    Abstract:

    Developed-fruit was formed by pollination. One of pollination method could be composed using pollinator beetle such as Elaeidobiuskamerunicus. The objective of this research was to study the effective of population E. kamerunicus to pollinate the palm oil flowers. It was arrange by Randomized Block Design with four treatments of bug (0, 100, 200 dan 300 adult) and six replication. The results showed that introduction of 200 adults is the most effective population in terms of fruit-bunch average weight (9.858 kg) and fruitlet average weight (7.146 kg). On the other hand, 100 adults is the most effective population amount in terms of fruitset(56.90 %). Buah jadi terbentuk oleh adanya penyerbukan.Elaeidobius kamerunicus merupakan salah satu serangga yang efektif dalam menyerbuk kelapa sawit.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jumlah populasi serangga penyerbuk kelapa sawit yang efektif dalam menyerbuk bunga kelapa sawit.Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok dengan empat perlakuan yaitu J0 (0 ekor), J1 (100 ekor), J2 (200 ekor), J3 (300 ekor) dan tiap perlakuan terdiri dari enam ulangan.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan inokulasi 200 ekor Serangga Penyerbuk kelapa Sawit (SPKS)efektif dalam menyerbuk bunga sehinga diperoleh rataan tertinggi untuk berat tandan (9,858 kg) dan berat brondolan (7,146 kg). Sedangkan inokulasi 100 ekor SPKS merupakan perlakuan yang efektif menghasilkan nilai fruit settertinggi (56,90 %).

    Abstract:

    Elaeidobius kamerunicus is an effective pollinator weevil on oil palm. This reseach was to study the influence of several insecticides on population of E. kamerunicus. This research was conducted at the Indonesian Oil Palm Research Institute (IOPRI) Plantation unit Kalianta Riau from August to September 2016 used Randomized Group Design (RGD) non factorial with 4 kind of active ingredients insecticides, i.e : Delthametrin, Acefat, Lambda Cyhalotrin, and Bacillus thuringiensis with five replications. The results showed that all of insecticide could reduce the population of E. kamerunicus. Population of E. kamerunicus control was higher (1666 adults) than using insecticide. Insecticides that have an effect on decreasing populations of E. kamerunicus are Delthametrin (1030 adults), Asefat (1209 adults), Lambda Cyhalotrin (1070 adults). E. kamerunicus at the female flowers before treatment (5966 adults) than after treatmen (3987 adults). The appearance of new beetle was not much different for all treatments, its reduced on the non-treated plants (162 insects) compared to post treated plants with active ingredients (108 insects), Asefat (163 insects), Lambda Cyhalotrin (125 insects), dan Bacillus thuringiensis (122 insects).   Elaeidobius kamerunicus merupakan kumbang penyerbuk paling efektif pada tanaman kelapa sawit. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh berbagai insektisida terhadap populasi E. kamerunicus. Penelitian ini telah dilaksanakan di kebun kelapa sawit Pusat Penelitian Kelapa Sawit (PPKS) unit Kalianta Provinsi Riau pada bulan Agustus sampai September 2016 menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) non faktorial dengan empat jenis bahan aktif sebagai perlakuan yaitu: Delthametrin, Asefat, Lambda Cyhalotrin, dan Bacillus thuringiensis dengan lima ulangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan semua bahan aktif insektisida dapat menurunkan populasi E. kamerunicus di lapangan. Penurunan populasi ditunjukkan dari indikator populasi E. kamerunicus pada bunga jantan yang tidak diaplikasi insektisida lebih tinggi (1666 ekor) dibanding populasi E. kamerunicus pada bunga jantan yang diaplikasi insektisida. Insektisida yang paling berpengaruh dalam menurunkan populasi E. kamerunicus adalah insektisida berbahan aktif Delthametrin (1030 ekor), Asefat (1209 ekor), Lambda Cyhalotrin (1070 ekor). Hasil yang sama ditunjukkan pada E. kamerunicus pada bunga betina sebelum aplikasi lebih tinggi (5966 ekor) dibanding setelah aplikasi (3987 ekor). Kemunculan kumbang baru tidak jauh berbeda untuk semua perlakuan, yaitu terjadi penurunan E. kamerunicus pada tanaman yang tidak ada aplikasi insektisida (162 ekor) dibanding yang diaplikasikan insektisida berbahan aktif Delthametrin (108 ekor), Asefat (163 ekor), Lambda Cyhalotrin (125 ekor), dan Bacillus thuringiensis (122 ekor).

    Abstract:

    The objective of this research was to study the influence of herbicides and time of trapping after application on population of weevil Elaeidobius kamerunicus. This research was conducted at OilPalm Plantation Kalianta, Riau and at Laboratory of Indonesian Oil Palm Research Institute (IOPRI), using method of Factorial Randomized Group Design with 2 factors, the first was herbicides (without herbicide, methyl metsulfuron 100 gr/ha, paracuat 400 cc/ha, glyfosat 400 cc/ha) and the second factor is time of traps (2 hours after applications, 48 hours after application and 72 hours after application) with three replications.The results at field showed that population of weevil E. kamerunicushigher in treatment without herbicide compared to treatment using herbicide at male flower was 334 adults/spicelet and female flower was 689 adults/bunch. Treatment 72 hours after applications traping at male flower on population of weevilE. kamerunicus was 282 adults/spicelet. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari dampak dari penggunaan herbisida terhadap populasi kumbang Elaedobius kamerunicus. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di PPKS Marihat kebun Kalianta, Propinsi Riau dan di Laboratorium PPKS Marihat dengan menggunakan metode Rancangan Acak Kelompok faktorial dengan 2 faktor, yaitu faktor 1 adalah jenis herbisida (tanpa herbisida, metil metsulfuron 100 gram/ha, parakuat 400 cc/ha, glifosat 400 cc/ha) dan faktor 2 adalah waktu pemasangan perangkap (2 jam, 48 jam, 72 jam setelah aplikasi) dengan tiga ulangan. Hasil penelitian di lapangan menunjukkan bahwa populasi kumbang E. kamerunicus lebih tinggi pada perlakuan tanpa herbisida dibandingkan dengan perlakuan dengan herbisida yaitu jantan sebesar 334 ekor/spikelet dan pada bunga betina sebesar 689 ekor/tandan. Perlakuan 72 jam setelah aplikasi pemasangan perangkap pada bunga jantan terhadap populasi kumbang E. kamerunicus yaitu sebanyak 282 ekor/spikelet.

    Abstract:

    Oil palm is one of the commodity crop that has an important role in the economy in Indonesia. The main problems encountered are low productivity caused by the decline in population of oil palm pollinating insects Elaeidobius kamerunicus Faust. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of systemic insecticides on E. Kamerunicus palm oil plantations in PTPN IV Marihat, Pematang Siantar. This research was conducted at Indonesian Oil Palm Research Institute (IOPRI), Pematang Siantar collaboration with PTPN IV. The method was factorial randomized block designwith two factors and three replications. The first factor was type of active ingredient ( asefat dimehipo, klorantraniliprol), the second factor was dose insecticide (5 gr, 10 gr, 20 gr) and (7.5 ml, 5 ml, 10 ml). The parameters were observed consisting are total population of E. kamerunicus per hectare and sex ratio. The results showed that the total decrease in the population of E. kamerunicus90 days after application was 18% of the inifial population. Sex ratio of E. kamerunicus was 1:1.5. Kelapa sawit merupakan salah satu komoditi hasil perkebunan yang memiliki peran penting dalam perekonomian di Indonesia. Permasalahan utama yang dihadapi adalah rendahnya produktivitas yang disebabkan penurunan populasi serangga penyerbuk kelapa sawit E. kamerunicus. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dampak penggunaan insektisida sistemik terhadap perkembangan serangga penyerbuk kelapa sawit E. kamerunicus diperkebunan kelapa sawit PTPN IV Marihat, Pematang Siantar. Penelitian dilakukan di Pusat Penelitian Kelapa Sawit (PPKS) Marihat, Pematang Siantar bekerjasama dengan PTPN IV. Metode yang digunakan rancangan acak kelompok faktorial yang terdiri dari 2 faktor dan 3 ulangan. Faktor pertama jenis bahan aktif (asefat, dimehipo, klorantraniliprol) sedangkan faktor kedua dosis insektisida (5 gr, 10 gr, 20 gr) dan (5 ml, 7,5 ml, 10 ml). Parameter yang diamati terdiri dari jumlah populasi E. kamerunicus per hektar dan nisbah kelamin. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan total penurunan populasi E. kamerunicus setelah 90 hari aplikasi sebesar 18 % dari populasi awal. Nisbah kelamin jantan dan betina E. kamerunicus 1 : 1,5.

    Abstract:

    The objective of the research was to study biology of the Elaeidobius kamerunicus (Coleoptera:Curculionidae) on the oil palm plants in the highlands areas. The research was conducted at PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV Bah Birung Ulu and Laboratory of Plant Pest and Disease Indonesian Oil Palm Research Institute (PPKS) Marihat from November 2016 to April 2017. It was done using by descriptive method. The results showed that the life cycle of E. kamerunicus was 18.6 ± 3.05 days, egg phase, 2.33 ± 0.57 days, the first instar larvae, 2 ± 1.73 days, the second instar larvae, 5 ± 1 days, and the third instar larvae, 2.66 ± 1.15days and the pupa 4.66 ± 0.57 days. Age of male, 10.72 ± 1.4 days faster than female 14.44 ±1.35 days. Preoviposition period was 2 ± 0 days, while oviposition 9.84 ± 0.96 days, and post oviposition 4 ± 0.89 days. The number of eggs laid by a female during her lifetime was 20.4 ± 2.6.   Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui biologi serangga penyerbuk Elaeidobius kamerunicus (Coleoptera : Curculionidae) pada tanaman kelapa sawit di daerah dataran tinggi. Penelitian dilaksanakan di perkebunan kelapa sawit PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV Bah Birung Ulu dan Laboratorium Hama dan Penyakit Tanaman Pusat Penelitian Kelapa Sawit (PPKS) Marihat mulai bulan November 2016 sampai April 2017. Penelitian dilaksanakan dengan metode deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siklus hidup E. kamerunicus yaitu 18,6 ± 3,05 hari,fase telur 2,33 ± 0,57 hari, fase larva instar pertama 2 ± 1,73 hari, fase larva instar kedua 5 ± 1 hari, fase larva instar ketiga 2,66 ± 1,15 hari dan fase pupa 4,66 ± 0,57 hari. Umur imago jantan (10,72 ± 1,4 hari) lebih cepat dari pada imago betina (14,44 ±1,35 hari). Masa prapeneluran yaitu 2 ± 0 hari, masa peneluran 9,84 ± 0,96 hari, masa pasca peneluran 4 ± 0,89 hari. Satu ekor betina semasa hidupnya meletakkan 20,4 ± 2,6 butir telur.

    Abstract:

    The African oil palm weevil, Elaeidobius kamerunicus is an effective pollinator of oil palm. Each individual palm produces exclusively male or female inflorescence so that the success of pollination depends on the ability of the pollinator to transfer pollen from male to female flowers. The objective of this research was to study the amount of pollen carried by E. kamerunicus between male and female inflorescences (pollen load) and the amount of pollen carried on each part of the weevil’s body (pollen distribution). Fifty each of male and female  E. kamerunicus individuals were collected from male and female flowers on trees in 3 locations: Siantar (North Sumatra), Dramaga (West Java), and Morowali (Central Sulawesi). Data on pollen load and pollen distribution on the weevil’s body were analyzed using ImageJ software. Results show that E. kamerunicus individuals collected more pollen from male flowers than from female flowers. In addition, male insects carried more pollen on their bodies than female insects. Pollen distribution on weevil body parts was highest on the elytra, followed by the thorax, abdomen, legs, and head respectively.

Oil palm pollinating weevil Elaeidobius kamerunicus is a very important insect pollinator in oil palm plantation. However, there is still lack of information about molecular identification and population genetic study in this species. The purpose of this study was to explore the effectiveness of oil palm pollinating weevil identification using mitochondrial DNA of COI gene and to assess its genetic variation between different locations and countries. We sequenced the DNA barcode of 36 individuals of this species using the mtDNA Cytochrome Oxidase I (COI) gene to explore their genetic variation, identity and phylogenetic relationship. The COI gene sequences generated from this study were successful in identifying E. kamerunicus. Phylogenetic analysis also revealed 3 well-supported monophyletic haplogroups of E. kamerunicus population. In addition, genetic differentiation analysis revealed that most populations from Indonesia were different from Malaysian and Cameroonian populations indicating that there was a genetic variation between the population samples from these countries. The overall E. kamerunicus used in this study were geographically structured in two regions; outside Indonesia region (Cameroon and Malaysia) and Indonesia region. These results demonstrate the feasibility of using COI gene sequence for molecular identification and population genetic study of E. kamerunicus species.

    Insects visit flowers not only to forage for nectar or pollen but also to search for hosts or prey, and to look for suitable habitats for breeding sites. In oil palm flowers, it has been documented that not all flower-visiting insects are pollinators, but some insects are recognized as predators, parasitoids or saprophages, which may affect the abundance and persistence of the weevil pollinating oil palm, Elaeidobius kamerunicus. We studied the community of oil palm flower-visiting insects and investigated the covariation between the abundance E. kamerunicus and that of other dominant species. Ecological research was conducted in oil palm plantations with different tree ages in Central Borneo. Our results found that tree age and flower type of oil palm did not influence the abundance and species richness of flower-visiting insects, but significantly affected their species composition. There was a significant positive relationship between the abundance of E. kamerunicus and the fly Scaptodrosophila sp, indicating that these species covariate in oil palm flowers. These findings suggest that understanding the covariation between E. kamerunicus and Scaptodrosophila sp may help develop the conservation strategies for E. kamerunicus to support the sustainable production of oil palm.

    Elaeidobius kamerunicus Faust is an oil palm pollinator insect that lives on the male inflorescence and visits female inflorescence to pollinate due to attracted by its volatile compound. The number of fruit sets of oil palm relates to the population of E. kamerunicus on a plantation. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of age of oil palm on the population of E. kamerunicus. Field research was conducted in oil palm plantations that located in Pangkalan Lada, Kotawaringin Barat District, in Central Kalimantan. The research method was by measurement of E. camerunicus population on male inflorescences and set up the sticky trap on female inflorescences. Plot with size 7000 m 2 (100 trees) was selected on several ages of oil palm i.e. 6, 10 and 16 years. Each plot, the number of male and female inflorescences was counted and some inflorescences were chosen for measurement of E. camerunicus population that was conducted monthly for three months of observation. The results showed that the age of the oil palm affected the population of E. kamerunicus in male inflorescences but not in female inflorescences. The older age of oil palm, the population of E. kamerunicus in male flowers was increasing. The sex ratio of E. kamerunicus found in male and female inflorescences of oil palms tend to female bias. Based on the comparison of E. kamerunicus population between male and female inflorescences on each plot, it was found that visitation value of E. kamerunicus was highest in the young oil palm. In conclusion, increasing age of oil palm trees affected on increasing of E. kamerunicus population in male inflorescences, but visitation value on female inflorescences prone to decline.

    Abstract:

    Elaeidobius kamerunicus Faust is an oil palm pollinator insect that lives on the male inflorescence and visits female inflorescence to pollinate due to attracted by its volatile compound. The number of fruit sets of oil palm relates to the population of E. kamerunicus on a plantation. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of age of oil palm on the population of E. kamerunicus. Field research was conducted in oil palm plantations that located in Pangkalan Lada, Kotawaringin Barat District, in Central Kalimantan. The research method was by measurement of E. camerunicus population on male inflorescences and set up the sticky trap on female inflorescences. Plot with size 7000 m 2 (100 trees) was selected on several ages of oil palm i.e. 6, 10 and 16 years. Each plot, the number of male and female inflorescences was counted and some inflorescences were chosen for measurement of E. camerunicus population that was conducted monthly for three months of observation. The results showed that the age of the oil palm affected the population of E. kamerunicus in male inflorescences but not in female inflorescences. The older age of oil palm, the population of E. kamerunicus in male flowers was increasing. The sex ratio of E. kamerunicus found in male and female inflorescences of oil palms tend to female bias. Based on the comparison of E. kamerunicus population between male and female inflorescences on each plot, it was found that visitation value of E. kamerunicus was highest in the young oil palm. In conclusion, increasing age of oil palm trees affected on increasing of E. kamerunicus population in male inflorescences, but visitation value on female inflorescences prone to decline.

    Abstract:

    Pulau Punjung adalah kecamatan yang diprioritaskan untuk pengembangan komoditas kelapa sawit di Kabupaten Dharmasraya. Produksi kelapa sawit rakyat yang rendah disebabkan oleh proses penyerbukan yang tidak optimal sehingga terbentuk buah partenokarpi dengan fruit set rendah. Selama ini, penyerbukan pada tanaman kelapa sawit dibantu oleh serangga polinator Elaeidobius kamerunicus Faust. Akan tetapi, pada perkebunan kelapa sawit rakyat, populasi serangga tersebut rendah. Solusi untuk permasalahan tersebut adalah aplikasi teknologi hatch & carry serangga polinator E. kamerunicus . Teknologi tersebut diperkenalkan kepada mitra, yakni petani kelapa sawit rakyat yang tergabung dalam kelompok tani budi daya. Metode pendekatan yang digunakan adalah penyuluhan, pelatihan, demplot, bantuan alat berupa paket teknologi hatch & carry , serta pendampingan. Teknologi hatch & carry dapat menyelesaikan permasalahan yang dihadapi kelompok tani mitra. Hal itu ditandai dengan meningkatnya produksi TBS setelah metode tersebut diaplikasikan selama empat bulan. Keberhasilan aplikasi teknologi tersebut berkat meningkatnya pengetahuan dan keterampilan petani mitra setelah mengikuti rangkaian kegiatan pengabdian. Pada akhir kegiatan, kelompok tani mitra diberi perangkat teknologi hatch & carry yang terpasang di lahan dan bisa dioperasikan secara mandiri.

    Abstract Kuliah Kerja Nyata Pemberdayaan dan Pembelajaran Masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan  pengetahuan dan keterampilan Kelompok tani Budidaya melalui penyuluhan dan demplot tentang penerapan teknologi hatch and carry kumbang Elaeidobius kamerunicus pada kawasan kebun kelapa sawit yang akan berproduksi di Kenagarian Sungai Dareh Kecamatan Pulau Punjung Kabupaten Dharmasraya. Pada kegiatan ini, petani dilatih untuk melakukan penangkaran Elaeidobius kamerunicus agar jumlah populasi kumbang ini mencukupi untuk membantu proses penyerbukan kelapa sawit. Selain itu, petani juga dilatih untuk mampu mengumpulkan polen kelapa sawit yang akan disemprotkan pada tubuh kumbang dikandang penangkaran sebelum dilepaskan kelahan. Hasil dari kegiatan ini Jumlah kumbang Elaeidobius kamerunicus meningkat dari 506 ekor/Ha menjadi 26.270 ekor/Ha dan petani mampu meningkatkan fruit set tandan buah kelapa sawit, sehingga produksi kelapa sawit meningkat sebanyak 30 %. Selain itu, kelompok tani Budidaya juga mampu menghasilkan produk berupa poleh kelapa sawit yang bisa dipasarkan ke kelompok tani lainnya. Hal ini dapat membantu meningkatkan kesejahteraan petani kelapa sawit yang baru menghasilkan. Respon positif tidak hanya dari kelompok tani mitra, akan tetapi juga dari kelompok tani sekitar yang juga mingin menerapkan teknologi ini pada lahan kebun mereka. Setelah kegiatan ini dilakukan diharapkan mitra dapat menerapkan secara terus menerus dan dapat pula menyebarluaskan teknologi yang sudah diterima untuk diterapkan ke kelompok tani/petani lainnya di kenagarian tersebut dan kenagarian lainnya.
