diffusion of Digital innovation in construction a case study of a uk engineering firm
Construction Management and Economics, 2015Co-Authors: Amna Shibeika, Chris HartyAbstract:The UK government is mandating the use of building information modelling (BIM) in large public projects by 2016. As a result, engineering firms are faced with challenges related to embedding new technologies and associated working practices for the Digital Delivery of major infrastructure projects. Diffusion of innovations theory is used to investigate how Digital innovations diffuse across complex firms. A contextualist approach is employed through an in-depth case study of a large, international engineering project-based firm. The analysis of the empirical data, which was collected over a four-year period of close interaction with the firm, reveals parallel paths of diffusion occurring across the firm, where both the innovation and the firm context were continually changing. The diffusion process is traced over three phases: centralization of technology management, standardization of Digital working practices, and globalization of Digital resources. The findings describe the diffusion of a Digital innovation as multiple and partial within a complex social system during times of change and organizational uncertainty, thereby contributing to diffusion of innovations studies in construction by showing a range of activities and dynamics of a non-linear diffusion process.

Diffusion of Digital innovation in a project-based firm: Case study of a UK engineering firm
Proceedings 30th Annual Association of Researchers in Construction Management Conference ARCOM 2014, 2014Co-Authors: Amna ShibeikaAbstract:Digital innovations are rapidly diffusing within the construction sector. With the UK government policy mandating building information modelling (BIM) by 2016, engineering firms are faced with challenges related to embedding new technologies and associated working practices for the Digital Delivery of major infrastructure projects. Drawing from diffusion of innovations theory, this research attempts to answer the question of: how Digital innovation diffuses in the firm? It adopts a contextualist approach through in-depth case study of a large and international engineering project-based firm. The analysis of the empirical data, which was collected over four years of close interaction with the firm, provides a narrative for the diffusion of the Digital innovation across the firm where both the innovation and the firm were in flux. The diffusion process has evolved through three main mechanisms: centralisation of technology management, standardisation of Digital working practices, and globalisation of Digital resources. This case has both theoretical and practical implications; it describes the diffusion of a Digital innovation in a complex social system. This extends diffusion of innovations studies in construction, and guide engineering firms in their efforts to adopt and implement new innovations.

translating evidence based treatment for Digital health Delivery a protocol for family based treatment for anorexia nervosa using telemedicine
The Journal of Eating Disorders, 2020Co-Authors: Auidorcid A Hambleton, Le D Grange, Jane Miskovicwheatley, Stephen Touyz, Michelle Cunich, Sarah MaguireAbstract:Family-based treatment (FBT) is an efficacious outpatient intervention for young people diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa (AN). To date, treatment to protocol has relied on standard face-to-face Delivery. Face-to-face therapy is subject to geographic, temporal and human factors, rendering it particularly susceptible to inequities and disruption. This has resulted in poorer service provision for rural and regional families, and recently a significant challenge to providing face-to-face services during the COVID-19 global pandemic. The present study examines whether FBT for AN can be successfully translated to a Digital Delivery platform to address these access issues. Forty young people aged 12 to 18 years who meet DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for AN, and live in a rural or regional setting, will along with their family be recruited to the study. Trained therapists will provide 18 sessions of FBT over 9 months via telemedicine to the home of the young person and their family. The analysis will examine treatment effectiveness, feasibility, acceptability, and cost-effectiveness. The study addresses the treatment needs of families not able to attend face-to-face clinical services for evidence-based treatment for eating disorders. This might be due to several barriers, including a lack of local services or long travel distances to services. There has been a recent and unprecedented demand for telemedicine to facilitate the continuity of care during COVID-19 despite geographical circumstances. If delivering treatment in this modality is clinically and economically effective and feasible, it will facilitate access to potentially lifesaving, evidence-based treatments for families formerly unable to access such care and provide evidence for the continuity of services when and where face-to-face treatment is not feasible.

The speed with which the virus spread in the country and the sanitary restriction measures implied great challenges for the country's economy; An IPSOS study revealed that consumers, after overcoming the effects of Covid-19, will be less impulsive and will opt for thrifty alternatives. This research seeks to make public the incidence of Digital Delivery applications in the consumption of fast foods during the first half of 2020, in order that businesses that plan to use Delivery applications can take advantage of tools for developing promotional strategies and targeting more cautious consumers in their purchase process. Through the survey, the opinions of 384 economically active people, men and women with ages from 16 years and older, residents in Guayaquil and with an affinity to acquire fast food through Delivery applications, were considered. As well as the opinions of four administrators of establishments that met the aforementioned characteristics. The current research found that mobility restrictions and changes in the state of mind as a consequence of confinement due to the pandemic, influenced the consumption patterns of highly processed foods, and led to an increase in the flow of purchase-sale transactions through these platforms in relation to other years, for consumers as well as for sellers

2020Co-Authors: Fernández-trujillo Moares, Francisco JoséAbstract:Digital platforms have appeared and developed in a framework of economic crisis that has led to the deepening of various forms of inequality, precariousness, deterioration of living conditions for large sections of the population. These platforms have also generated far-reaching changes in economies. This would have meant that its expansion responds to a series of characteristics in accordance with that situation. Attending to the great expansion of Digital economies and platform capitalism, this text intends to make an approximation to some of the explanatory keys of the elements of a specific type of Digital platforms: food Delivery platforms. Here some of the issues that have arisen since their greatest controversy and discussion is analyzed: the moment of emergency, innovation, flexibility at work or their role in the labour market. To this end, some of the discourses presented by the Digital Delivery platforms themselves and the discourses of the riders of these platforms are analyzed.
