula diferentes cenarios de acordo com os dados de entrada; foi possivel estudar, por exemplo, o uso das propriedades do material composito no estado intacto e no estado degradado em conjunto ou nao com liners metalicos ou polimericos para diferentes lâminas d’agua; cobrindo, dessa forma, uma diversidade de cenarios aos quais os risers podem estar submetidos. Devido o grande custo computacional da analise de risers, foram utilizados modelos simplificados baseados na integracao numerica das equacoes diferenciais de cabos submetidos a forcas verticais e forcas de arrasto. Os resultados obtidos demonstraram a adaptabilidade do modelo em projetar risers compositos para diferentes cenarios e consolidam a formulacao proposta.

    Abstract:

    El peso de un cable lo somete a una carga uniformemente distribuida en toda su longitud. La forma asumida por el cable se denomina Catenaria y la tension varia en toda su longitud. Con este trabajo se caracteriza la respuesta estructural de un cable sometido al efecto de su peso propio y suspendido entre dos apoyos fijos situados a distinto nivel. Con la formulacion desarrollada, el problema se reduce a la resolucion de un sistema no lineal de dos ecuaciones con dos incognitas en terminos de las reacciones vertical y horizontal en uno de los apoyos. Es posible formular facilmente el metodo de Newton-Raphson para este problema especifico, dado que el sistema lineal obtenido en el planteamiento es 2 × 2, lo cual permite abordar la solucion de manera explicita. Con el fin de demostrar la validez y la importancia de la formulacion numerica, se efectua una comparacion con la formulacion analitica de cables con soportes localizados a igual nivel, para lo cual, se recurre a algunos de los resultados encontrados en el ejercicio numerico, como son, la tension en el punto mas bajo del cable (H) y la coordenada horizontal (x(s)) en este punto, ya que estos, son parametros de partida de la formulacion analitica. Tambien, se realiza un modelo de identicas caracteristicas con una version educativa del programa comercial de elementos finitos Ansys. Finalmente, se esquematizan unas graficas donde se presentan la geometria del cable y los valores de tension en cada uno de los puntos equiespaciados, para las tres formulaciones.

    Abstract:

    The weight of a cable subjects it to a load evenly distributed in all its longitude. The form assumed by the cable is called catenarie, and the tension varies in all its longitude. With the present work, the structural answer of a cable subject to its own weight and suspended between two fixed supports located at different level, is characterized. With the developed formulation, the problem consists of the resolution of a non linear system of two equations with two variables in terms of the vertical and horizontal reactions in one of the supports. It is possible to formulate Newton-Raphson method easily, for this specific problem, since the linear system obtained in the formulation of the method is 2×2, that which allows approaching the solution in an explicit way. With the purpose of demonstrating the validity and importance of the numerical formulation, a comparison with the analytic formulation of cables with supports located at same level, is made, for this, it is appealed some of the results found in the numerical exercise, like they are, the tension in the lowest point (H) and the horizontal coordinate (x(s)) in this point, since these, are beginning parameters of the analytic formulation. Also, an identical model is made with an educational version of the commercial program of finite elements, Ansys. Finally, some graphs that present the geometry of the cable and the values of tension in each one of the equally spaced points are schematized for the three formulations.

    Studies on the occurrence of aquatic microorganisms in the newest water reservoir Zarzeczany village were carried out in years 2001-2004. Hydro chemical analysis was performed using standard methods. Bait method was used to isolate the fungi. In the reservoir 52 fungi species were identified: fish pathogenic Achlya debaryana, A. polyandra, Aphanomyces laevis, Dictyuchus monosporus, D. sterile, Saprolegnia ferax, S. monoica, S. parasitica, human pathogenic Candida albicans, C. tropicalis and Trichosporon cutaneum, decomposing keratin Blastocladiopsis parva, Catenaria anguillulae, C. verrucosa, Catenophlyctis variabilis, Lagenidium humanum, Rhizophydium keratinophilum, and decomposing chitin Aphanomyces astaci, Karlingia chitinophila, Rhizidium chitinophilum, Asterophlyctis irregularis and Blastocladiella brytanica.

  • Aquatic Fungi Growing on Feathers of Wild and Domestic Bird Species in Limnologically Different Water Bodies

    The mycoflora developing on the feathers of wild and domestic bird species in the water of 6 limnologically different water bodies was investigated under laboratory conditions. 97 zoosporic fungus species were found to grow on the feathers investigated, including 21 Chytridiomycetes, 1 Hyphochytriomycetes, 74 Oomycetes and 1 Zygomycetes fungus. The most common fungus species included Chytriomycetes annulatus, Rhizophydium keratinophilum, Blastocladiopsis parva, Catenaria anguillulae, Catenophlyctis variabilis, Aphanomyces helicoides, Aphanomyces irregularis, Leptolegniella piligena, Pythium afertile, Pythium aquatile, Pythium echinulatum, Pythium intermedium and Pythium tenue. The most fungi were noted growing in water from Cypisek spring (64), the fewest in the ponds Akcent (45) and Fosa (47 species). Out of these 97 species, 17 are known as parasites or necrotrophs of fish. 13 fungus species were recorded for the first time in Poland.
