    Abstract:

    Elevator Pitch about Seamless learning for the Board of the Open University of the Netherlands. People increasingly learn in different (physical and social) settings with less effort than 50 years ago, as both technological as well as physical infrastructures allow them to do so. Learners easily move from one ‘place’ to another and create their own learning ‘places’, e.g. by using mobile devices and cloud-technology. Learners’ mobility and control on what, when, where (Chan et al., 2006) and how they want to learn is still increasing every day, allowing them to choose from a wide variety of formal (e.g. schools, universities) as well as non-formal (e.g. museums, ‘on the job’, MOOC’s) learning experiences. Seamless Learning (Wong, Milrad, & Specht, 2015) looks at the ‘gaps’ that currently exist between these varied learning settings and how learning across these different settings can be fostered by making transitions as smooth as possible (Looi et al., 2010) with innovative technology and pedagogy, in order to make learning more meaningful, transferable, effective, continuous and fun for learners.

    Abstract:

    In our pursue to study effective real-time feedback in Technology Enhanced Learning, we developed the Presentation Trainer, a tool designed to support the practice of nonverbal communication skills for public speaking. The tool tracks the user's voice and body to analyze her performance, and selects the type of real-time feedback to be presented. This paper describes an empirical study where we tested the effects of the Presentation Trainer's feedback on learners who used the tool while practicing for an Elevator-Pitch. Results from this study reveal that the feedback has a significant effect on the learners' motivation, confidence, self-awareness, and performance.

    This paper reports on the main piloting of the Start Up EU project (http://startup-eu.net/). Start Up EU targets secondary schools and simulates the process of starting up a high tech company. The project developed a series of mini-games, a Web2.0 platform and a collaborative competition for students, between 14 and 18 years of age. 243 students participated in the competition, completing a series of 8 tasks, starting from a business idea to a product and creating an Elevator Pitch. Pre-competition and post-competition questionnaires were collected and the results on participants' perception of the learning experience regarding entrepreneurship using serious games and Web 2.0 technologies, presented here.

    This paper reports on the main piloting of the StartUp_EU (http://www.startup.odl.org/) Lifelong Learning European Project. StartUp_EU aimed at simulating the excitement and creative innovation of starting up new company. The project developed a series of serious mini-games, an encompassing Web2.0 platform based on ILIAS Learning Content Management System (LCMS) and a collaborative competition for secondary school students, between 14 and 18 years of age, to inspire high tech entrepreneurship. 243 students participated in a competition completing a series of 8 tasks simulating the process of arriving at an idea for a business to a real product and creating an Elevator Pitch. Pre-competition and post-competition questionnaires were collected. The remainder of the paper presents the results of the pre-and post- questionnaires regarding participants' perception of the learning experience regarding entrepreneurship using serious games and Web 2.0.
