APPLICATION OF FOURIER TRANSFORM INFRARED SPECTROSCOPY FOR QUALITY CONTROL OF PHARMACEUTICAL PRODUCTS: A REVIEW
'Indonesian Journal of Pharmacy', 2012Co-Authors: Rahman AbdulAbstract:Analysis of pharmaceutical products covers all aspects of quality control of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) and finished products. Today, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR)spectroscopy, especially in combination with Chemometrics Software, has emerged as one of the romising analytical techniques to be used in pharmaceutical industry, for quality control of desired pharmaceutical products. Compared with other instrumental techniques, FTIR spectroscopy offers some advantages, namely it is rapid, simple in sample preparation, and not destructive. In this review, the application of FTIR spectroscopy for qualitative and quantitative determinations of API and monitoring drug release are described.Key words: FTIR spectroscopy, quality control, pharmaceutical products

parles Software for chemometric analysis of spectroscopic data
Chemometrics and Intelligent Laboratory Systems, 2008Co-Authors: Raphael Viscarra A RosselAbstract:This paper describes the development and implementation of ParLeS, Chemometrics Software for multivariate modelling and prediction. ParLeS is shareware that was developed for teaching and research in Chemometrics and spectroscopy; however, it may also be used with other types of multivariate data. ParLeS may be used to transform, preprocess and pretreat spectra using various algorithms; it may be used to implement principal components analysis (PCA); partial least squares regression (PLSR) with leave-n-out cross validation; and bootstrap aggregation-PLSR (bagging-PLSR). ParLeS facilitates the implementation of a large number of preprocessing techniques as well as bagging-PLSR, which can improve the robustness and accuracy of PLSR models. Other unique features of ParLeS include the provision of a number of assessment statistics and graphical output as well as a user-friendly interface and functionality. The implementation of ParLeS is demonstrated by modelling soil mid infrared (mid-IR) diffuse reflectance spectra for predictions of soil organic carbon.

research on Chemometrics Software based on parallel pls
Microcomputer Information, 2010Co-Authors: Luo GuoanAbstract:PLS which is commonly used in most Chemometrics Software always calculates in a single-threaded way, which brings low modeling speed and inconvenience to apply. With the popularization of the multi-core processor, multithread parallel computing technology could significantly boost the execution speed. In this paper, the multithreaded parallel computing technology was introduced into the development of Chemometrics Software.A kind of parallelizing calculation of PLS was proposed and actualized. The contrast experiment with two datasets demonstrated that multithread parallel computation on a quad-core computer achieved a speed of 3.1 times faster than that of a single-thread computation.

Evaluation of Near Infrared Spectroscopy for Sugarcane Quality Determination in Western Kenya
The International Institute for Science Technology and Education (IISTE), 2015Co-Authors: Ochola P., Apunda E. O., Yewa E. O.Abstract:In Kenya, sugar is produced exclusively from sugarcane cultivated in Nyanza, parts of Rift Valley counties, Western Kenya and coastal region. Since the industry inception in early 1900s, farmer payments for delivered milling sugarcane has been based on tonnage delivered, with no consideration for quality of cane. However, in early 2000s, Kenya, attempted to put in place structures for paying farmers based on quality as measured by sucrose content amongst other factors. An effective, fast and accurate method of determining such quality has been missing, thus delaying implementation. Near Infrared (NIR) spectroscopy has been suggested as an accurate, non destructive and high-speed method for estimating the quality of milling cane. This research evaluated performance of a Matrix-F FT NIR spectrophotometer for estimation of cane quality in Nzoia Sugar Company, western Kenya. A total of 688 milling cane samples were obtained from randomly selected trucks delivering cane to the factory using a core sampler. The samples were finely shredded and analyzed by a method combining wet disintegration and core press as the primary measurements and NIR. The NIR spectrometer was calibrated using OPUS Lab Chemometrics Software for pol, brix, fibre, moisture in cane . Results from wet chemistry were linearly regressed against the NIR results. The R2 values were 0.9787, 0.9503, 0.8432 and 0.8725 for brix, pol, moisture and fibre, respectively. The results demonstrate that NIR spectroscopic analysis is an acceptable method for use in Kenya for quality based cane payment system. Keywords: NIR spectroscopy, sugarcane quality, Kenya
