  • New Approach to Diagnostics of Dc Machines by Sound Recognition Using Linear Predictive Coding
    Human-Computer Systems Interaction, 2009
    Co-Authors: Adam Glowacz, W. Głowacz
    Abstract:

A new approach to determination of similarity of Dc Machine sounds is presented. This approach is based on Linear Predictive Coding (LPC) algorithm and some metrics of distance in multidimensional solution space. The aim of this paper is analysis of a system which enables sound recognition. Developed sound recognition system consists of preliminary data processing, feature extraction and classification algorithms. There were applied eight various distance metrics. Investigations were carried out for direct current Machine because it produces characteristic sounds. It can be noticed that sound of faultless Dc Machine is different from sound of faulty Dc Machine, what can be used to determine the state of Dc Machine performance. Investigations of the sound recognition were carried out for faultless Machine and Machine with shorted rotor coils. The results of sound recognition are discussed in this paper.

  • an soc based virtual Dc Machine control for distributed storage systems in Dc microgrids
IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion, 2020
Co-Authors: Na Zhi, Ke Ding, Hui Zhang
    Abstract:

Distributed energy storage systems (DESSs) play an important role in maintaining voltage stability in Dc microgrids. In order to improve the inertia of Dc microgrid and balance the charge/discharge power and the state-of-charge (SOC) of each energy storage unit (ESU), an SOC-based virtual Dc Machine (VDcM) control strategy for DESSs in Dc microgrid is proposed in this paper. By adding SOC to the armature resistance, the improved virtual Machine algorithm can dynamically balance power and SOC simultaneously. In this article, the transient stability of Dc bus voltage is enhanced using the output inertia of VDcM, and the SOC differences between ESUs are rapidly reduced by introducing the average SOC of ESUs. Small-signal models of both each ESU-interfacing converter and DESS-inclusive Dc microgrid with proposed control method are established. The impact of VDcM parameters on voltage stability is analyzed. Finally, a test Dc microgrid is built to verify feasibility and effectiveness of the VDcM control strategy.

  • Speed Range Extension for Simplex Wave Winding Permanent-Magnet Brushless Dc Machine
    IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2013
    Co-Authors: Li Zhu, S.z. Jiang, Jingwei Jiang, Z. Q. Zhu, C.c. Chan
    Abstract:

A new speed range extension method for the simplex wave winding permanent-magnet (PM) brushless Dc Machine is proposed in this paper. The Machine is with PM excitation, electric commutation, and close-connected winding identical to the brushed Dc Machine (see Zhu , “A new simplex wave winding permanent-magnet brushless Dc Machine,” IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, vol. 47, no. 1, pp. 252-259, Jan. 2011). By properly controlling the status of power electronic switches, the number of coils being connected into the equivalent circuit can be reduced, and thus the speed range will be extended. For the prototype of 10-pole and 11-slot Machine, besides operating with all the 11 coils, the Machine can be controlled with only 8 or 6 coils operating for wider speed range. The experiments verify the new speed range extension method for simplex wave winding PM brushless Dc Machine.

  • A New Simplex Wave Winding Permanent-Magnet Brushless Dc Machine
    IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2011
    Co-Authors: Li Zhu, S.z. Jiang, Jingwei Jiang, Z. Q. Zhu, C.c. Chan
    Abstract:

A new simplex wave winding permanent-magnet (PM) brushless Dc Machine is proposed in this paper. Besides PM excitation and electric commutation, the Machine has close-connected winding identical to the brushed Dc Machine. By properly controlling the power electronic switch status, the current direction of coils under N or S pole is unchanged. Thus, the new Machine's operation principle is exactly as same as the brushed Dc Machine. Furthermore, as the adoption of PM and electric commutation, the new Machine can be designed with larger pole number and lower slot number per pole, which respectively leads to less iron yoke and shorter end winding. Therefore, the proposed new Machine not only keeps the characteristics of a brushed Dc Machine, but also improves the efficiency and power density. A 200 W, 10-pole, and 11-slot new Machine is designed, prototyped, and tested to verify the analysis.

  • Design and analysis of a new permanent magnet brushless Dc Machine
    IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2000
Co-Authors: Jinyun Gan, C.c. Chan, K. T. Chau, Yong Wang, Jingwei Jiang
    Abstract:

A new permanent magnet (PM) brushless Dc Machine with a unique feature of flux regulation is proposed in this paper. The originality is that the air-gap flux of the Machine is generated by both the PM excitation and the specially controlled stator current under the same PM pole. The Machine possesses advantageous characteristics of both the PM brushless Dc Machine and the Dc series Machine. The rotor configuration and principle of operation are so novel that the magnetic field distribution and performances of the Machine are analyzed by use of a time-stepping finite element method. The theoretical calculation is also verified by experimental measurement.

Archives of Metallurgy and Materials, 2012
    Co-Authors: Adam Glowacz, Zygfryd Glowacz
    Abstract:

Diagnostics of Dc Machine Based on Analysis of Acoustic Signals with Application of MFCC and Classifier Based on Words Technical diagnostics is concerned with the assessment of technical conditions of the Machine through the study of properties of Machine processes. Diagnostics is particularly important for factories and ironworks. In paper is presented method of diagnostics of imminent failure conditions of Dc Machine. This method is based on a study of acoustic signals generated by Dc Machine. System of sound recognition uses algorithms for data processing, such as Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficient and classifier based on words. Software to recognize the sounds of Dc Machine was implemented on PC computer. Studies were carried out for sounds of faultless Machine and Machine with shorted coils. The results confirm that the system can be useful for diagnostics of Dc and ac Machines used in metallurgy.
