Storage temperature significantly affected the protein, fat, fiber, ash and carbohydrate content of tiger nuts. Refrigeration of tiger nuts resulted in higher activities of α-amylase and lipase, whilst ambient or Elevated Storage showed higher sugar content of tiger nuts. Fermentation of tiger nut milk that was prepared from ambient-stored tiger nuts showed an increased rate of pH reduction and, hence, a significantly lower fermentation time. Fermented tiger nut milk from freshly harvested tiger nuts was more frequently described as grassy and raw. Storage of tiger nuts at ambient or Elevated temperature led to lactic fermented tiger nut milk with sweet and sour attributes, and can be significant for improving the sensory quality.

The main objective of this study was to examine effects of individual components on the antimicrobial activity, physico-chemical properties, aerosolization and dissolution of powder aerosol formulations when three synergistic drugs were co-spray dried. A ternary dry powder formulation consisting of meropenem (75.5 %w/w), colistin (15.1 %w/w) and rifampicin (9.4 %w/w) at the selected ratio was produced by spray drying. The ternary formulation was characterized for in-vitro antibacterial activity, physico-chemical properties, surface composition, aerosol performance and dissolution. All of the formulations demonstrated excellent aerosolization behavior achieving a fine particle fraction of >70%, which was substantially higher than those for the Meropenem-SD and Colistin-Meropenem formulations. The results indicated that rifampicin controlled the surface morphology of the ternary and binary combination formulations resulting in the formation of highly corrugated particles. Advanced characterization of surface composition by XPS supported the hypothesis that rifampicin was enriched on the surface of the combination powder formulations. All spray-dried formulations were amorphous and absorbed substantial amount of water at the Elevated humidity. Storage at the Elevated humidity caused a substantial decline in aerosolization performance for the Meropenem-SD and Colistin-Meropenem, which was attributed to increased inter-particulate capillary forces or particle fusion. In contrast, the ternary combination and binary Meropenem-Rifampicin formulations showed no change in aerosol performance at the Elevated Storage humidity conditions; attributable to the enriched hydrophobicity of rifampicin on the particle surface that acted as a barrier against moisture condensation and particle fusion. Interestingly, in the ternary formulation rifampicin enrichment on the surface did not interfere with the dissolution of other two components (i.e. meropenem and colistin). Our study provides an insight on the impact of each component on the performance of co-spray dried combinational formulations.

Fruit stored under DCA–RQ 2.0 accumulated the highest amounts of anaerobic metabolites (acetaldehyde, ethanol and ethyl acetate), regardless of Storage temperature and timing of Storage outturn evaluation, but it did not result in higher electrolyte leakage. Flesh breakdown, core breakdown and cavity formation were reduced at 3 °C. Storage at 3 °C combined with DCA maintained higher flesh firmness after 8.0 months Storage plus 7d shelf-life. ‘Nicoter’ apples can be stored at 3 °C using a DCA system, based either on CF or on RQ, to save electrical energy.

KhouryAbstract:Abstract Assessment of bladder Storage function requires an accurate measure of bladder capacity and pressure. Pressure specific bladder volume is the volume that a bladder can accommodate at a specified pressure. A total of 21 consecutive children with neurogenic bladders who were candidates for bladder augmentation based on standard clinical criteria (upper urinary tract deterioration, incontinence and infection) was studied to determine the efficacy of pressure specific bladder volume as a measure of bladder dysfunction. Urodynamic indexes were compared to previously established nomograms. All 21 patients had bladder volumes at pressures of 30 cm. water or less, which decreased below the 5th percentile as determined by the nomogram. In 7 patients (33%) normal total bladder capacity was achieved at the expense of Elevated Storage pressures. Pressure specific bladder volume provides a better measure of bladder Storage function than total bladder capacity because it relates volume to intravesical pressure, does not rely on a subjective end point to bladder filling, and is objective and reproducible.
