Different applications and systems that cover the overall range of the industrial infrastructure from the field to the Enterprise Level need to interoperate. This quest is driven by the Enterprise need for greater flexibility and for the wider possible integration of the Enterprise systems. This paper presents a distributed system architecture that utilizes dominant state-of-the-art standard technologies, such as workflows, ontologies, and web services, in order to address the above quest in an efficient way.

The model is based on set theory and represented using an Entity-Relationship diagram. Components of the model include high Level business objectives and their criticality, business requirements and their utilization, resources and their characterization as protector or protected resources, controls and their effectiveness, threats, vulnerabilities, potential exploits, and the resulting impact. An example representation of a formal relationship is provided. The model provides a canonical representation of Enterprise security, enables automation and hence rigorous analysis of the security cost and effectiveness, provides for completeness and consistency checking, and offers a means for what-if as well as comparative analysis of security readiness.

The Methodology, Platform and Solution for Service-Oriented Enterprise

In practice the adoption of SOA at Enterprise Level is a long-term and complex transformation process. The research on how to extend SOA into an organizational context is still rare. In this paper, model-driven development methodology and platform is presented to handle the complexity of transforming an Enterprise into a Service-Oriented Enterprise (SOE). The reference architecture and implementation guide for SOE is described in the methodology. The model-driven platform provides the integrated development and operational environment for SOE. Based on the platform, a total solution for SOE is given which can implement on-demand business.

As the chemical engineering community is collecting more data (volume) from different sources (variety), this journey becomes more challenging in terms of using the right data and the right tools (analytics) to make the right decisions in real time (velocity). This article highlights recent big data advancements in five industries, including chemicals, energy, semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, and food, and then discusses technical, platform, and culture challenges. To reach the next milestone in multiplying successes to the Enterprise Level, government, academia, and industry need to collaboratively focus on workforce development and innovation.
