Building facility is like a catalyst that not only serve as an engine that energies every other sector of the economy but gives impetus to the developmental rating of the environment. We know that all business activities for both public and private sector are housed in a structure called building, production activities, medical and health care, agro based activities, educational activities, political activities, sports, transport sector to mention a few cannot operate proficiently without having direct or indirect need for housing facility. The production of building facility as we refer it to building Construction or developmental process attracts professionals from all fields of life and non professionals. Not only that, housing development employment cut across all categories of human endeavor. Building material production, marketing, distribution, supply, storage has a long and strong chain like impact on the economy as we know in commerce that production is not complete unless the products get to the hands of the final consumers. The income generated by way of receiving wages and salary, buying and selling by people within and outside the country contributes positively to the world economic growth. The investment attraction of building development by public and private sectors of the economy anchor on its indispensable and strategic importance as a solid rock of support and strength to all sectors of the economy. To the estate surveyor and Valuer, more than eighty percent of our professional activities revolves around building facility. To this end, any effort to encourage investment in building facility should be seen as a step in the right direction. One of the steps which form the main focal point of this paper is making sure that building developments are Project managed to achieve success thereby reducing the rate at which building Construction Projects fail, suffer abandonment and reduce if not eliminating the rate at which buildings collapse in Nigeria.

Mapping Approach for Examining Waste Management on Construction Sites

DrewAbstract:The increasing awareness of environmental impacts from Construction wastes has led to the development of waste manage- ment as an important function of Construction Project Management. Various approaches for managing Construction wastes have been developed in the existing research works and practices, and these works can be grouped largely into three areas: waste classification, waste Management strategies ~avoiding waste, reducing waste, reusing waste, and recycling waste!, and waste disposal technologies. Neverthe- less, these approaches give less attention to the Management of the waste handling process on Construction sites. In fact, Construction wastes pass through a number of processes from generation to final disposal, and proper flow of these processes can improve waste Management effectiveness. This paper examines the waste handling process during Construction through mapping six cases selected in Hong Kong Construction, with the assistance of the free-flow mapping presentation technique. The examination leads to developing a waste Management mapping model ~WMMM!, which incorporates the good operations embodied in the existing practices. The WMMM provides an alterative tool assisting in planning waste Management procedures on Construction sites. It can serve as a vehicle for comparing the waste Management practices between Construction sites, thus both good practices and weak areas can be identified.

Professional Construction Project Management, which is known as Construction supervision (CS) in China, was introduced into China's Construction industry in 1988. After more than 10 years of rapid growth, the further development of CS is challenged by a number of arising problems. Based on the findings of the survey, this paper highlights the most significant factors causing these problems. These factors are related not only to CS companies, but also to clients, other Construction professionals, and the environment of the Construction market. It is anticipated that the discussion of these factors will provide a basis for future strategies to promote the development of CS in China and also provide a useful reference for other developing countries which face similar problems in promoting the applications of professional Construction Project Management in the Construction industry.

To effectively manage change, Project managers have to undertake detailed planning; to integrate the work activities of consultants, subcontractors and suppliers. In this context, changes are unplanned disturbances that (typically) interfere with the intended progression of work. Given this 'interference', what are the consequences of such disturbances on Project performance and how can/do/should Project managers deal with changes effectively? This paper describes how changes (and their actions or effects otherwise known as dynamics) can impact the Project Management system. Using a case study and the methodology of systems dynamics, the major factors influencing a Project's performance are observed. The need for understanding of how particular dynamics can hinder the performance of a Project Management system are highlighted.
