It then presents the results of a study, conducted at a small liberal arts college, on the effectiveness of a faculty training program that was designed to encourage faculty to adopt a course management system in their classroom-based, undergraduate courses. The training program was based on an approach that considers those factors that influence the adoption rate of technology, specifically the course management system, Blackboard.

Virtual reality technology has developed rapidly; from walk-in CAVE-like virtual environments to head-mounted displays within a decade. In this paper, the development is studied through the lens of Diffusion of Innovation theory, which focuses not only on Innovation itself, but also on the social system. The development of virtual technology is studied by one case, which is cabin design in the mobile work machine industry. This design process has been especially suitable for using virtual reality technology.

Diffusion of Innovation embedding simulation into nursing curricula

Simulation can enhance learning and provides a stimulating environment for technologically proficient students. Yet, there remain a large number of nursing programs and faculty members that are resistant toward implementing simulation as a learning tool. This article provides details on the efforts to embed simulation in an undergraduate program that started with a few interested faculty at a large, multi-site nursing program. The Diffusion of Innovation theory was used to guide the expansion of simulation to other faculty groups. The techniques used to embed simulation into the undergraduate curriculum were directed by past research. This process led to a successful integration of simulation which could provide some innovative suggestions for other programs facing similar barriers.

Diffusion of Innovation Theory and Xbox Live Examining Minority Gamers’ Responses and Rate of Adoption to Changes in Xbox Live
Bulletin of Science Technology & Society, 2012Co-Authors: Kishonna L. GrayAbstract:This article examines the response of minority gamers as they adopt new Innovations in Xbox Live. Using Diffusion of Innovation theory, specific attention is given to gamers’ rate of adoption of the new Xbox Live environment, which was a recent update to the Xbox Live interface. By employing virtual ethnography, observations, and interviews reveal that gaming duration and gender are significant factors in identifying a gamer’s successful rate of adoption of the new Innovation. Female participants reveal that Xbox Live intentionally targets males as the default gamer and enact changes based on their needs. The research concludes with a plea to Xbox Live to acknowledge minority gamers such as women to incorporate their needs within the decision-making process of new Innovations.
