    Abstract:

    ABSTRACT Rumput teki (Cyperus Rotundus L.) merupakan tumbuhan obat yang termasuk family Cyperaceae. Rumput teki merupakan gulma yang dapat tumbuh dengan mudah tanpa memilih tanah atau ketinggian tempat, dimana bagian tumbuhan yang sering digunakan adalah rimpang . Umbi teki ini mengandung komponen-komponen kimia antara lain minyak atsiri, alkaloid, flavonoid, polifenol, resin, amilum, tanin, triterpen, d-glukosa, d-fruktosa dan gula tak mereduksi . Beberapa penelitian yang telah dilaporkan menyebutkan rimpang rumput teki mempunyai aktivitas sebagai antibakteri. Hasil penelitian yang juga telah dilaporkan adalah ekstrak etanol rimpang teki mempunyai aktivitas antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus epidermidis , Minyak atsiri yang dikandung dalam rimpang rumput teki ini dilaporkan juga memiliki potensi sebagai antibiotik terhadap kuman Staphyllococcus aureus . P ada penelitian ini dilakukan uji aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak etanol rimpang rumput teki terhadap Staphyllococcus aureus, yang dilanjutkan dengan formulasi bedak tabur ekstrak etanol rimpang rumput teki dan uji daya antiseptic bedak dengan metoda replika. Hasil uji aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak etanol rimpang rumput teki terhadap Staphylococus aureus termasuk kategori kuat. Ekstrak etanol rim pang rumput teki (Cyperus Rotundus L.) dapat diformula menjadi bedak tabur yang memenuhi persayaratan bedak tabur, dari semua formula F3 memiliki daya antiseptic yang paling baik dibandingkan F1 dan F2. Kata Kunci : Cyperus Rotundus, Staphyllococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, bedak tabur ABSTRACT Cyperus Rotundus L is a medicinal plant that belongs to the Cyperaceae family. Cyperus Rotundus. L is a weed that can grow easily without choosing the soil or altitude of the place, the part of the plant that is often used is the rhizome. This rhizome contains chemical components such as essential oils, alkaloids, flavonoids, polyphenols, resins, starch, tannins, triterpenes, d-glucose, d-fructose and non-reducing sugars. Several studies have reported that Cyperus Rotundus L rhizome has activity as antibacterial. The results of the study also reported that ethanol extract of rhizomes have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis. The essential oils contained in this rhizome are reported to have potential as antibiotics against Staphyllococcus aureus bacteria. In this research, the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of rhizome Cyperus Rotundus L was applied to Staphyllococcus aureus, followed by powder formulation of ethanol extract of rhizomes and antiseptic powder test with replica method. The results of antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of rhizome of rhizome of grass against Staphylococus aureus belong to strong category. The ethanol extract of rhizome Cyperus Rotundus L can be formulated into a powder that meets the peremptance of powder, of all the formula F3 has the best antiseptic power compared to F1 and F2.

  • Penetration Test of Gel Ethanol Extract of Cyperus Rotundus L. Rhizomes

    Abstract:

    In vitro penetration has been done on ethanol extract from tuber root of teki grass (Cyperus Rotundus L.) with concentration 7% in gel. The penetration test was conducted by two membranes that are whatman paper No.1 with Spangler fluid modification and skin of mice. The test was observed every hour for 3 hours by using Franz diffusion cells. Extract compounds and compounds in penetration liquid were analyzed by GCMS and compared to profile of extract compound. Profile of compounds of both extract and penetration test are same and showed contain some volatile compounds such caryophyllene oxide, Sphatulenol, Alloaromadendrene, Iso-velerenal, 1-Limonene, Globulol, Beta-Guaiene, and Beta-Citronellol. Based on this assay can be concluded that ethanol extract of Cyperus Rotundus in gel formula can be penetrated through two membranes that are Spangler and skin of mice.

    Abstract:

    Staphylococcus aureus dapat menyebabkan bisul, jerawat, impetigo, infeksi luka, infeksi nosokomial, kerusakan jaringan disertai furunkel atau abses yang diikuti dengan reaksi radang yang mengalami pernanahan. Penggunaan antibiotik yang tidak benar dapat menyebabkan resistensi kuman terhadap antibiotik. Akar rumput teki salah satu tumbuhan yang dapat dijadikan antibiotik alami terhadap infeksi Staphylococcus aureus karena memiliki kandungan zat-zat antibakteri berupa minyak atsiri, flavonoid, alkaloid, saponin, tanin, dan seskuiterpenoid.Tujuan penelitian mengetahui adanya pengaruh rebusan akar rumput teki (Cyperus Rotundus Linn) terhadap pertumbuhan Stapylococcus aureus. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Mikrobiologi Prodi D3 Analis Kesehatan Fakultas Ilmu Kesehatan Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya. Jenis penelitian eksperimental laboratorium dengan total sampel 24 sampel yang terdiri 6 konsentrasi dan 4 pengulangan. Menggunakan metode dilusi mengamati ada tidaknya pertumbuhan bakteri. Penelitian ini menggunakan konsentrasi 100%, 70%, 65%, 60%, 55% dan 0% berdasarkan dengan uji pendahuluan. Variabel bebas adalah rebusan akar rumput teki (Cyperus Rotundus Linn) sedangkan variabel terikat adalah pertumbuhan Stapylococcus aureus. Analisis data menggunakan uji anova dengan tingkat kesalahan 5% (0,05). Dan uji lanjutan menggunakan uji Tukey’s Honest Significant Difference (Tukey’s HSD). Dari hasil penelitian disimpulkan bahwa ada pengaruh pemberian rebusan akar rumput teki (Cyperus Rotundus Linn) terhadap Staphylococcus aureus. Setelah dilakukan uji lanjutan dengan uji Tukey’s HSD didapatkan Konsentrasi Hambat Minimun (KHM) adalah 60%. Kata Kunci: Antibiotik, Staphylococcus aureus, Rumput Teki (Cyperus Rotundus Linn)

    Abstract:

    Cyperus Rotundus L.   is one of the plants that can be used as a traditional medicine.  This rhizome contains essential oils that have potential as antibiotics against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Some of the infections caused by this gram-positive bacteria are abcess, acne, impetigo, and scarring infections. The ease of use and effectiveness Cyperus Rotundus  L. rhizome on the skin as the antibacterial  could be improved by formulating in cream preparations. This study aims to determine the effect of the cream base on the physical properties of the cream and the antibacterial acitivity of the Cyperus Rotundus L. rhizome ethanol extract on Staphylococcus aureus. This type of research is experimental research, using the diffusion method and the diameter of the inhibition zone. The physical properties of the cream (organoleptic, dispersion, adhesion and protection ability) and antibacterial activity were tested in this study. The analysis used in this research is descriptive analysis. The results showed that cream of the ethanol extract of Cyperus Rotundus rhizome at a concentration of 5%, 7.5%, and 10% has a good physical/organoleptic appearance, spreadability, and good protective ability. Meanwhile, the entire cream of the Cyperus Rotundus L. rhizome ethanol extract showed poor adhesion. The cream of ethanol extract of Cyperus Rotundus L. rhizome showed antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 at concentrations of 10%.Rumput Teki (Cyperus Rotundus L.) merupakan salah satu tanaman yang dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai obat tradisional. Rimpang tanaman ini mengandung minyak atsiri yang berpotensi sebagai antibiotik terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus. Beberapa penyakit infeksi yang disebabkan oleh bakteri gram positif ini adalah bisul, jerawat, impetigo, dan infeksi luka. Kemudahan penggunaan dan efektivitas rimpang rumput Teki pada kulit sebagai antibakteri dapat ditingkatkan dengan memformulasikan dalam sediaan krim. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh basis krim terhadap sifat fisik krim serta aktivitas antibakteri dari ekstrak etanol rimpang rumput Teki terhadap Staphylococcus aureus. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimental, dengan menggunakan metode difusi dan diameter zona hambat. Sifat fisik krim (organoleptis, daya sebar, daya lekat dan kemampuan proteksi) dan aktivitas antibakteri diuji dalam penelitian ini. Analisis yang digunakan dalam penelitan ini adalah analisis deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa krim ekstrak etanol rimpang rumput Teki (Cyperus Rotundus L.)  pada konsentrasi 5%, 7,5%, dan 10% memiliki penampilan fisik/organoleptis, daya sebar, dan kemampuan proteksi yang baik. Sementara itu, keseluruhan krim ekstrak etanol rimpang rumput Teki menunjukkan daya lekat yang kurang baik. Krim ekstrak etanol rimpang rumput Teki (Cyperus Rotundus L.) menunjukkan aktivitas antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923  pada konsentrasi 10% ditandai dengan adanya zona hambat

    Abstract:

    Abstract Ethnopharmacological relevance In Ayurveda, the rhizome of Cyperus Rotundus Linn has been reported for wide spectrum of biological activities including lactational therapy for increasing milk quantity. However, not a single report is available on validation of its herbal galactagogue potentiality in literature. Thus, the present study is aimed to assess the lactogenic property of aqueous extract of Cyperus Rotundus (CRE). Materials and methods The effect of aqueous extract of Cyperus Rotundus rhizome was evaluated by measuring weight of the pups during suckling period. Quantitatively, total protein and carbohydrate contents of mammary tissue and serum prolactin and cortisol level were calculated. Histopathological analysis of mammary gland, pituitary gland, heart, liver, spleen, kidney, and ovary tissues was carried out. Acute toxicity of CRE against rat was assessed by the Hippocratic test and biochemical profile of blood serum. Results Oral administration of 300 and 600 mg of CRE induced about 23% and 40% more milk in experimental group of animals as compared to the control group of animals. Weight gain by pups and mother rats of treated groups were significantly higher following administration of CRE as compared to that of control group. Moreover protein and carbohydrate content of mammary gland tissue were also significantly more than control group of animals. The CRE was found to stimulate the synthesis of prolactin significantly. In addition, the mammary gland tissues of experimental group showed obvious lobulo-alveolar development with milk secretion. Administration of CRE did not cause any signs or symptoms of toxicity which implied that Cyperus Rotundus is toxicologically safe. Conclusion This study demonstrates that the aqueous extract of Cyperus Rotundus can stimulate milk production in the female rats which may be consequently effective in increasing the lactation of human too.
